After Transmigrating into a Cannon Fodder Real Daughter, the Plot Changes

Chapter 146 Part 1 – Call Me Jiang Busybee (I)

Chapter 146 Part 1 – Call Me Jiang Busybee (I)

Jiang Huai lay in the hospital for two days. At first, he was still torn over whether to press charges against Feng Yun, but as he gradually calmed down, he realized he actually had no choice in this matter.

Even if he hated Feng Yun to the core, he could only swallow his anger and pretend not to blame her at all. Because even if he did press charges, the Feng family would certainly protect her, and when that happened, his life would only become even more miserable.

Not only could he not press charges, but he would even have to issue a letter of forgiveness. With the Feng family pulling strings afterward, the worst Feng Yun might face would be a suspended sentence. As long as she behaved during probation, it wouldn’t affect her much.

Jiang Huai still held onto a tiny shred of hope—that by doing this, Feng Yun might soften a little and perhaps forgive him. After all, their twenty-plus years of affection hadn’t been fake. Even if she refused to forgive him, as long as she stopped tormenting him like before, he would be grateful.

His roommate at the hospital was a middle-aged man. Somehow, he had heard about Jiang Huai’s situation, and though he put on a look of sympathy, his words were anything but kind: “So you must have cheated, right? Otherwise, your wife wouldn’t have been this ruthless.”

Jiang Huai: “…”

He had indeed cheated—but that was twenty years ago. If not for Ruoruo’s accidental birth and Jiang Ya secretly swapping the two children, Feng Yun might never have found out for the rest of her life.

But there are no secrets that last forever, and now he was reaping his retribution.

The man in the next bed seemed like a chatterbox. Seeing Jiang Huai stay silent, he kept talking anyway: “Really, you didn’t know how to cherish what you had. Otherwise, how could you end up like this? Me, I’ve been single for decades—if a woman were willing to be with me, I’d give her everything good I had. Why would I ever cheat? No woman except your wife is going to be truly sincere with you.”

Jiang Huai: “…”

If this man had seen him six months earlier, he would never have dared speak like this.

Back then, even though his company was already in trouble, to outsiders who didn’t know the details, he was still the glamorous Mr. Jiang.

And yet… that was all in the past. Now he had nothing, drowning in debt. If not for hiding from his creditors, he wouldn’t be reduced to such misery.

For more than half a year, Feng Yun had tormented him to the point of collapse. His spirit and appearance were so different that he looked like another person altogether. Sometimes when he looked in the mirror, he barely recognized himself.

The chatterbox kept going: “If you ask me, don’t blame anyone else. Once a couple, you’re bound by responsibility and affection. If you really sent her to prison, that would mean divorce. And in your state, you couldn’t find another wife anyway. You must have kids, right? If your wife ends up with a criminal record, your child’s future—like taking the civil service exam—will be affected. That’d be a big hassle.”

His endless babble made Jiang Huai furious. He wanted to tell the hospital staff to throw the man out, or at least move him to another room. But he had no money now—he didn’t dare make any demands.

Just as he was debating whether to tell the man to shut up, Old Master Feng suddenly walked into the ward.

The old man’s gaze was as if he were looking at filthy trash. “After I bailed her out, I had her taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. If you want to press charges, do as you wish.”

Facing his father-in-law, who had never once acknowledged him, Jiang Huai felt no confidence at all. After a long silence, he asked, “What… what do you want?”

The old master continued, “I won’t force you to make any choice. But if you’re willing to issue a letter of forgiveness and leave Minjiang City for good without contacting her again, I can pay off your debts for you.”

Jiang Huai’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You… you really mean it?”

Old Master Feng narrowed his eyes. “When have my words ever not counted?”

Jiang Huai: “…”

A few years ago, when Feng Qi suddenly came to take custody of Jiang Li and bring her back to the Feng family, he had promised not to reveal that Jiang Li was the Jiang family’s true daughter. But not long after, the Feng family had held a grand banquet to announce Jiang Li’s existence to the world. How could that be considered keeping his word?

