Chapter 97 Part 2 – Gentle, Black-bellied, Mature, and Reliable Loyal Puppy (II)

When two attractive people walk together, they naturally draw attention. Noticing this, Tong Yi couldn’t help but ask, “Jiang Xiao Li, did anyone ask for your contact information today?”

“Yes, my new roommate is such a nice girl, and we immediately exchanged contact information.”

Tong Yi looked exasperated, “That’s not what I meant.”

“Then what are do you mean?” Jiang Li was puzzled.

After hesitating for a couple of seconds, Tong Yi asked again, “Did any guys ask for your contact information? Like one of the senior students welcoming you?”

Jiang Li shook her head, “No, a girl took care of my registration.”

Tong Yi nodded and then pretended to sigh, “When I was registering today, a girl was in charge and she asked for my contact information, but I refused.”

Jiang Li followed his lead and asked, “Why did you refuse?”

Tong Yi answered honestly, “The way she looked at me was too obvious—it was clear what she wanted, so I told her I have a girlfriend.”

“You have a girlfriend?” Jiang Li was slightly surprised. Is Tong Yi following in Third Brother’s footsteps and secretly finding himself a girlfriend?

Tong Yi lowered his eyes and looked at her, “That was just an excuse to turn her down, understand? I used the excuse so if the girl kept pursuing me after knowing I supposedly have a girlfriend, I wouldn’t have to be polite about it anymore.” If someone kept pursuing him even after knowing he had a girlfriend, it would show that their character was questionable, so he wouldn’t need to be a gentleman either.

Jiang Li pondered for a few seconds and commented honestly, “That approach has its flaws too.”

“What flaws?”

“Think about it—what if in the future you meet a girl you like, but she mistakenly thinks you already have a girlfriend? Wouldn’t that be a problem?” She patiently explained.

“If I meet a girl I like, I’ll immediately tell her that saying I had a girlfriend was just an excuse to turn people down. How could she possibly misunderstand?” Tong Yi clicked his tongue. At the same time, he felt his heart race—would Jiang Xiao Li finally catch the hint?

To be completely honest, he wasn’t sure if he wanted her to understand or not. If she understood, it would mean she was starting to realize his feelings, and that would make him happy. But if she understood and didn’t feel the same way, then maybe it was better if she didn’t get it yet.

Jiang Li, however, didn’t overthink it. She looked at Tong Yi seriously and said, “But liking someone doesn’t always happen at first sight. It can also develop over time. If you realize your feelings later, but she already likes someone else, wouldn’t that be unfortunate for you?”

Seeing her so earnest, Tong Yi felt a bit helpless and finally said, “Don’t worry, I’m not that oblivious.”

Jiang Li pouted, “You’ll regret ignoring the advice of your elder.”

Tong Yi lowered his eyes and looked at her, “You’re two years younger than me—how are you an elder?”

Jiang Li confidently replied, “I’m your aunt, so of course I’m an elder.”

Tong Yi: “…”

Fine—as long as Jiang Xiao Li is happy, she can call herself whatever she likes! He just wondered how long it would take before she’d be willing to call him ‘big brother’ instead.

Jiang Li took Tong Yi to the cafeteria for dinner, and they were surprised to find a television playing a drama. A few of the middle-aged staff were gathered around the TV, watching intently.

As Jiang Li ate, she chatted with Tong Yi, but she couldn’t help overhearing the dialogue from the drama. She quietly commented, “The female lead is so naïve. The guy is clearly a two-timing jerk, yet she keeps making excuses for him, blaming everything on the green tea girl.”

Tong Yi hadn’t been paying attention to the drama, so he asked curiously, “What’s a ‘green tea girl’?”

Jiang Li thought for a moment and explained, “It’s someone who seems innocent and harmless on the surface but is actually very manipulative. When it’s a girl, we call her a ‘green tea girl,’ and when it’s a guy, we call him a ‘green tea guy.’ Either way, they’re not good people.”

