Chapter 150 Part 1 – If Third Master Feng Found Out (I)
After ending the call with Feng Qi, Jiang Li set her phone aside and began organizing her swimming gear, getting ready to go downstairs and meet up with Tong Yi.
It was Sunday today, which was a day off in theory, but the other two roommates in the dorm were away, leaving only Wen Wan and Jiang Li behind.
Wen Wan had just woken up and was sitting on her bed in a daze. Seeing that Jiang Li was once again preparing to wear her sporty swimsuit, she looked a little disappointed. “I thought you’d bring a bikini this time. Why is it still that one?”
Jiang Li teased, “Got addicted to bikinis, have you?”
Wen Wan whispered, “I think you should give it a try. Who knows, maybe there’ll be a surprise!”
If Tong Yi saw Jiang Li in a bikini, there was no way he’d be able to focus on coaching properly—the whole scene would probably end up being hilarious.
Jiang Li shook her head and chuckled. “More like a scare than a surprise.”
No matter how you looked at it, Tong Yi was still pursuing her. And not just casually, because he was pretty close to “making it official.” If she really went to swim lessons with him wearing a bikini… Jiang Li imagined the scenario and immediately gave up on the idea.
Wen Wan let out a sigh. “It’s a pity I’m going shopping with Lin Zhao today. Otherwise, I’d definitely tag along to witness the juicy scene of Tong Yi teaching you how to swim.”
Jiang Li solemnly said to her. “Juicy scenes aren’t suitable for minors.”
Wen Wan whispered, “I’m turning eighteen soon! Then I can finally date Lin Zhao. If Tong Yi still hasn’t won you over by then, that’d really be tragic.”
Jiang Li was briefly stunned. “You think he’s tragic?”
Wen Wan thought for a moment before replying, “Maybe not too tragic. After all, he’s the only one you’ve acknowledged. That alone would make a lot of people jealous.”
Not tragic? What a joke. When the person you like is right in front of you, but you can’t hold hands or hug them… well, that’s sure quite pitiful.
But with how Tong Yi had the audacity to suggest setting Lin Zhao up with another girl the last time, there’s no way she’d take his side now!
Jiang Li smiled at Wen Wan. “I’m heading out. If you don’t get up soon, Lin Zhao’s going to turn into a moldy statue waiting downstairs.”
Wen Wan stretched. “I’m getting up now. You’d better get going too, or Tong Yi’s going to become a statue of a hopeless pursuer.”
Jiang Li headed downstairs with her small backpack. As soon as she walked out of the dorm, she saw that Tong Yi was indeed already waiting.
He had been standing under the bulletin board at the base of the dorm building, playing on his phone. But the moment he saw Jiang Li, he quickly put it away and gave her a gentle, harmless smile.
Jiang Li walked up to him and looked up. “Have you been here long?”
They had agreed to leave at nine, and it was just about nine now. But this guy didn’t look like he had just arrived.
Tong Yi smiled. “I just woke up a bit early, and on the way, I grabbed us some breakfast.”
As he spoke, he took a food wrapper from his coat and opened it, holding it out to her. “Let’s eat it while it’s still hot.”
Jiang Li saw that he’d bought steamed buns, and the folds on top looked awfully familiar. She had been to that shop once before and casually mentioned that the vegetable buns there were pretty good. She didn’t expect him to remember.
And that bun shop wasn’t even on the way between her campus and his, so this “on the way” story was clearly a lie. But instead of calling him out on it, she took a bun from the bag and found it still quite warm—likely because he had been holding it close to his chest the whole time.
Tong Yi took out one for himself and took a bite. “Jiang Xiao Li, I still think you’re way too skinny. How about trying meat for breakfast from now on?”
Jiang Li immediately shook her head. “That’s just your imagination. I think my weight is perfect.”
Tong Yi looked at her with a smile. “With those skinny arms and legs, I could lift you with one hand. Want to bet?”
The response he got was a dangerous smile. “Try it?”
Tong Yi: “…”
If he actually dared to try, Jiang Xiao Li would definitely hit him! She might look skinny, but she had a decent level of combat skill. If he pissed her off enough to throw punches, he’d end up very miserable.
After finishing the buns, Tong Yi attentively pulled out some wet wipes to clean Jiang Li’s hands, then took a bottle of hot drink from his pocket and handed it to her. “Try it? See how it tastes.”
Jiang Li unscrewed the cap and took a sip, her eyes lighting up. “It’s good.”
Tong Yi gave her a warm smile. “It’s pear-flavored. I tried it beforehand and figured you’d probably like it.”