But Jiang Huai also knew he had no right to negotiate with the old master now. Besides, he hadn’t intended to press charges against Feng Yun anyway. If her father kept his word, then he could rid himself of his debts and also free himself from Feng Yun, finally escaping this misery.

Jiang Huai looked up at Old Master Feng. “I accept your terms.”

Having achieved his goal, the old man didn’t linger in the ward. He instructed the housekeeper to prepay Jiang Huai’s hospital fees, then left.

The moment he stepped out of the hospital gate, Old Master Feng pulled out his phone and dialed a number. When the call connected, his voice was low as he asked about Feng Yun’s mental state. Upon hearing that she still refused to say a word, remaining completely silent, the old man could only sigh helplessly.

As the car moved slowly forward, Old Master Feng couldn’t help but turn his head toward his trusted housekeeper. “Tell me… have I never been a qualified father?”

The housekeeper sighed, “Sir, how could you think that? The young miss did what she did because she couldn’t think things through. Back when she chose to be with Jiang Huai, you tried everything to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. There was nothing more you could do.”

Old Master Feng’s voice was heavy with regret. “If I had been firmer back then—locked her in, refused to let her see Jiang Huai, or sent men to drag her back after she eloped—would things have turned out differently?”

The housekeeper shook his head. “You’re not a god, sir. How could you predict the future? The young miss may appear gentle, but once she sets her mind on something, no one can easily dissuade her. If you had forced her back then, perhaps… perhaps her mental state would have collapsed long ago.”

Old Master Feng knew the housekeeper was trying to comfort him. With a sigh, he leaned back onto the seat, unable to say another word.

What he told Jiang Huai at the hospital—that he had sent Feng Yun to a specialized hospital for a psychiatric evaluation—wasn’t a lie. Her mind truly had shown signs of breaking.

Before laying hands on Jiang Huai, Feng Yun had called both the police and the ambulance. But after the police brought her to the station, she refused to say a single word. Her expression and demeanor were so abnormal that the officers suspected she had mental issues.

When Old Master Feng learned of this, he didn’t even have the heart to scold her. He rushed to bail her out and send her to a specialized hospital to confirm her condition.

Psychiatric evaluations take time and can’t yield quick results. But regardless of her diagnosis, Old Master Feng no longer wanted her entangled with Jiang Huai.

He had known she took twisted pleasure in tormenting Jiang Huai, and though he was aware, he had tolerated it. After all, his daughter had been trampled on by that beast for more than twenty years—why shouldn’t she retaliate?

But now her actions had permanently ruined Jiang Huai’s life. True, as long as Jiang Huai issued a letter of forgiveness, she would likely face only a suspended sentence. Still, if left unchecked with him, who knew what else she might do in the future?

She was his daughter—he couldn’t bear to watch her keep straying further until she destroyed herself completely. The only choice was to separate her from Jiang Huai.

Seeing his employer’s furrowed brows, the housekeeper suggested, “Why don’t we go visit the young miss at the hospital? You’re her father. Perhaps seeing you will help her recover faster.”

Old Master Feng stayed silent for a long time before nodding slowly. “Let’s go.”

When they arrived at the hospital, they found Feng Yun sitting absentmindedly on a bench in the garden, completely unresponsive to the world around her.

Old Master Feng turned to the caregiver. “She’s… been like this the whole time?”

The caregiver nodded. “Since admission. The doctors have tried many ways to rouse her, but nothing has worked.”

Upon hearing that the patriarch of the Feng family had arrived, the hospital director and doctors rushed over.

After explaining the situation, one doctor suggested, “Ms Feng’s mental condition has indeed deteriorated. But her case is unusual—there’s still a high chance of recovery. It will, however, require your cooperation.”

Old Master Feng asked anxiously, “What do I need to do?”

The doctor answered truthfully: “We must find the root of her breakdown, the knot in her heart. If we can help her resolve it, she may gradually recover.”

Old Master Feng let out a bitter laugh. “The knot is that she was deceived for over twenty years. But she’s already had her revenge. What knots are left to untie?”

“Does she have someone or something she especially cares about?” the doctor asked.
