Chapter 673.2
Chapter 673.2
“After learning this from the Count, I kept this dagger with me for emergencies. I didn’t expect it to actually come in handy.”
The five people looked at each other.
The Countess’s explanation made perfect sense, with no logical gaps. Everything seemed reasonable.
Ji Nansheng had one more question. “Countess, the Count looked for you all night last night. Where exactly did you go?”
The Countess frowned. “I felt drowsy after drinking and wanted to rest in the lounge on the second floor, but when I opened my eyes, it was already morning. It’s just that…”
Ji Nansheng: “Just what?”
The Countess: “I found some red marks on my body, like I’d bumped into something hard, but I don’t remember falling anywhere.”
The girl quickly asked, “Can I take a look…”
Before she could finish, the Countess interrupted coldly, “No. Do you think just anyone can look at the body of the Countess?”
The girl retracted her head in embarrassment, “Uh, sorry, that was rude.”
“Shouldn’t we leave now?” The Countess anxiously glanced toward the corridor. “What if the monster catches up again?”
The five looked at each other, a little hesitant.
The captain was just inside.
If they could talk to the captain, they might find out why the ship had entered the siren’s territory.
But could they really get in?
There were heavily armed guards at the door. If they alarmed the guards, they might end up like the player who got fed to the tigers—game over.
The Count said the captain would be released after one day. Would it be better to wait until then to ask?
Ji Nansheng secretly glanced at the Countess.
Now that he thought about it, wasn’t the Countess’s timing too coincidental?
Just when they were about to investigate the captain, the Countess showed up.
She said she saw a siren, but only she saw it.
Could it be that she made the whole thing up to deceive them?
After all, the prettier the person, the more deceitful they are.
Ji Nansheng decided to take a gamble.
“Madam, you’re right. The truth will come out eventually.”
“We actually knew long ago that the Dream Star had entered the siren’s territory, and we also know that Victor wasn’t really eaten by the tiger last night. The Count locked up the captain who was steering the ship.”
“The Count hastily closed the case, but just because the guests are silent doesn’t mean they’re blind.”
“We mean no harm; we just want to enter the room ahead and uncover the truth about the sirens.”
“I heard the Count interrogated the captain all night but couldn’t get any useful information. Maybe we can.”
The Countess looked at them warily. “How do you know so much?”
Ji Nansheng struck a cool pose and quietly showed off. “The fact is, I’m a detective.”
The Countess glanced at the others suspiciously. “And them?”
Ji Nansheng: “Of course, they’re my assistants and friends. Every event follows a certain logic. The captain’s silence only means the Count hasn’t found the key to unlock his lips. The Dream Star appearing in the siren’s territory wasn’t a coincidence. Why this ship and not another? There’s got to be a reason.”
“If I can know so much, I can also get the captain to talk, as long as you’re willing to help me. We’re helping the Count, too.”
Bai Lixin barely kept a straight face, and fought hard to maintain the Countess’s elegance and confusion. “How should I help you?”
Ji Nansheng: “The captain is locked in the room ahead. If you step in, you can get us in.”
After saying this, Ji Nansheng stared hard at the Countess, watching for any subtle changes in her expression.
Would she agree or not?
If she refused, it would make her very suspicious.
If she agreed, what would she do?
Would she secretly kill them to silence them? If she did, then she was definitely connected to the sirens.
Countess, give us your answer quickly.
“Alright.” After two seconds of thought, the Countess nodded. “You helped me earlier, so I’m willing to help you. Besides, this matter will help the Count.”
“Follow me.”
Before Ji Nansheng and the others could say anything, the Countess had already walked around the corner.
Ji Nansheng and his group exchanged glances and hurried to follow.
The guards were the Count’s personal men, and when they saw the Countess, they immediately saluted.
The Countess : “Open the door, I need to go in for questioning.”
The two guards hesitated. “But the Count ordered that no one is allowed in or out of this room, as it holds a high-level criminal.”
The Countess raised her chin slightly, her gaze arrogant and domineering. “Am I just anyone? I am the Countess of Henry VI. I will take full responsibility for anything that happens. Open the door at once!”
Who could argue with a wife pulling rank with her husband’s authority?
The guards dared not hesitate any longer and stood to open the door.
Once inside, the girl whispered, “Thanks to the Countess. Without her, we really couldn’t have gotten in.”
