Chapter 127 Part 2 – These Days, Being an Uncle Really Isn’t Easy (II)
The moment Jiang Li spotted Feng Yun, her expression visibly froze. Feng Qi followed her gaze and immediately frowned.
Seeing this woman here only made Feng Qi feel annoyed. He was about to head her way, but Jiang Li reached out and grabbed his arm. “She’s just an irrelevant person. No need to let her ruin our mood.”
Jiang Li didn’t lower her voice when she said it, and since Feng Yun was standing quite close, she heard it loud and clear. Her face instantly turned pale. It hurt to hear her daughter say she was irrelevant, but thinking of everything she had done in the past, she knew Xiao Li was right to treat her this way.
After hearing Jiang Li’s words, Feng Qi no longer bothered with Feng Yun. He lowered his gaze to Jiang Li and asked softly, “It really doesn’t bother you at all?”
Jiang Li nodded. “I’ve never cared.” She was slow to warm up to people—that’s simply her personality. The ones she cared about were always those who genuinely cared about her. As for Feng Yun, who had always ignored her, she had never once taken this so-called biological mother seriously.
Feng Qi nodded lightly and smiled. “Mm. Your father is me, your mother is my lab. No reason to care about anyone else.”
Then he turned his gaze to Feng Yun, his voice icy. “Xiao Lizi doesn’t care about you, so you should stay far away. If you bother her again, I’ll make sure you pay the price.”
Feng Yun looked pained. “I… I wasn’t going to…”
She could be cold and tough while torturing Jiang Huai, but when it came to facing the daughter she had failed, she genuinely didn’t know what to say or do.
Feng Qi’s anger flared as he looked at her. “I don’t want to repeat myself. If I find out you’re bothering Xiao Lizi again, I’ll talk to the best lawyer I know and find a way to extend your son’s prison sentence.”
Feng Yun stumbled back several steps. “You… you can’t do that. A’Zhou… he’s already suffering.”
Feng Qi smiled mockingly. “Then it depends on whether you really care about him.”
Before she could say anything, he added, “Don’t think that your son will be safe once the sentence is handed down. I would never interfere with the law, but there are plenty of desperate men in prison. Whether they decide to pick on your son… no one can say.”
Feng Yun was so frightened that she trembled all over. “No! I…I won’t come to see Xiao Li again, absolutely not. I promise you.”
Feng Qi smiled. “Your promise means nothing to me. I only care about the outcome.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Feng Yun turned and fled, as if running for her life.
Watching her retreating figure, Jiang Li couldn’t help but sigh. “You really are clever, Uncle. You knew exactly how to scare her.”
Feng Qi had wanted to say that he hadn’t been bluffing at all—he meant every word. But in the end, he just nodded and said, “Jiang Zhou is her weak spot. I only used it to my advantage.”
His Xiao Lizi didn’t need Feng Yun’s belated motherly affection. If Feng Yun truly felt guilty, then staying far away was the only thing she could do, and if she failed to even do that… he wouldn’t hesitate to teach her another painful lesson.
At the gate, Jiang Li signed in with security and then entered the campus with Feng Qi. When they reached the girls’ dorm, she took the other two shopping bags from him and rushed upstairs to put her things away.
Back in her room, Jiang Li was storing the bags in her locker when she heard her roommate Zhang Rongrong say, “Jiang Li, I ran into a really pretty auntie on campus earlier. She kind of looks like you.”
Jiang Li didn’t look back, just replied casually, “Don’t know her.”
Zhang Rongrong looked surprised. “Really? She was standing in front of the outstanding student board, staring at your photo for ages.”
Jiang Li turned around and stared straight at her. “What exactly are you trying to say?”
Zhang Rongrong smiled. “I was just curious. If you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. Actually, I just wanted to say happy birthday.”
Jiang Li replied succinctly: “Thank you.”
Zhang Rongrong picked up a gift box from her desk and handed it to Jiang Li. “This is my birthday present for you. I hope you like it.”
Jiang Li was visibly caught off guard. A few seconds later, she replied, “Thanks.”
Zhang Rongrong hesitated before asking, “I heard you’re treating everyone to a birthday dinner tonight?”
Jiang Li nodded. “Yep. I already counted the number of people and told the hotel in advance.”
Zhang Rongrong: “…”
The message was clear—Jiang Li had no plans to invite her, despite the gift. That whole bit about “already counted the people” was just an excuse.
