Extra 1 Part 1 – If Only He Were My Real Brother (I)
Extra 1 Part 1 – If Only He Were My Real Brother (I)
Xiao Lizi was having a boyfried, and even brought that brat home. Feng Qi was, to say the least, not in a good mood.
After carrying his drunk niece back to her room and hearing her mention “another Jiang Li,” Feng Qi assumed she still hadn’t gotten over the trauma from the past.
She had always shown only her strong side, leading him to believe she truly didn’t care about the Jiang family anymore. But now, hearing her speak her heart while intoxicated, he finally realized—she had a vulnerable side too.
Back in his own room, Feng Qi immediately contacted Assistant Kong, instructing him to cause trouble for Jiang Huai.
If Xiao Lizi still hadn’t escaped the shadow of the past, how could Jiang Huai—the one who started it all—deserve to live freely under the sun?
After ending the call, Feng Qi felt heavy dizziness. He went to the bathroom to wash up, changed into pajamas, and lay down on the bed.
He woke up around dusk. After getting dressed, the first thing he did was head toward his father’s courtyard.
Though he wasn’t pleased with his niece’s boyfriend, if it had been another brat, he probably would’ve been even less satisfied. So he decided to just bear with it.
Just as he was about to leave after getting dressed, his phone rang. Reaching for it, he frowned in confusion.
Why is it using the default ringtone?
He had used the default ringtone in the past, but Jiang Li didn’t like it. She had changed it for him and even bought him a phone case.
But now the phone was bare, and for that reason, looked extremely ugly.
Could it be that he had gotten drunk too, reverted the ringtone, and removed the case?
Suspicious, Feng Qi picked up the call. Seeing that it was his father, he answered despite his doubts.
Old Master Feng’s voice came through the phone, “You finally come home for once, and now you’re holed up in your room? Xiao Bai brought his girlfriend home for the first time, and as his uncle, you’re just going to skip out? Is that appropriate?”
Feng Qi: “…”
Feng Bai brought his girlfriend home?
In that instant, Feng Qi felt something was very wrong.
He thought of some sci-fi movie scenarios and couldn’t help but glance at his phone screen. Seeing that the date was indeed today, he let out a small sigh of relief.
Leaving his room, he headed downstairs. But the moment he saw the greenery in the courtyard, his brow furrowed.
Before Xiao Lizi returned to the Feng family, the courtyard had been filled with all sorts of random green plants. Later, he had them all removed and replaced with young pear trees.
Over the years, those saplings had grown steadily. Xiao Lizi had just been looking forward to them blooming and bearing fruit not long ago. But now…
Feng Qi pinched his arm. The sharp pain confirmed this wasn’t a dream.
But if not a dream, then what was this?
He walked quickly to the main courtyard, where the whole family was chatting cheerfully.
Among them, there was no Jiang Li. No Tong Yi either. But there was an unfamiliar face. A girl, sitting beside Feng Bai, looking a little shy.
When Feng Qi appeared, Feng Bai’s eyes lit up. He stood and said with a smile, “Third Uncle, this is my girlfriend Zhong Yue, the one I told you about. You can just call her Yueyue.”
Feng Qi’s mind was in a total mess. Not a single word of what Feng Bai said registered.
There was only one question swirling in his head: Where is Xiao Lizi?
Naturally, his family noticed his abnormal state. Old Master Feng asked with a puzzled expression, “A’Qi, are you feeling unwell?”
Feng Qi snapped back to himself instantly. He looked at his father and asked slowly, “Where’s Xiao Lizi?”
Old Master Feng looked confused. “Xiao Lizi? Who?”
Now Feng Qi completely panicked. His father would never joke like this. And even if this were some sort of elaborate prank, Feng Bai—never a good actor—would’ve cracked under pressure.
The old ringtone, the phone without its case, the pear trees that had disappeared from the garden, and the expressions of his family members…
Everything pointed to one terrifying conclusion: his niece had vanished.
She had disappeared not only from his life, but from everyone’s memory.
In this entire household, he alone still remembered her.
Feng Qi took two steps back and left the main courtyard without looking back. Old Master Feng called his name several times, but he didn’t respond.
At that moment, Feng Bai didn’t have time to worry about Feng Qi’s strange behavior. He held Zhong Yue’s hand tightly and softly reassured her, “My third uncle has always had a strange temper. He probably just suddenly remembered something. He didn’t mean to be rude.”
Old Master Feng came to his senses and turned his gaze to Zhong Yue with a kindly smile. “That kid only has eyes for his lab. You don’t have to pay him any mind.”
Professor Tan immediately added, “Yueyue, don’t overthink it. A’Qi rarely comes home anyway, so the chances of you two crossing paths again are slim.”
After being comforted by both her boyfriend and his family, the bit of unease in Zhong Yue’s heart quickly faded. She chose to change the topic, and soon the whole room returned to cheerful conversation.
…
After leaving the main courtyard, Feng Qi returned to the north attic. He walked to the room where Jiang Li used to stay and pushed open the door, only to find it sparsely furnished—clearly an unused, uninhabited space.
After standing there in silence for a long time, Feng Qi returned to his own bedroom and called Assistant Kong.
“Four years ago, did Jiang Huai adopt a girl from an orphanage?” Feng Qi’s voice trembled slightly.
In that moment, he remembered the “other Jiang Li” that Xiao Lizi had mentioned when she was drunk—the Jiang Li who had been forced by the Jiang family to donate her kidney.
If Xiao Lizi had been taken back by Jiang Huai but never returned to the Feng family… then what kind of life had she been living these past four years?
Judging by the timeline, Jiang Ruo’s illness should have already progressed. Yet he had failed to bring Xiao Lizi home…
Feng Qi didn’t dare to think any further, but those drunken words of hers kept echoing in his mind.
Upon hearing his question, Assistant Kong replied honestly, “Four years ago, the Jiang family did adopt a girl from the orphanage. But… I heard some people say that the girl might actually be Jiang Huai’s illegitimate daughter.”
Feng Qi instantly erupted. “Nonsense!”
Assistant Kong didn’t understand why his boss suddenly got so angry. He had only stated what people were saying, really!
Quite a few people in their circles knew that Jiang Huai had brought home an illegitimate daughter. But since the Feng and Jiang families had long cut ties, and Feng Qi himself never paid attention to the Jiang daughter’s affairs, he naturally didn’t know.
As for the rest, most were politically savvy enough not to bring up such scandals in front of the Feng family.
Initially, everyone had just been waiting to see the Jiang family make a fool of themselves.
But Jiang Huai didn’t seem to care much about that illegitimate daughter. After bringing her home, he only gave her enough so she lacked nothing, but he didn’t deliberately nurture or educate her. After a few years, people had nearly forgotten the matter altogether.
Assistant Kong couldn’t understand why Feng Qi was suddenly taking an interest in this now. It didn’t seem like he was standing up for his sister either.
Feng Qi clenched his fists. “I want to know everything about that girl. Start investigating right now. I want answers tonight.”
Assistant Kong responded at once, “Understood, Third Master. I’ll get someone on it immediately.”
He didn’t understand what his boss was up to, but he did know one thing: Third Master Feng never did anything meaningless. If he gave an order, it must have a purpose. His job was simply to follow orders.
