Chapter 158 Part 1 – She Really Likes This Bonus Ring (I)

After returning to her room, Jiang Li quickly went to the bathroom to wash up, then went to bed right on schedule, just like always. But just as she was drifting off into a light sleep, her phone on the nightstand suddenly rang.

She reached toward her pillow, fumbling around a few times before finally grabbing her phone. She was a little curious about who would be calling her at this hour—after all, everyone knew she kept a strict “early to bed, early to rise” routine, and usually no one would bother her at night.

Squinting at the screen, when she saw the name “Grandpa” displayed, her drowsiness instantly vanished.

It had already been years since she arrived at the Feng family, so she naturally knew that Grandpa, like her, kept a strict, regimented lifestyle. A call from him at this hour was far from normal.

After answering, Jiang Li asked, “Grandpa, it’s already so late—why aren’t you asleep?”

There was a brief silence on the other end before Old Master Feng asked, “What time will you be coming back tomorrow?”

Jiang Li found the question a bit odd but still answered honestly, “If there’s no traffic, I should be home before ten in the morning.”

Old Master Feng then asked, “Are you coming back alone?”

Jiang Li: “…”

If she’d only thought his earlier question was a little strange, now she was absolutely certain—Grandpa knew about her and Tong Yi.

She had just confessed everything to her eldest brother, and now Grandpa was calling her with questions like this. There was no need to think about it—Feng Yang must’ve told him.

She lowered her voice and asked, “Grandpa, do you want me to come back alone… or do you want me to bring Tong Yi with me?”

Since they’d already been found out, there was no point in beating around the bush. Besides, Grandpa had always been fond of Tong Yi. He probably wouldn’t object to their relationship.

Sure enough, the moment she finished speaking, Old Master Feng said, “If you’ve really thought this through and want to be with Xiao Yi, then bring him back with you.”

A few years ago, Tong Bingran had come to him trying to stir up trouble, claiming that Xiao Yi had his eyes on Xiao Jiang Li. Back then, he hadn’t taken it seriously. The two kids got along naturally in pure friendship, no sign of romance whatsoever.

But when his eldest grandson suddenly called today, telling him Xiao Jiang Li and Xiao Yi were officially dating, he felt… it actually wasn’t a bad thing.

Tong Yi was a child he’d practically watched grow up. Though his growth experience was a bit rough, his character and temperament were solid. Plus, he and Xiao Jiang Li had known each other for years. They understood each other well. With him, Xiao Jiang Li wouldn’t be taken advantage of.

The tragedy that happened to his daughter still haunted him. Old Master Feng absolutely didn’t want his granddaughter to suffer anything remotely similar.

He had always thought Jiang Li was too pure and constantly worried she might be deceived by some unscrupulous man. Now that he knew she was dating Tong Yi, the worry in his heart finally eased.

If the two kids could stay together, he’d be more than happy to see it.

Jiang Li hadn’t expected her grandfather to be even more straightforward than she was. She couldn’t help asking quietly, “Grandpa, I started dating behind your back. Aren’t you mad at me?”

Hearing her childish question, Old Master Feng chuckled. “Secretly dating might not be the best, but it’s only human nature. Grandpa’s not angry.”

When he was young, he and his wife had secretly dated for quite a while before finally introducing each other to their families.

Being completely open with the family from the very beginning of a relationship wasn’t required. He hadn’t even done that himself, so how could he expect it from his granddaughter?

As for why he had opposed his daughter being with Jiang Huai back then, it wasn’t because of the secrecy or because of Jiang Huai’s humble background. It was because he had seen early on that Jiang Huai simply wasn’t worthy of his daughter.

But both Xiao Jiang Li and Xiao Yi were good kids. Their relationship was something he had no reason to oppose, much less get mad about, just because they hadn’t told him earlier.

However, thinking about his youngest son who only ever focused on lab experiments, Old Master Feng couldn’t help but add, “I may not be mad, but whether your Third Uncle will be—that, I’m not so sure.”

