Chapter 148 Part 1 – There Are Some Things I Want to Say to Her (I)
Jiang Li spent the entire Sunday morning at the library. By the time she finished what she was working on, it was nearly lunchtime. She packed her books and stationery into her backpack, walked over to tap Wen Wan, who was still reading, and whispered, “Pack up—time to go eat.”
“Time passed that fast?” Wen Wan immediately looked up, confused. She used to be the kind of person who couldn’t sit still, but after a few trips to the library with Jiang Li, she gradually learned to immerse herself in studying. Sometimes she even lost track of time entirely—until Jiang Li came to get her, snapping her out of study mode.
Seeing that Wen Wan had once again forgotten the time because of studying, Jiang Li couldn’t help but smile. “When you’re fully focused on something, time naturally feels like it flies.”
Then she turned toward the corner where Tong Yi sat and signaled with her eyes for him to pack up and leave.
The moment Tong Yi saw her look his way, he stood up and began making his way over to them. As he passed the bespectacled guy from earlier, he lightly tapped the boy’s shoulder with the book in his hand and said with a smile, “That car really is Goddess Jiang’s. She doesn’t like driving long distances, so she often lends it to me.”
Before the guy could react, Tong Yi had already turned and walked off in Jiang Li’s direction.
The bespectacled student stared after him, utterly confused, until he saw Tong Yi take Jiang Li’s backpack as they met up. At that moment, his entire mind went blank.
‘So that guy who had just been sitting next to me is the rumored genius from Capital University? Goddess Jiang’s rich boyfriend?’
The bespectacled student felt like he was dreaming. He turned to the girl next to him, who was also packing her things, and couldn’t help but ask, “Was that really Goddess Jiang’s boyfriend sitting beside me just now?”
Now that study time was over, the girl didn’t mind the question and answered without stopping her hands. “Aren’t there tons of posts about them on the forum? Go check. It’s all there.”
The bespectacled guy laughed. “All those forum photos are secretly taken—you can’t even see his face clearly. But now that you mention it, he really does look like the guy in those pictures. You girls are always more observant, aren’t you? How’d you recognize him so fast?”
The girl finished packing and, before leaving the reading room, turned to say, “I’m not actually that observant. I didn’t recognize him either until he walked over to Goddess Jiang. If I’d known earlier, I wouldn’t have scolded you two just now.”
After all, that was Goddess Jiang’s boyfriend, so some courtesy should be shown. Plus, Goddess Jiang’s boyfriend had been speaking quietly, barely disturbing anyone. It was that bespectacled guy who’d been loud and annoying.
The bespectacled guy: “…”
‘This double standard couldn’t have been more obvious!’
But hearing that even she hadn’t recognized the boyfriend until just now made him feel less embarrassed. Of course it was hard to tell—the difference between a blurry photo and a live person was huge. Probably a lot of people wouldn’t recognize him either.
Thinking back to his earlier conversation with Goddess Jiang’s boyfriend, the bespectacled guy couldn’t help but sigh. “So even Goddess Jiang falls for a pretty face… She even lets her boyfriend drive her car. He’s way too lucky!”
The girl gave him a sidelong glance. “If Goddess Jiang lets him drive her car, that means she thinks he’s worth it. Maybe the gifts he’s given her are way more expensive than that car.”
The bespectacled guy: “…”
Okay, fair enough—one really shouldn’t judge things by appearances.
…
After leaving the library, Tong Yi suggested a hotpot lunch. Winters here were so damn freezing, and hotpot was a good way to warm up!
Wen Wan immediately chimed in, “I love hotpot too! Wait, let me give Lin Zhao a call—let’s see if he’s coming as well.”
Tong Yi teased her on purpose. “What if Lin Zhao is on a date with another girl right now? Your call would really put him on the spot.”
Wen Wan’s brows scrunched high. She knew she couldn’t out-talk Tong Yi, so she turned to Jiang Li with a pitiful look. “Look! Tong Yi’s bullying me.”
Jiang Li had zero resistance to Wen Wan’s whining. She frowned and gave Tong Yi a scolding. “Stop bullying the kid.”
Tong Yi suddenly remembered something Hades Li had once said to him and chuckled. “You’re calling her a kid? She’s seventeen and a half!”
Wen Wan immediately retorted: “Not seventeen and a half, only seventeen and one month!”
Jiang Li laughed and ruffled her hair. “If you don’t hurry up and call Lin Zhao, he might go eat lunch by himself. You don’t want to put him in an awkward spot, don’t you?”
Wen Wan said quickly, “I’ll call him right now!”
As she took out her phone, Jiang Li reached over to poke Tong Yi’s arm. “Why do you keep picking on her?”
