Chapter 2096: General Robert
Chapter 2096: General Robert
The two Gnomes were the first to arrive, and when they saw only Grey present, they looked around in curiosity in search of the Ninth stage Sovereign Necromancer. They were about to question Grey when the general arrived.
“Impressive, it seems I underestimated your capabilities.” The general commented as he arrived. When he lost track of Grey from inside the Mayor’s manor, he rushed out in fear of him getting killed. Despite wanting to test Grey’s strength, he did not really want him to face any harm. He was just curious as to why Lucas Dawson would send a single Ninth stage Sovereign over when it was clearly stated in the report that they needed at least three new Ninth stage Sovereigns.
As he rushed to this place, he sensed the fast approaching aura of the two Peak Gnomes which made him relieved since it meant the duo also had no idea what was happening. Reaching here only to find out that Grey had dealt with a Ninth stage Sovereign and his puppet under such a short time was testament of Grey’s great strength.
“Where is the Necromancer, boy?” One of the two Peak Sovereign Gnomes asked. Of the two Gnomes, one was dressed in purple attire while the other had emerald green clothes. The one who spoke was the one dressed in green.
“Dead.” Grey’s reply was simple.
“Impossible.” The green-clothed Gnome exclaimed, “Do you take us for fools?”
“You humans always tend to play tricks. Tell us where you hid the Necromancer and we might forgive your sins.” The purple-clothed Gnome demanded in a commanding voice. He did not take Grey as a threat, nor did he believe Grey was able to kill off the Necromancer in such a short time. They saw how Grey could barely hold on against the Necromancer when he was fighting alone, so how did Grey defeat the Necromancer and his puppet in a matter of seconds then when he could not fight against the Necromancer alone before this.
Grey was not compelled to explain anything to them, he turned to the general and asked, “Do you want to sort them out now or later?”
The general took a glance at the two Gnomes and then gave Grey a hesitant look. He was still not sure if Grey would be able to deal with a Peak Sovereign Gnome alone, thinking about this, he decided it was best to withdraw and wait for the return of the other Ninth stage Sovereigns that belonged to his squad.
“There’s no point in squabbling with them today, return.”
Grey turned into a streak of light and flew off back to the city, heading straight for the Mayor’s manor.
The two Peak Sovereigns could only watch him leave since the general had his eyes on them like a predator.
The green-clothed Gnome snorted coldly, “Enjoy your little victory, in two days we will raze your city to the ground.”
Saying this, the Gnome brought out a coin and tapped it with his finger. A sound wave spread out from it, reaching all the way to the city walls that were some kilometers away. The fighting Necromancers and Gnomes heard the sound and promptly retreated.
The soldiers at the city wall chased after them for only two kilometers before returning. They knew not to overextend else they might get punished by the Gnomes since the Gnomes still had a fairly large number of troops at their camp.
….
Later that night, back at the Mayor’s manor.
Grey, who was sitting outside in the garden watching the stars, heard the footsteps of the general walking over.
When the general arrived, he sat down opposite Grey before bringing out two wine jugs and tossing one over to him, “Who are you?”
Grey caught the wine and slowly took off his mask.
The sight of Grey’s face left the general speechless, and with a chuckle he asked, “Grey Dawson?”
Grey nodded.
“I guessed as much, I just wanted to confirm. I’m general Robert.” The general replied, looking at Grey taking a sip of the wine, he also opened the wine jug on his hand and started to take large gulps. After a few minutes went by, he looked at Grey with a serious but enigmatic expression.
“In two days the Gnomes will attack. The Ninth stage Sovereigns are yet to return, and frankly, before your arrival, I was afraid we would have to concede this place to them without putting up much of a fight since we only recently found out there was another Peak Sovereign there.”
“Things are different now since you’re the one sent here. With your help, we can even kill the two Peak Sovereigns. We just have to wait for one or two of the Ninth stage Sovereigns who were sent out to return.”
Grey did not say a word, only silently drinking his wine and listening to the words of the general. He was not one who liked the intricacies of strategic war, he was like a weapon, point him in a direction and he would attack.
The duo sat in the night sky and finished their wines before the general left Grey alone.
Sitting crossed-leg, Grey decided it was best for him to spend the rest of the time before the battle cultivating. He closed his eyes and entered his Chaos Space. Since he became aware of the wood element, he started to frequent his Chaos Space once again just like when he just started cultivating to try to comprehend this new element. Compared to when he first started to see signs of the wood element having its own space in the Chaos Space, the wood element space had formed nicely now one could see trees and plants all around it.
The Chaos Space had always marveled Grey as to how something like this could exist. The only reason he was able to comprehend all elements was purely thanks to the Chaos Space. Now, he needed this strange place’s help in order to learn a brand new element.
