Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1203: The True Nature

Chapter 1203: The True Nature

The three Psychics exchanged glances.

"A rogue Arcanist…" Mica said softly.

"Someone hiding here, using spells to scare people off..."

Still, they could tell that the quality of the talismans being used wasn't that great. The person must be a Fourth-Class Arcanist like them, but he had probably learned by himself, unlike them…

Just like that, they pressed deeper into the townhouse. As they moved, the wooden floor even started creaking beneath their steps.

"He's here…" Zhang Wei muttered after the person entered his Magic Zone…

In the back room, they found him…

A man slumped against the wall with his worn-out robes that was torn, and bloodied. His breathing was shallow, and his hands trembled as he clutched a half-burned talisman.

He was awake and aware of their presence.

Liang Chen stepped forward cautiously. "He's injured. But look at the item he's holding and the scattered wards around him… I guess he set all this up to keep people away while he recovered."

The man's eyes opened… Seeing that he was only facing children, he heaved a sigh of relief…

"Stay back… or you'll all get hurt." The man said.

The three wryly smiled as they didn't think that the man could harm them.

As Psychic Arts Practitioners, they already had an idea about his situation and how he was thinking.

Zhang Wei raised a hand calmly. He knew how to handle this matter like a true Psychic.

"We're not here to harm you. We're Arcanists from the Academy. You've caused panic in this district. Why are you here?"

The man coughed as he heard that they were students… His voice was hoarse due to the lack of food and drinks, but he replied...

"I… was ambushed by assassins. I barely escaped. Now go... I will leave once I recover. I don't want to hurt people like you."

Unfortunately, that wouldn't resolve their mission. So the three students had to find a solution. They could hand him over to the authorities, or perhaps, they could help the man recover to send him away.

In any case, they knew that no humans had died from his wards. Based on their observation, the man was really just trying to scare away people to avoid getting found.

Mica knelt beside him…

"You've frightened the entire district. People thought Evil Spirits were attacking. If you needed help, you should have sought the Authorities. However, since you didn't, you're probably a criminal, right? You must compensate the merchant who had lost a lot of money because of your prank…"

He shook his head weakly. "I'm not a criminal… but I'll be found by my enemies if I ask for their help. So I can't get involved with authorities."

The man replied sincerely.

To be honest, he was curious why he was talking to these three young students so seriously.

He wasn't the type of person to reveal everything in front of strangers. However, for some reason, he was so inclined to tell them what his situation was!

'This… What's going on?'

He wanted to scare these students away, but instead, it felt like he was a patient being counseled by these three.

Liang Chen crossed his arms. "So you chose to terrify civilians instead? That's reckless."

Zhang Wei sighed. "Regardless, we can't leave him here. He needs treatment. And the district needs to know the truth… that this wasn't Evil Spirits, but a wounded Arcanist hiding among them while scaring people off."

The man lowered his gaze. He somewhat felt ashamed of what he'd done.

Soon, the three students finished interviewing him, and during all this time, he had revealed everything he knew.

The man's name was Keith, and he was actually from Solstice Kingdom… He was here in Shadow Domain's Clovis City for a simple reason, to just keep up with the events within this small nation. He had no missions like sabotaging Airships or Academy Supplies.

He was only here to report even the trivial things happening in the Shadow Domain… It was to the point that it was hard to consider him a spy since his reports could also be seen in the local newspapers available to everyone.

"I guess they just want to keep updated?"

"Hmm… It's not that surprising. Information is crucial."

"But it's not like it's prohibited to share local news to others."

"Mhmm… That's true."

The three students deliberated. After all, this was their first time handling such a matter.

"H-hey… You're not going to hand me over to the Authorities, right? I didn't mean harm. I only needed time to heal. I'm barely earning here, but I can give you something…"

Mica stood, looking at her companions.

"Should we report this to Professor Jamie. He'll decide what to do with him… But for now, let's stabilize his condition."

Liang Chen grumbled but nodded. "Fine. At least this explains the disturbances."

However, Zhang Wei shook his head.

"No need to make this matter complicated. Let's just use this person. Aside from his unknown enemies, no one knows about him in the city anyway."

As he said this, Mica and Liang smiled… They had been suppressing their true nature for months already. It seemed that they could finally let it out.

Well, during all this time, the three of them had already subtly controlled this person's mind… He didn't know it yet, but he would never leave this city until they allowed him to do so.

It wasn't a specific Psychic Art, but it was simply the power of their Mental Energy invading someone else's mind.

Seeing no objection from the two, Zhang Wei placed a hand on the man's shoulder, channeling a faint Mind Shock to clear the lingering confusion clouding his thoughts.

"Rest. You're safe now. But you'll have to answer for the panic you caused."

As Zhang Wei said with a cruel smile, before Keith's eyes turned blank…

He would never be seen again.

After about half an hour, the merchant who had anxiously waited outside finally felt relieved after seeing them…

He then rushed forward to meet them. "Well? Did you find the Spirits?"
