Chapter 1244: The Flames and Grimoire
Chapter 1244: The Flames and Grimoire
As soon as the announcement was made, the students immediately rushed to the center, gathering ingredients.
Their eyes scanned the piles, and all of them were moving quickly, inspecting the ingredients carefully. After all, they had to find the ones with the best quality while also ensuring that they were the correct ones!
Gus examined a stalk of grass. His Eternal Whiteflame appeared faintly as he tested its aura. He then realized what it was, so he just put it aside...
Unfortunately, it was the Ghost Grass as his flame recognized the poisonous aura it had.
Nolan, on the other hand, focused on the lotus petals, his Azure Frostfire glowed softly as he checked their purity. He separated the True Lotus from the False Lotus with ease since his flame was actually revealing the subtle differences.
This was the fastest method he could think of. After all, even if he could analyze these ingredients without using his fire, it would take some time. Since he had the advantage of the Azure Frostfire, he might as well utilize it to the fullest.
"This one..." Layla muttered as she grabbed the roots, her Crimson Pyre was also triggered as she tested their resilience. The Vitalroot glowed faintly under her flame, while the Ashroot crumbled instantly. It wasn’t a prohibited method anyway.
Just like that, the crowd watched in silence, fascinated by the precision and skill of the alchemists.
But the challenge was far from over.
Once the ingredients were gathered, the students had to refine them, combining herbs and minerals into a cohesive mixture.
The coal provided heat, but the true refinement came from their flames.
Gus’s Eternal Whiteflame burned steadily, ensuring the mixture remained balanced.
Nolan’s Azure Frostfire purified the brew, removing impurities and enhancing clarity.
Layla’s Crimson Pyre surged, breaking down the tougher ingredients and infusing raw strength into the pill.
Together, their flames danced, complementing one another.
Still, Vale noticed that other academies struggled. Some students mistook Ghost Grass for Spirit Grass, ruining their mixtures. Others failed to control their flames, burning ingredients to ash. A few selected poor‑quality materials, weakening their pills before they were even formed.
’This is a lot harder than I thought.’ Vale mused as he watched silently.
He actually liked this better since this was not about combat. It was about discipline, knowledge, and mastery. And his students were excelling thanks to the Fire Stones they were able to obtain with the help of the Arcane Bureau.
The Spirit Restoration Pill itself was not easy to create. It required balance, purity, and proper usage of flame. But Gus, Nolan, and Layla worked without any issue...
Then, Vale finally smiled as soon as he confirmed that the three students were already finishing their creations.
He stayed for some more time, and as soon as the pills began to take shape, Vale already knew that his students would do just fine...
Just like that, he finally left the place.
This time, he visited the grand hall of the Summoning Arts competition.
Vale stepped into the hall, unnoticed by mortals but felt by Immortals. His gaze swept across the competitors. Here, it was not about brute strength or martial discipline. It was about contracts, bonds, and the mastery of summoning with their grimoire!
Just like all the other top academies, the Marshall Academy had sent three students to represent them.
The first was Cecilia, a young summoner that Vale helped...
Her original grimoire had been unimpressive, barely capable of summoning minor creatures. Her clan had dismissed her, unwilling to invest resources in someone whose grimoire seemed destined for mediocrity.
But Vale had seen something others overlooked... her potential. He had conducted a rare Grimoire Reelection, a ritual that allowed her to shed her old grimoire and bond with a new one. Through his intervention, Cecilia had received not only a stronger grimoire but also a powerful Spirit Beast bound to it... or at the very least, Vale bound to it.
The second was Walrus. His grimoire specialized in elemental familiars like fire sprites, water wisps, and stone guardians. Individually, they were not overwhelming, but Darius excelled at coordination.
The third was Nel. Her grimoire was attuned to avian summons, particularly hawks and ravens. Though not as destructive as other grimoires, her creatures excelled in reconnaissance, speed, and precision strikes..
Together, Cecilia, Walrus, and Nel, formed Marshall Academy’s summoning team.
For now, Vale’s eyes lingered on Cecilia. He wanted to see how far she had come since the reelection.
Thankfully, he arrived on time!
The announcer spoke as the next battle actually involved Cecilia!
"Next duel. Cecilia of Marshall Academy versus Neja of Lakrine Academy!"
The crowd stirred. Lakrine Academy was known for its eccentric summoners, and Neja was no exception.
His grimoire was unusual. Instead of summoning beasts or spirits, it manifested flying swords!
They were spectral blades that hovered in the air and could move and slash at his command.
’Interesting...’ Vale muttered as he saw the flying swords that came out of the grimoire...
It was rare, certainly, but not overwhelmingly powerful in his opinion. Still, its unpredictability made Neja a dangerous opponent.
Cecilia’s grimoire, on the other hand, released a Spirit Beast...
It was the Spirit Beast that Vale had given to her, but it was a wolf-like creature...
The crowd gasped. Spirit Beasts were definitely rare, and few students possessed them.
Still, Neja smirked. His grimoire’s three spectral swords glowed further, and they started hovering around him like guardians.
With a flick of his hand, they shot forward, slicing through the air toward Cecilia!
However, her Spirit Beast leapt, intercepting the blades.
Clank! Clank! Clank!
The swords were deflected, but Neja summoned more. His grimoire seemed to possess dozens of different blades!
Soon, eight diverse blades circled Cecilia, darting in unpredictable patterns. There was a scimitar, an axe, a sword, a spear, and others.
Vale watched closely as he was also unsure about Cecilia’s combat skills. He only knew that her Talent with the Grimoire was incredible...
’She’s not panicking. Good.’ Vale mused as he finally saw Cecilia being forced to release the Spirit Beast he had gifted!
