Chapter 95 Part 2 – Have You Adopted by Third Uncle (II)
The group of family and one extra soon headed to the villa that Feng Qi had purchased and prepared for Jiang Li. When they arrived, Tong Yi, without hesitation, began helping with the luggage, acting as if he were part of the family. He noticed that the villa Third Master Feng had given to Jiang Xiao Li was indeed impressive. Although the property wasn’t large, the landscaping was beautifully done, and the interior was very well decorated.
After entering the villa, Jiang Li took a quick tour and couldn’t help but remark, “Third Uncle, the interior design here is very similar to the loft we live in. Did you specifically arrange for it to be like this?”
Feng Song nodded in agreement, “It does feel similar, especially the living room and study. It almost feels like we’re back at home.”
But their grandfather frowned and said, “I don’t see how it’s similar.”
Feng Bai explained, “Grandpa, the courtyard where you live has a much more traditional design, different from our loft in the north. I also think this place’s décor is very similar.”
Old Master Feng, expressionless, said, “You don’t have to explain it so clearly. I’m not senile.”
Seeing that her grandfather was a bit upset, Jiang Li quickly placated him, smiling, “Grandpa, did you notice the grape trellis outside? Doesn’t it remind you of the one in your courtyard?”
Feng Bai quickly added, “Actually, the trellis in our courtyard isn’t very si—… I—I mean, it’s not exactly the same as this one.”
Under Jiang Li’s death glare, Feng Bai quickly changed his words, realizing that otherwise, he’d end up offending both Grandpa and her.
Tong Yi, seeing the family so happy together, couldn’t resist chiming in, “I noticed that there are quite a few pear trees in the yard. Were they already here when the villa was purchased?”
Feng Qi gave Tong Yi an approving look, “I had them planted. Do you have any opinion about that?”
Jiang Li laughed, “His opinion doesn’t matter at all. As long as I like it, that’s what counts.”
Feng Qi nodded, “Yes, that’s true.”
Tong Yi: “…” Even though he was trying to please Third Master Feng, he ended up being targeted by both the uncle and niece. Such an injustice!
“Jiang Xiao Li, to be honest, I’m quite envious of you. Third Master Feng treats you so well, thinking of every little detail for you.” Tong Yi sighed with a bit of melancholy.
Jiang Li was stunned for a moment, then replied, “Well… you don’t have to be envious. Grandpa says you’re very good at investing. Whatever you want, you can buy it yourself.”
Feng Bai laughed. “Xiao Jiang Li, what are you talking about? Our big nephew is envious of you having family who care for you so much.”
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow, “But I’m just telling the truth. And besides, Big Nephew, while your family in China may not be reliable, your friends are actually pretty great.”
For example, herself—a friend who, despite being terrible at comforting people, was still trying her best to console him.
“I was just saying it casually, and yes, my friends are indeed great.” Tong Yi smiled. Jiang Xiao Li had once told him that he was the first friend she made after coming to Minjiang, and he had always remembered that.
“You prepared a house for Xiao Jiang Li, and a car too. Did you also arrange for a chef?” Old Master Feng glanced at his youngest son, who quickly replied: “Shouldn’t her grandfather handle that? I think the food at home suits Xiao Lizi’s tastebuds quite well. Why not make a small sacrifice and send your chef to her?”
The old master immediately said, “Why not? I’ll call the chef right now and have him come here to cook for Xiao Jiang Li from now on.”
Jiang Li quickly intervened, “Grandpa, I’m here to study, not to live in luxury. Don’t you think that might be a bit over the top?”
“You really don’t need a chef?” her grandfather asked.
Jiang Li nodded coquettishly, “Once school starts, I’ll be eating in the cafeteria most of the time. If you had the chef come here to cook for me, wouldn’t that waste his talent? So I really don’t need it, dear Grandpa.”
Hearing her call him ‘dear Grandpa,’ the old master finally let go of his earlier sulkiness, but he still cautioned, “Since you’re new here, you might find it hard to adjust. If you are not used to the local climate or have any issues with the food, make sure to tell your grandpa, understand?”
Jiang Li nodded immediately, “Of course! I’ll definitely tell you, Grandpa. After all, you’re the best grandpa in the universe!”
