Chapter 600.2
Chapter 600.2
"–Yuki-san, Yuki-san, are you there?" (Layla)
"Oh, what's up, Layla?" (Yuki)
As I was taking care of Sakuya, Layla, who had been smiling recently and was still smiling now, came over to me.
"Master is calling for you." (Layla)
"That means…" (Yuki)
"Yes. The prototype is complete." (Layla)
◇◇◇
"You're here, Demon Lord. Okay, try this on." (Eldogalia)
What was there was a piece of armor that was patched together from scraps.
The armor didn't have decorations, and there didn't seem to be any waste in the design. It was made from whatever was available. There were some parts that reminded me of an SF Armadillo, but even so, the device was shaped to function as armor.
Armor… Come to think of it, this might be the first time I'd ever worn armor in this world.
I'd always hated wearing armor because it made it difficult to move.
"Wow, it's heavy… I can manage this, but the others might not be able to move properly." (Yuki)
I tried putting it on with Layla's help, but it was quite heavy.
I didn't want to fight wearing this… and though I was sure that I could use this, it would still reduce my mobility by 20%.
"I'm still thinking about that, but first, I need to see if the armor is effective or not." (Eldogalia)
"I truly hope it works. –Okay, then let's try it out." (Yuki)
And so, following the passage that I was now used to, I descended into the Underground world again with Enne.
Everyone else followed quite far behind, and I, who was wearing the armor, entered the area that was within the golem's security net.
Then, I knew that they had detected me, as several SF Armadillos appeared, but–
"…Oh." (Yuki)
I wasn't attacked.
They didn't react to my presence, and instead moved around restlessly like some kind of cleaning robot, searching for the enemy.
I see… It would be like me detecting an enemy on my dungeon map but Rir, who was responsible for eliminating the intruder in the said area, couldn't find the enemy since he did not have the map function like me.
This situation would be similar to that.
Though unlike the situation here, members of my dungeon were quite resourceful – or rather, Rir could use the [Map] function, so under his command, they would be able to identify intruders, but compared to them, the golems here didn't have that kind of flexibility.
Interesting… Another weakness of the golems had been revealed.
[…You seem to have become invisible.] (Enne)
"Right. This armor appears to be effective but the weight is still a problem." (Yuki)
[…The engineers are outstanding. I'm sure they'll do something about it.] (Enne)
"…You're right. This is something they should think about. Above all, Layla is very motivated, so I'll also provide whatever help I can." (Yuki)
When I returned and told everyone about the results, they were delighted that we had made solid progress, and then it was followed by days of adjustments on the armor.
It seemed that the current system they created was using the magic power residing in the armor to trick the golems into thinking that the one wearing the armor was an ally, so for the next phase, they were going to check how much they could shave off the armor without causing a problem in the tricking the golems.
I see, so that was why it was so chunky and obviously large to begin with.
I put on new prototypes and entered the Underground world again and again, testing the performance of the scrap armor, which was getting lighter and lighter like a game of chicken.
Overall, it was about half the weight of the original armor. It was still a bit heavy, but just about within the acceptable range. It seemed they would also cast magic to make it even more lighter.
Soon enough, the same armor was prepared for the members of the survey team, and supplies were gathered.
–The full-scale conquest of Velmore Forest Ruins began.
