A Demon Lord’s Tale: Dungeons, Monster Girls, and Heartwarming Bliss

Chapter 568.2

Chapter 568.2

“Well, it’s even more lively since Riou and Sakuya were born! Oh, Riou is Shii’s younger sister and Sakuya’s older sister! Riou is a normal girl, unlike Sakuya, so Shii has to protect her! Sakuya protects her too, though!”

[I see… It’s a good family, Sakuya.] (Skeleton)

“Aww, abuuu” (Sakuya)

Although the skeleton had no eyes, Sakuya seemed happy to receive the gaze from the skeleton’s eye sockets.

“Ah, Sakuya, it looks like you’ve grown fond of Uncle Mukuro! This child is really into observing people! It appears he had fun watching Uncle Mukuro!” (Shii)

[Kukaka, do you like these old bones? The last person to say that to me was my master.] (Skeleton)

“Did Uncle Mukuro have a master as well?” (Shii)

[Yeah. I was originally living in the wild, but one day I fought my master and lost. I thought I was going to be killed, but instead my master told me to live with him.] (Skeleton)

“Wow…! He seems like a really cool guy!” (Shii)

[Yes, he was a great master, full of love and wit. Even now, I can easily remember him.] (Skeleton)

With a happy expression on its face, it then muttered, changing its voice to something a little more serious.

[…Is this child a guide?] (Skeleton)

“What’s a guide?” (Shii)

The skeleton turned its gaze from the two of them to the garden.

[Shii yo. What do you see here?]

“It’s a beautiful garden!” (Shii)

[Houh, is that so? But it was more beautiful than that before.]

“Really?” (Shii)

[Yes. I am the watchdog of this place. I have been protecting this place at the behest of my master. But look at the cracked paving stones, the moss growing on them, the sculptures that are starting to lose their details, the plants that are slowly dying… If I were perfect, this wouldn’t have happened.] (Skeleton)

After looking closely, Shii did notice some parts of the garden that weren’t well-maintained.

At first glance, one wouldn’t notice it. Everyone would say that it was a beautiful garden with a sense of tranquility.

However, if you looked at each part in detail, you could see that the passage of many years was engraved there.

There were parts that have weathered and decayed.

[Originally, I thought that I would be able to protect this place even if all the flesh was scraped off and only the bones remained. The traces of the past are no longer visible, and even though I have become something left behind from the past, I continue to cling to my duty.] (Skeleton) ꭆ

The skeleton of the monster looked into the distance.

“…Uncle Mukuro really likes this place, doesn’t he?” (Shii)

[More than anything… more than my own life…]  (Skeleton)

The emotion that came through in his voice…

Was it self-deprecation for continuing to cling to something even though it had already become a being that could not be called a living thing?

Or was it a sense of pathos for the garden that had decayed along with its flesh?

[But, is it really time to end it all?] (Skeleton)

With that, the beast’s skeleton rose from its sitting position.

[Alright, it’s not interesting just to just stare at a garden. Come with me, and I’ll show you around.] (Skeleton)

“Yes, please!” (Shii)

Shii pushed Sakuya’s stroller and started walking through the garden, following the beast’s skeleton.