Tong Yi leaned closer, smiling. “Me? I’m not picking on anyone. But if you insist on saying I am, then it must be because I’m jealous.”
“Jealous?” Jiang Li looked surprised.
Tong Yi nodded seriously. “When it’s just the two of us, you don’t act like this.”
Whenever it was just the two of them, Jiang Xiao Li would sometimes get a bit sweet and never hesitate to show her annoyance. But as soon as Wen Wan was around, she’d straighten right up. The adorable little tantrums? Completely gone.
Jiang Li gave him a dangerous smile. “And what exactly am I like when it’s just us?”
Tong Yi immediately said, “You throw little tantrums at me—and sometimes you even stomp on me.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Li lightly stomped on his white sneakers.
“Happy now?” she asked.
Tong Yi: “…”
Jiang Xiao Li had followed his request exactly, but… somehow, it still felt like something was missing.
After Wen Wan hung up the call, she quickly caught up and linked arms with Jiang Li, her voice cheerful. “Lin Zhao hasn’t had lunch yet—he said he’s coming to join us.”
Tong Yi was just about to tease her when he caught sight of Jiang Li’s warning look. He instantly pressed a finger to his lips and made a zipping motion, pretending to lock his mouth shut.
Jiang Li shook her head and laughed. She really found Tong Yi childish sometimes—he didn’t act like someone in his twenties at all.
Before Tong Yi confessed to her, Jiang Li had always thought she’d be into the mature and steady type. But now she realized… a guy being a little childish occasionally could actually be kind of cute.
Though not at all times, of course. If he were childish all the time, she’d definitely feel the urge to give him a good beating.
The three of them went to the hotpot restaurant together, with Lin Zhao arriving not long after.
During the meal, Jiang Li brought up that she was planning to sign up for a swimming class, and asked Wen Wan if she wanted to join.
This swimming class wasn’t compulsory—she simply took it because this semester’s PE course included swimming, and she didn’t know how to swim.
As one of the school’s best-known students, Jiang Li absolutely could not allow herself to embarrass herself in front of everyone during swimming class.
If she flailed around in the water like a drowning duck, someone would definitely film it and upload it to the school forum. And once it was posted, the thread would absolutely go viral.
Just thinking about it gave her chills!
Hearing that Jiang Li planned to take a swimming class, Wen Wan looked surprised. “Wait, you don’t know how to swim?”
Jiang Li answered honestly, “Strictly speaking, I’ve never been in a swimming pool before.”
“You mean there’s actually something you can’t do?” Wen Wan was taken aback. In her eyes, Jiang Li excelled at everything. If she hadn’t heard it straight from her, she would never have believed Jiang Li didn’t know how to swim.
Then again, it was probably just temporary. Anything Jiang Li set her mind to, she learned fast.
Faced with Wen Wan’s shocked expression, Jiang Li replied with a blank look, “Didn’t I make it obvious enough when we were in the hot spring last time?”
Wen Wan quickly shook her head. “You looked pretty calm back then.”
Jiang Li: “…”
She wasn’t calm at all—especially when she first got into the water. She felt like she was floating the entire time and only got used to it after a while.
But again, Wen Wan hadn’t even been in the hot spring pool with her. This girl had been sulking outside in a bikini, annoyed because Lin Zhao was being too strict.
Wen Wan smiled. “I do know how to swim, but I can still sign up with you. Learning to swim is easy, and you’re so smart—you’ll get the hang of it in no time.”
Jiang Li shook her head. “No need. I can go alone. You should go on a date with your Lin Zhao instead.”
Lately, Wen Wan had been stuck to her, and Lin Zhao had already been acting like a lone wolf for a while now. If she dragged Wen Wan to swimming class too, he’d probably start to resent her.
As Jiang Li said this, Lin Zhao smiled at Wen Wan. She met his soft, affectionate gaze, and her cheeks flushed slightly.
Tong Yi looked at Jiang Li and asked, “When are you planning to start learning?”
“Probably every Sunday from now on. Anyway, the semester’s PE classes haven’t started yet, so I’m not in a rush.”
Tong Yi chuckled. “If you sign up for a group class, the coach won’t be teaching just you. You might end up learning with a bunch of elementary schoolers. That’ll be pretty awkward.”
Jiang Li pondered for a moment and said, “I could sign up for private lessons—one-on-one teaching should help me learn quickly.”
Tong Yi tapped his fingers on the table. “I’ve heard private coaches are expensive. And if you want to reserve the whole pool for yourself, it’ll cost even more.”
Wen Wan looked shocked. “Tong Yi, are you seriously complaining about Jiang Li spending money? That’s so unlike you—what are you scheming?”
Tong Yi: “…”
‘Wen Busybee, are you sent by the heavens to mess with me?’