Tong Yi rubbed his thumb against his index finger, pondering for a few seconds before confirming, “So you don’t like green tea types?”

Jiang Li nodded without hesitation, “Of course not. I prefer people who are straightforward and honest, not those who are two-faced or passive-aggressive.”

“What kind of ma—… male lead do you like, then?” He started getting nervous.

Jiang Li thought back to a novel she had recently read with her second aunt and replied, “The gentle but secretly black-bellied type—someone who can cunningly get rid of all rivals.”

Tong Yi was perplexed. “But you said you don’t like green tea types. How can you like someone who looks gentle but actually cunning?”

“That’s not a contradiction,” Jiang Li answered between bites. “The kind of male lead I’m talking about only loves the female lead, whereas a green tea type is someone who, despite knowing someone already has a boyfriend or girlfriend, still tries to get close to them. There is a stark contrast between the two types. And if the guy can be mature and reliable, that’s even better.”

Tong Yi inexplicably felt relieved. “I think you’re absolutely right. I feel the same way.” Thankfully, he wasn’t what Jiang Xiao Li would consider a green tea guy!

As for the gentle but black-bellied traits she mentioned, he could work on those. Being mature and reliable could also be learned. Since Jiang Xiao Li liked those qualities, he definitely should acquire them.

Jiang Li didn’t notice that Tong Yi had fallen into deep thought and continued eating while watching the drama on the TV. When a younger, handsome, and caring supporting character appeared next to the female lead, she immediately thought that the female lead should kick the male lead to the curb and choose this cute loyal puppy instead.

After finishing their meal, the two left the cafeteria. After parting ways with Tong Yi, Jiang Li headed straight back to her dorm. But when she opened the door, she sensed that something was off.

By then, the other two roommates had arrived. One was busy making her bed, while the other was standing in front of Wen Wan with a haughty look on her.

Next to the haughty-looking girl stood a middle-aged couple who appeared to be her parents. Wen Wan seemed intimidated but determined not to back down, even though she was clearly outnumbered and losing momentum.

When Jiang Li entered, the middle-aged woman’s eyes lit up. She approached Jiang Li with a soft tone and said, “You’re also my daughter’s roommate, right? Can you help us sort this out? Our Rongrong has been sleeping in this spot all through high school and is already used to it. We asked this girl to switch beds, but she refuses. Why is she deliberately making things difficult for a fellow roommate, don’t you agree?”

“…” Jiang Li was speechless. On the first day of campus life, she unexpectedly met some weird parents. Seemed like her dorm life would be quite ‘colorful’—children raised by such weird parents tended to be… peculiar, too.

Slowly exhaling, Jiang Li said with a deadpan tone: “We have only assigned room numbers while beds are on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want a specific bed, you should come earlier.”

The middle-aged woman’s eyes widened in disbelief. “How can you say that? Our Rongrong is already accustomed to this bed. Can’t you be a little more understanding?”

Jiang Li didn’t want to drag out the conversation. “Then you should talk to the dorm supervisor. Maybe she can arrange a VIP single room just for your daughter. If the supervisor is in a good mood, she might agree to your request.”

The girl named Rongrong finally turned her attention to Jiang Li. When she saw Jiang Li’s face, she frowned a bit. “I was just discussing the bed situation with Wen Wan. Was it necessary for you to be so sarcastic?”

Rongrong’s voice had a slight whine to it, which gave off an odd impression.

Jiang Li was not in the mood for argument, so she turned to Wen Wan and asked, “Do you want to exchange beds with her?”

Wen Wan shook her head and quietly said, “Not at all.” She might seem soft-spoken, but she wasn’t a pushover. This new roommate was simply too much.

When the family ‘asked’ her to change beds, the other roommate had remained silent the entire time, likely not wanting to get involved in the conflict. Fortunately, Jiang Li returned, or else she would have been fighting this battle alone and might have eventually given in to Rongrong’s demand.
