Jiang Li suddenly transformed into “Jiang Busybee,” making Tong Yi pause for a moment in surprise. “You just published an SCI paper not long ago—don’t tell me your uncle has already given you a new assignment?”

Jiang Li nodded. “Uh-huh, I think my uncle sees me as a high-potential stock and wants to fully tap into it.”

Tong Yi: “…”

He actually suspected that Third Master Feng was just trying to keep Jiang Xiao Li busy so she wouldn’t have time to pay attention to the situation with the Jiang couple.

After learning what Feng Yun had done to Jiang Huai, he wasn’t the least bit surprised. Jiang Huai’s actions had truly been despicable.

He had met Ms Feng a few times before. Though she wasn’t exactly the brightest, there was nothing to fault in her appearance or personality. That idiot Jiang Huai was completely unworthy of her.

And yet Jiang Huai somehow managed to win her over, even tricking her into raising his mistress’s illegitimate daughter for years. If that wasn’t enough, he even wanted their legitimate daughter to donate a kidney to the illegitimate one. That Ms Feng only exploded now… honestly, that was already an incredible level of restraint.

The fact that Feng Yun had turned Jiang Huai into a eunuch had already become a running joke within their social circle. At first, he was a bit worried the news would upset Jiang Xiao Li, so he had subtly tested the waters a few times, only to discover that she had no idea at all. The Feng family must have deliberately kept it from her.

Since that was the case, he naturally had no intention of breaking the news himself. And now, watching Jiang Li dive headfirst into full study mode, he chose not to interrupt her and instead turned to Wen Wan. “What about you? Caught up in the busybee life too?”

Wen Wan nodded seriously and then replied in a low voice, “Starting today, you can call me Wen Busybee.”

She had just turned seventeen not long ago and was still quite a while from adulthood. Since she couldn’t date yet, she figured she might as well follow Jiang Busybee’s lead and become a busybee herself. Who knows, maybe her efforts would win her a scholarship.

The scholarship money wasn’t much, but her parents would definitely give her a bonus if they knew she had earned one. That would make a nice little fortune!

Tong Yi: “…”

Alright, these two were clearly dead set on diving into the life of busybees. He definitely couldn’t afford to fall behind now.

“How about I come with you two to the library?” He asked Jiang Li, looking at her with hopeful eyes.

Jiang Li blinked in surprise. “Most of the books in our library are medical-related. You probably wouldn’t be interested.”

Tong Yi replied immediately, “Most are medical-related, but there’s bound to be a few novels or magazines, right? I’ll just pick one and read.”

Wen Wan looked up at him. “Are you going to the library to read books or to stalk Jiang Busybee?”

Tong Yi chuckled. “Wen Busybee, you used to be all shy, and now you’re suddenly all nosy. Does Lin Zhao know about this new side of you?”

Wen Wan looked pleased with herself. “I’m only shy in front of strangers. Around people I know well, I don’t have to be shy at all.”

Tong Yi teased, “Are we that close?”

Wen Wan answered seriously, “I’m good friends with Jiang Busybee, and you’re her pursuer—so I’d say we’re fairly familiar. But if you ever stop being her pursuer, then we probably won’t be familiar anymore.”

Tong Yi burst out laughing. “If I ever stop being her pursuer, it’ll be because I’ve become her boyfriend. You sure we won’t be more familiar then?”

Wen Wan hooked her arm around Jiang Li’s and walked toward the library. She looked back at him and mumbled, “When you bicker with Jiang Busybee, you’re all clumsy and tongue-tied. But when you’re arguing with me, you’re suddenly kind of sharp.”

Tong Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “So what, you think I should go easy on you?”

Wen Wan asked curiously, “Did you go easy on Jiang Busybee before?”

Tong Yi: “…”

There was no good way to answer that.

“Oh? So you’ve been going easy on me all along?” Jiang Li looked at him with an amused glint in her eyes.

Tong Yi shook his head immediately. “How could I dare? If I don’t go easy on you, I’ll lose terribly. But if I do, I’ll be left with nothing but bones!”

Wen Wan looked triumphant as she turned to Jiang Li. “I knew it! The best way to beat Tong Yi is to bring you into the fight. I don’t even need to lift a finger—he surrenders on his own. It feels amazing.”

Jiang Li smiled. “So you’re using me as a human shield now?”

Wen Wan shook her head quickly and hugged her arm. “You’re my best friend—how could you be a shield? Besides, Tong Yi isn’t even an enemy!”