Jiang Li deliberately challenged him. “What if I didn’t like it?”
Tong Yi was briefly stunned. “Didn’t you just say it was good?”
Jiang Li gave a light “mm” in response. “I said it was good, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I like it. Just like I think you’re very good, but that doesn’t mean I’ve accepted your pursuit. Those aren’t contradictory.”
Seeing the sly glint in her eyes, Tong Yi knew she was teasing him on purpose, so he laughed and asked, “You think I’m very good?”
Jiang Li nodded seriously. “Mm, you’re good enough.”
Tong Yi gave a soft laugh. “You already said I’m a good guy, so why not give me a chance to make it official? Once we’re dating, you’ll find I have even more good qualities.”
Jiang Li gave him a puzzled look. “I said you’re good enough, not a good guy. There’s a difference. You know about the ‘Nice Guy’ trope, right?”
As she said this, they had just reached the campus gate. The moment her words left her mouth, Tong Yi suddenly stepped forward two paces, leaning closer—causing Jiang Li to instinctively step back, ending up with her back against the outer wall.
Tong Yi raised an eyebrow at her. “Actually, I can be a bit bad too, but that mode hasn’t been unlocked yet. Want to try unlocking it?”
Jiang Li gave him a shove and raised her fist like a warning. “If you dare, try it, but don’t blame me for beating you up right here on the street.”
Seeing the faint blush on her cheeks, Tong Yi’s heart stirred. He grabbed Jiang Li’s fist and laced his fingers through hers, walking forward while holding her hand.
His sudden move left Jiang Li slightly puzzled.
She had just threatened him, so how was it not working?
Noticing she didn’t pull away immediately, Tong Yi’s smile widened. He quickly interlocked all ten fingers with hers and whispered, “We’re about to cross the street. I’ll hold your hand—this way, even with your eyes closed, you’ll be safe.”
Jiang Li looked up at him. “Why does it feel like you’re taking advantage of me?”
Tong Yi looked down at her. “I’m only taking advantage with you, for life.”
Jiang Li: “…”
All she’d done was impulsively give him his score, and now he acted like something inside him had just been awakened?
Still, the hand holding hers was surprisingly warm. Their fingers were fully interlaced, and she didn’t really feel like pulling away even as her heartbeat quickened.
Jiang Li showed a puzzled expression again.
There was a saying that couples who’d been friends for too long didn’t go through many emotional highs and lows—like holding hands, for instance, something they were supposed to have gotten used to long ago.
But somehow, that wasn’t the case with her and Tong Yi.
Maybe it was because Tong Yi hadn’t casually thrown his arm around her shoulders in a long time, and now he was suddenly holding her hand like this—interlaced fingers and all—that it felt different?
Seeing her spacing out, a subtle smile tugged at the corners of Tong Yi’s lips.
Jiang Xiao Li was always decisive when it came to everything, except feelings.
He used to think there was no rush to formalize their relationship. He’d wait until Jiang Xiao Li was ready to accept him willingly, and then they’d have a passionate, head-over-heels romance.
If she never wanted to date, he would keep waiting, waiting until she told him, in her own words, that she was ready.
But from their banter just now, Tong Yi suddenly realized: a proud girl like Jiang Xiao Li would never be the one to say “I’m ready” first.
If he kept acting like a gentleman who liked her but stayed within polite boundaries, they might stay forever stuck in a “not-quite-lovers” phase.
So, when it was time to act shamelessly, he’d do it. He had thick skin anyway. If Jiang Xiao Li actually got mad and beat him up… so be it.
The moment she let him interlace their fingers without protest, Tong Yi knew he had made the right call—because she wasn’t angry, and she didn’t try to pull away.
Turns out, all her earlier threats were just words, and nothing more.
Right now, Tong Yi was brimming with confidence. He felt that turning from Jiang Xiao Li’s pursuer into her boyfriend was just a matter of time.
He held her hand as they crossed the street, then the two of them went to the parking lot on the other side to get the car, preparing to drive to the swimming pool.
When Jiang Li had just gotten her license, she thought driving was fun. But once the novelty wore off and she got good at it, she realized that she didn’t actually enjoy being the driver.
Especially when she was out with Tong Yi—she preferred sitting comfortably as the passenger, sometimes even sneaking in a nap.
Just like usual, Jiang Li headed for the passenger seat. As she was about to buckle her seatbelt, Tong Yi suddenly leaned over, getting very close to her.
His warm breath brushed past her ear, and Jiang Li could feel the heat rushing to her face.
What was Tong Yi trying to do?