A’Qi was far too rational. Before Jiang Li came to live with them, all he ever cared about was his experiments and data. Only after her return did he manage to make space for a niece in his heart.

Now that his precious niece was suddenly dating, who knew how he’d react?

Hearing her grandfather’s warning, Jiang Li didn’t have the heart to tell him that Feng Qi had known about the relationship for quite some time already.

If she said that now, Grandpa would probably think his position in her heart didn’t measure up to Third Uncle’s—and he might even get a little jealous.

Yeah… better to keep quiet about that.

“Grandpa, do I really have to bring Tong Yi home tomorrow? Isn’t it a bit too soon?” Jiang Li couldn’t help but ask.

Old Master Feng chuckled, “It’s just a meal, not an engagement dinner. What’s too soon about that? Don’t overthink it.”

Jiang Li’s cheeks flushed. “Then I’ll listen to you, Grandpa.”

After hanging up, she got out of bed, slipped on her slippers, and ran to knock on the guest room door next door.

She figured Tong Yi was probably already asleep and expected to wait outside for a while. But to her surprise, she had barely knocked for ten seconds when he opened the door.

When the door opened, Tong Yi glanced at the figure standing there in her pajamas. His Adam’s apple moved involuntarily, and he could tell his voice turned low and husky. “Aren’t you the one with the model citizen bedtime routine? Why are you still up so late?”

The hallway’s air conditioning wasn’t on, and it was chilly. Jiang Li, standing barefoot in the corridor, gave him a gentle push. “Let’s talk inside.”

Tong Yi: “…”

Earlier, when she stretched her foot into his shirt while they watched a movie on the sofa, he already suspected Jiang Li was testing his self-control.

And now, here she was late at night, standing in his doorway in pajamas. Was this another test? Or…

Regardless of which, he had to let her in. It might be spring, but the nights were still chilly. If she stayed out there, she could easily catch a cold.

Once inside, Jiang Li realized just how bare the guest room was. Other than the bed, there wasn’t even a proper place to sit, so she walked over and sat down at the edge of the bed, then patted the spot beside her. “Come sit. Let’s talk properly.”

Tong Yi’s gaze darkened slightly. He hesitated for nearly ten seconds before walking over and sitting down beside her. “Did you have a nightmare and can’t sleep?”

Jiang Li immediately shook her head. “I was already asleep, but Grandpa called me. He asked me to bring you home tomorrow, so I came to tell you.”

Tong Yi blinked in surprise. “Your grandpa…”

“It was probably Eldest Brother who told him. But don’t worry, Grandpa didn’t object to us. He even asked me to bring you back for lunch.”

Tong Yi’s expression lit up with delight. “So that means… I’m officially meeting the family tomorrow?”

Jiang Li whispered, “It’s just a meal. You’ve eaten at our house before—it’s not that big of a deal.”

But Tong Yi clearly didn’t think so. “It’s different this time. Luckily, you told me in advance, so I have time to prepare gifts.”

Seeing how genuinely happy he was, Jiang Li didn’t have the heart to tease him. She said softly, “I’ll make a list now. Tomorrow we’ll go buy the gifts together and bring them home.”

Tong Yi responded immediately, “You know your family’s preferences way better than I do. But we don’t need to go in person—just make the list, I’ll add a few things, and have my assistant handle the shopping. Tomorrow, we just show up with everything.”

Jiang Li looked surprised. “Doesn’t your assistant need to sleep?”

Tong Yi grinned. “Of course he does. But as long as the pay’s right, he’ll be more than happy to take care of it for me.”

Since he put it that way, Jiang Li didn’t argue. She grabbed her phone and began writing the gift list.

Tong Yi quickly noticed that everything Jiang Li listed was inexpensive—if he really only brought those, it would be more symbolic than anything else.

After finalizing the list together and making a few adjustments, Tong Yi sent it off to his assistant to get everything ready.

With the gifts settled, Jiang Li started to feel sleepy again. She yawned and said, “It’s really late. I should go get some rest.”

Tong Yi grabbed her hand. “You’re just going to leave like that?”

Jiang Li blinked. “What else? Did we forget something?”