Feng Bai elbowed Feng Song and whispered, “Why do I feel like Grandpa is acting like a child now?”
Feng Song replied, “If you really think so, you could say it louder. Grandpa can’t hear if you whisper.”
Feng Bai: “…” What a good, helpful brother!
The old master noticed their interaction and raised an eyebrow, “What are you two whispering about?”
Feng Bai quickly spoke up, “Big Bro said that Third Uncle treats Xiao Jiang Li too well, and he’s really envious.”
Feng Qi turned to Feng Bai, “Are you envious too?”
Feng Bai hesitated for a few seconds before slowly nodding, “To be honest, yes, I am a bit envious.”
Feng Qi responded with a simple “Hmm,” and then said, “Xiao Lizi is on my household register, so of course I have to treat her well. If you’re that envious, you could consider being adopted into my household.”
“…” Feng Bai was speechless; How was he supposed to respond to that?!
However, he soon remembered the extra person here and quickly turned around, “Big Nephew, I think you could get adopted into Third Uncle’s household so he’d get you a car and a villa too. What do you think?”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea,” Jiang Li interjected.
Feng Bai was puzzled, “Don’t you think it’s a perfect suggestion?”
Jiang Li shook her head firmly. “He’s our Big Nephew now. If he really gets adopted by Uncle, what would I call him?” Tong Yi had always wished to be called big brother, but she preferred to be called aunt by him!
Tong Yi: “…” Jiang Xiao Li was correct—it wasn’t a good idea. If this had been three years ago, he might have agreed, even if it was just a joke, just to make Jiang Xiao Li call him ‘Big Brother.’ But now, he definitely didn’t want to be the kind of brother who was on the same household register as her.
Seeing that even Tong Yi was at a loss for words, Old Master Feng intervened with a smile, “Stop picking on Xiao Yi just because he has such a good temperament.”
Tong Yi quickly responded, “We’re all just joking, nothing serious.”
The old master shrugged, “Alright then, I suppose I was a meddling old man.”
Tong Yi rubbed his nose, unsure of how to respond.
After having lunch with the Fengs, Tong Yi no longer had any reason to stay. He politely bid farewell to Old Master Feng, saying that he needed to go to the campus to register.
The old master nodded and said, “Go ahead. Your campus isn’t far from here and you don’t have much luggage, so we won’t see you off.”
Then he looked at his own granddaughter and added, “Xiao Jiang Li has never traveled far from home before, and she might find it hard to adjust to university life at first. If you have time, could you keep an eye on her for me?”
Feng Bai quickly chimed in, “And if anyone tries to mess with Xiao Jiang Li, don’t hold back. Just go ahead and give them a good beating. If it causes any trouble, I’ll take the blame.”
Jiang Li sighed, “Third Brother, I’m already an adult.”
Feng Bai confidently replied, “Doesn’t matter if you’re an adult. Especially those creepy old farts who don’t know when to stop. They’re—”
“Watch your language,” his grandfather frowned.
Feng Bai quickly corrected himself, “Anyway, I’m just being cautious.”
Jiang Li huffed and turned to Feng Qi, “Uncle, Third Brother is being unreasonable. Can you please rein him in?”
Feng Qi hesitated slightly, “But your Third Brother is already an adult. If I meddle too much, won’t he think I’m being unreasonable?”
“…” Jiang Li had long realized that while her third uncle was very lenient with her, he was always very strict when it came to anything related to romance. Just like back in high school, when Qin Zheng often came to discuss olympiad problems with her—Third Brother insisted that they communicated through a group chat and also added him in. Back then, Third Uncle took on Third Brother’s side.
Jiang Li’s eyes darted around, and she turned to Feng Qi with a sly grin. “Uncle, I’ve noticed that Third Brother is dating someone. Shouldn’t we help him check her out?”
Feng Qi looked surprised. “It’s impressive enough that someone’s willing to date him. If we step in and scare the girl away, won’t your Third Brother end up an old bachelor? That wouldn’t be good, right?”
Feng Bai: “…” Isn’t this a bit rude? Sure, he started dating later than most, but he’s never lacked admirers!
This world was really getting ridiculous—Third Uncle did not hesitate to sacrifice him in order to amuse Xiao Jiang Li!