Zhang Rongrong looked visibly disappointed. Jiang Li noticed. Before leaving the room, she looked back and said, “Since I can’t invite you to the dinner, you can take the gift back.”
Zhang Rongrong: “…”
She’d already given the gift—how could she take it back now? That would be way too embarrassing!
Jiang Li had such a strong personality. She’d clearly seen through her hint and preemptively shut her down before she could even speak.
Just as Jiang Li reached the door, Zhang Rongrong blurted out, “Jiang Li, that question I asked earlier—I really was just asking casually. Don’t take it to heart.”
Jiang Li turned to her. “You can ask me questions. I can also choose not to answer. I’ve never wasted energy caring about unrelated people or things.”
Zhang Rongrong: “…”
She was seriously regretting provoking Jiang Li and Wen Wan at the start of the school year. If not for that, Jiang Li wouldn’t be polite to everyone else while staying cold and distant only to her.
Zhang Rongrong sighed. She decided she’d better buy a book on emotional intelligence—otherwise, she really might end up all alone in the future.
…
After leaving the dorm, Jiang Li hurried downstairs as fast as she could—she didn’t want Feng Qi to wait too long.
But when she got outside, she saw that there was a girl standing next to him. The girl was quite pretty, and even though Feng Qi wore his usual expressionless face, the girl was still enthusiastically chatting him up, clearly not planning to leave without getting his contact information.
Jiang Li: “…”
And he said he didn’t have many admirers? Who’d believe that nonsense!
Just as she was hesitating about whether to go over, Feng Qi had already spotted her. His expression instantly softened into a smile.
The girl pestering him froze for a second, then realized the smile wasn’t meant for her. She followed his gaze and immediately spotted Jiang Li not far away. With a look of sudden understanding, she said, “So you were here to see our Prodigy God Jiang! If I’d known, I wouldn’t have wasted my time.”
Feng Qi turned to look at her and said expressionlessly, “Can’t you tell we look alike?”
The resemblance between him and Xiao Li was something pretty much everyone acknowledged. Just today while they were out shopping, several people had mistaken him for her older brother.
The girl blinked, then her eyes lit up. “You’re her older brother?”
Jiang Li walked over with a playful smile. “Yeah! Isn’t my big brother handsome?”
Feng Qi looked at her helplessly. He had only made a joke last night, but she actually took it seriously.
The girl nodded immediately, but a few seconds later, her expression changed to one of shock. “Wait, he’s not your brother—he’s your uncle, isn’t he?”
She had seen his photo in magazines before, but failed to recognize him in person!
Jiang Li gave an awkward smile. “Oh, looks like I was mistaken.”
The girl looked at Feng Qi, now excited for a different reason. “I knew you looked familiar! I just couldn’t place it. Now I remember—you’re Jiang Li’s uncle, the legendary Feng Qi!”
Feng Qi gave a simple “mm.” “If I’m not mistaken, just now you said: ‘Hey handsome, you look like my next boyfriend.'”
The girl: “…”
Saying something bold to a handsome guy was fine, but if she’d known this was a big boss in the medical world, even ten times the courage wouldn’t have been enough for that line!
Jiang Li burst out laughing. “Uncle, that’s just a generic pickup line. Don’t tell me you took it seriously?”
Feng Qi raised an eyebrow at her. “Is that what I meant to say?”
“Then what did you mean?” Jiang Li asked curiously.
“I meant that if you don’t study hard, a lot of people will hit on you just because of your face.”
“And then?” Jiang Li looked at him.
“But if you do study hard, even if they come for your face, they’ll end up saying, ‘So you’re that Jiang Li,’ and won’t dare think anything more.”
Jiang Li laughed. “Uncle, the way you’re talking now—you sound just like a schoolteacher catching kids for early dating!”
“No, that’s not quite it,” the girl next to them suddenly chimed in.
Jiang Li turned to her. “What do you mean?”
“It’s not like a schoolteacher catching students. It’s more like…” The girl glanced at Feng Qi, then said quietly, “It’s clearly like a concerned father gently warning his daughter not to date too early.”
Feng Qi, a man in his thirties with a face that looked like it belonged to a devastatingly handsome twenty-something, was now worrying about things that only forty-plus dads should worry about.
These days, being an uncle really wasn’t easy.
And being the uncle of a niece as astounding as Jiang Li—well, that was even harder.
After all, with so many people pursuing her, it was only a matter of time before she started dating!