Glasses nodded. “Exactly. I tried to get in once before and couldn’t.”
Ji Nansheng: “…”
He didn’t comment, just swiftly scanned the room with his eyes as soon as they entered, while secretly watching the Countess out of the corner of his eye.
He wanted to see if the other party would do anything suspicious.
The audience in the live broadcast had grown from three million to three and a half million.
The barrage scrolled by rapidly.
[What’s going on, Nansheng? Why are you staring at the Countess so much?]
[Are you falling for her? We can all see through your eyes, you know.]
[It’s no shame to be charmed by the Countess. She’s so beautiful, who wouldn’t be a little dizzy looking at her?]
[I don’t know if Nansheng likes looking at her, but I do. Don’t be shy, Nansheng, look openly!]
[What if the Countess is the siren?]
[It’s poetic death to die under the peonies and become a ghost! If I die at the Countess’s hands, it’s worth it!]
Ji Nansheng: “…”
‘I’m searching for evidence!’
‘I am not being a pervert!’
Since entering the room, the Countess hadn’t even approached the captain. Instead, she stood in a far corner.
The room wasn’t big, and it wasn’t clear what it was used for. It was empty except for a metal chair bolted to the floor in the center.
The captain was strapped to the metal chair with belts, tied up so tightly that there was no chance of escape.
The captain had been slumped over, sleeping, but when he heard people enter, he opened his eyes and scanned the room.
When he saw the Countess, his gaze lingered on her longer than anyone else, before he finally withdrew his look. “My apologies, noble Countess, I’m unable to salute you properly at the moment.”
The Countess stood against the wall. “No need. These people have questions for you.”
The captain frowned. “I’ve already said I don’t know anything. I’ve been sailing the set route and have no idea why we entered the siren territory. It doesn’t matter who asks me or how many times, the answer will be the same.”
Ji Nansheng: “We’re not here to ask about that today.”
The captain’s gaze turned to Ji Nansheng. “Then what do you want to ask?”
Ji Nansheng: “What did you eat last night?”
The question was so absurd that the captain froze for a moment before answering, “Steak for the main course, with cherry tomatoes and a vegetable salad, and barley beer as the drink.”
Ji Nansheng raised an eyebrow. “When did this ship set sail?”
The captain, still puzzled by Ji Nansheng’s line of questioning, answered, “Ten o’clock the morning before yesterday, we departed from the port city of Yadilal.”
Ji Nansheng: “What was the planned route? Where was the destination?”
The captain: “We left Yadilal, heading east toward the picturesque Canon Islands. We were supposed to sail through the gentle sea breeze and under the beautiful sunset of the Canon Islands, circle them for the guests to enjoy the view of the tropical forest, then head back through the Garman Strait and into the blue waters of the Southern Ocean, transitioning into the green waters of the Saint B ocean. After that, we were supposed to return the same way and arrive back at Yadilal in four days.”
Ji Nansheng: “You followed this route the whole time?”
The captain replied, “Yes, according to the course, we should’ve reached the Canon Islands last night.”
Ji Nansheng: “What did you eat a week ago?”
The captain froze again before answering, “Turkey for the main course, mushroom soup, pineapple salad, and mashed potatoes for dessert.”
Ji Nansheng: “You have such a good memory?”
The captain: “Of course.”
Ji Nansheng: “What were you wearing the day before the ship set sail?”
The captain paused briefly. “A gray leather jacket, Martin boots, and jeans.”
Ji Nansheng: “And the morning of departure?”
The captain was taken aback. “What?”
Ji Nansheng: “Can you remember? Answer me.”
The captain took a deep breath. “I wore the same thing I’m wearing today—my captain’s uniform.”
Ji Nansheng corrected him. “Listen carefully. I asked about the morning when you woke up, not what you wore on the ship.”
The captain was getting angry. “What exactly are you asking? Do you think I’m some parrot in a cage for you to toy with?”
Ji Nansheng said calmly, “You can remember what you ate a week ago, but you’ve forgotten what you wore the morning the ship set sail.”
The captain: “…”
Ji Nansheng: “Did you meet someone when you left?”
The captain turned his head away. “No.”
Ji Nansheng insisted. “No, you did. Your eyes tell me you’re lying.”
Ji Nansheng locked eyes with the captain and after a while, he said confidently, “You know that person.”
“What did they look like?”
Bai Lixin: “…”
This Ji Nansheng is quite something.