Tong Yi: “…”

He used to sling his arm around Jiang Xiao Li’s shoulder all the time, and she never said a word. But ever since he confessed to her, he hadn’t gotten that kind of treatment again. Watching Wen Wan cling to Jiang Xiao Li now, he felt a little jealous.

Too bad Jiang Xiao Li liked the mature and steady type! Otherwise, maybe he could switch up and try playing the clingy puppy route instead.

The three of them chatted and laughed as they headed to the library. Jiang Li and Wen Wan showed their library cards to the librarian and explained that Tong Yi was a friend they had brought along. The librarian asked Tong Yi to present his ID for registration and then allowed all three of them to enter.

Once inside the library, the trio immediately fell silent, even walking more lightly.

Jiang Li and Wen Wan were frequent visitors and went straight up to the third floor to look for books in their target section.

Tong Yi, entirely on his own, wandered around like a restless fly. After circling the third floor once, he realized it was entirely filled with medical-related books, so he went back down to the second floor and picked out a mystery novel. When he entered the reading area with the novel, he found that both Jiang Li and Wen Wan were already seated and studying. Unfortunately, there were no empty seats next to Jiang Li.

It wasn’t that she hadn’t saved him a seat—there were simply too many studious students in here, and available spots were scarce. Jiang Li and Wen Wan had to sit separately, so it was impossible for them to reserve a spot for him.

Seeing Jiang Li focused on taking notes, Tong Yi found a seat in a nearby corner and casually flipped open the mystery novel to kill time.

After about five or six pages, he couldn’t help but yawn—he had already guessed who the culprit was. He flipped to the last page and confirmed his deduction, instantly losing interest in the book.

He looked up in Jiang Li’s direction and saw that she was still completely absorbed in her studies. Resting his chin on his hand, he openly stared at her profile.

Back in junior high, she had also been this studious. He had sat right next to her then, but never realized just how beautiful her side profile was.

Well, he must’ve lacked aesthetic sense back then, only noticing her money-grubbing side.

Sitting next to Tong Yi was a bespectacled student. Seeing Tong Yi staring at Jiang Li, he couldn’t help but whisper, “That’s the goddess of our entire department. You’d better stop looking. No matter how long you stare, you’re still not getting a chance.”

Tong Yi turned to the student and smiled. “You might not have a chance, but I’m different.”

The other party scoffed. “Dream on. Goddess Jiang already has a boyfriend.”

Tong Yi raised an eyebrow. “Boyfriend?”

The bespectacled guy nodded quickly. “Her boyfriend is some genius from the neighboring Capital University. Super handsome, and apparently loaded. He’s often seen picking her up in a sports car—I heard that car costs nearly ten million.”

Tong Yi chuckled. “But have you ever considered that the car might belong to your Goddess Jiang, and her… boyfriend is just borrowing it?”

When he said the word “boyfriend,” his gaze softened, and his voice took on a gentle tone.

The bespectacled guy looked incredulous. “You’ve read too many novels, haven’t you? Goddess Jiang is a genius—you really think she’d throw herself at some broke loser?”

Before Tong Yi could respond, the guy paused, looking contemplative. “I mean, you’re definitely good-looking—probably the type girls go crazy over. If you were aiming to land a rich, pretty girlfriend and ride her coattails, you might even pull it off. But our Goddess Jiang? No way. She’s not the type to fall for just a pretty face.”

Though he kept his voice low, he still disturbed the girl sitting beside him. She turned her head and glared. “Are you here to study or to gossip?”

The bespectacled student immediately whispered an apology, “Sorry, sorry. We’ll stop.”

Then he turned to Tong Yi and sighed helplessly. If he had looked like that, he’d probably be tempted to mooch off a rich beauty too—there’s nothing shameful about it. Unfortunately, good looks were rare, and good-looking guys were even rarer. He himself had no shot at that kind of life.

Tong Yi could practically read his mind, but he didn’t bother explaining. He just continued daydreaming while looking toward Jiang Li.

‘Live-in son-in-law, huh? That’s what it meant, right? Honestly… didn’t sound so bad.’

‘If I proposed to marry into Jiang Xiao Li’s family, Grandpa Feng would probably be thrilled!’

He seriously pondered this:

Feng Bai could probably be sweet-talked into it, while Feng Song would definitely respect Jiang Xiao Li’s decision. As for Feng Yang… well, his aunt could handle him.

Jiang Xiao Li’s uncles and aunts? They’d probably be easy to sway too… except for one.

Third Master Feng, the ultimate last boss!
