Chapter 1249: Skye
Chapter 1249: Skye
The spear or shaft pierced straight through the creature's shoulder before exploding into fragments of light that burned against its shadowy flesh.
The Imp shrieked before stumbling backward as its wound smoked and sizzled on its body… It was definitely a painful experience.
However, it didn't retaliate and only looked at Galatea with a cold gaze.
If it could fight back, it would definitely devour her!
Still, the crowd gasped in shock… the damage was far greater than expected from a student spell.
"Radiant Spear… she pierced it clean through!" someone shouted from the stands as they recognized the spell.
"Is that really Radiant Spear? Must be in advanced mastery already. That looks powerful." A student from another Academy added, as he knew how difficult it was to injure the Imp.
The judges leaned forward, noting the heavy injury…
After all, they had placed a special thin barrier on the imp, and it was the one allowing them to know how much damage it had received.
"High affinity," one of them declared.
Vale nodded after hearing this.
'Good. She chose a spell with direct impact. Something that could truly injure corruption. That's exactly what we needed to see.'
After a few moments, it was finally Irene's turn.
She stepped forward calmly as she lifted it high. Unlike Galatea's piercing strike, Irene's approach was broader, meant to engulf the Imp in pure radiance.
Her voice rang out, steady and resolute, as she invoked Holy Light.
Whom~
A beam of brilliance descended from above, enveloping the Imp in a pillar of light once again… Its movements grew sluggish, as if the radiance was weighing down its very existence.
The creature roared and started thrashing violently as its flesh was scorched.
However, it couldn't do anything other than wait for the instructions from the masters.
Soon, smoke rose from its body, and cracks of light spread across its chest and arms, forcing the Imp scream in pain...
The crowd gasped at the sight.
"That's Holy Light!" someone shouted.
"It's burning through the Imp's defenses!" another added, astonished at how much damage the spell inflicted.
"Look at the glow… it's suppressing the corruption itself!" a professor murmured as he got to see how the spells work.
The judges then carefully observed the damage. The thin barrier surrounding the Imp shimmered, revealing the extent of the injury.
"Impressive… her affinity is very high," one judge remarked.
Another nodded. "Close to Galatea's strike. The resonance of her light is strong."
Soon, the audience erupted in cheers, clapping and shouting in excitement. Irene finally lowered her staff and bowed gracefully before stepping back.
Her score was close to Galatea's, and together, the two had shown that Marshall Academy's Holy Arts practitioners were not to be underestimated.
Soon, the announcer's voice carried across the hall.
"Next… Skye of Marshall Academy!"
The crowd leaned forward, anticipation thick in the air. After Galatea's piercing spear and Irene's overwhelming radiance, everyone wanted to see what the third Marshall student would do.
After all, Skye had scored 50 points in the first test a while ago!
Everyone was expecting to see something good from her!
Skye walked calmly to the center. Her steps were unhurried as if she was assessing the Imp in front of her…
Once again, she carried no staff, no ornate relic. Her hands were bare.
To the audience, she looked almost fragile compared to the towering Imp that materialized before her.
The creature then growled as if it was about to pounce...
Its presence was certainly oppressive, even restrained by the judges' barrier.
"Alright… I'm ready."
Skye raised her hand slowly.
Her aura was subtle, but as she started releasing the spell, the crowd went silent…
She just invoked Sanctified Pulse.
The spell did not burst outward like Galatea's spear or descend like Irene's beam.
Instead, it erupted from within the Imp itself. A shockwave of holy energy detonated inside the creature's chest, forcing its body to convulse violently.
Boom!
The Imp screamed, its roar echoing through the hall as cracks of light tore across its body.
Soon, flames sputtered to protect itself, but it was replaced by searing brilliance that spread like veins of molten gold.
The crowd gasped, some rising to their feet as they recognized the spell.
"She's tearing it apart from the inside!"
"That's not just damage… she's killing it!"
"Unbelievable… how can a student cast something like that?"
The Imp staggered with its knees buckling.
For a moment, it looked as though it might collapse entirely. But the barrier shimmered furiously, recording the damage.
The judges exchanged stunned glances. "Maximum damage recorded," one announced.
"Her affinity is far beyond the others."
The hall erupted in chaos.
"She nearly destroyed the Imp!"
"Marshall Academy again?!"
"How is this possible?"
Professors from rival academies finally realized the huge difference that their academies had…
Vale's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
'Yes… Skye has surpassed them all. A Homunculus achieving such affinity… extraordinary.'
Meanwhile, Skye lowered her hand… Her expression was unchanged as she knew that this would be the result of her performance…
She bowed lightly, then stepped back, leaving the Imp trembling and scorched, its body still glowing faintly from the holy shockwave.
The next students were called, but their performances were pitiful in comparison.
From Radiant Dawn Academy, a boy invoked Sacred Light Wave. The spell struck the Imp, leaving only shallow burns. The judges noted it as minor damage.
Celestine Holy Academy's representative used Divine Prayer. The glow was soft, barely scratching the creature. The score was low.
Golden Cross Academy followed with Blessed Radiance. The barrier shimmered faintly, recording only minimal damage.
Each attempt seemed weaker than the last. The audience grew restless, murmuring in disappointment. After Skye's devastating strike, everything else felt insignificant… It felt similar to the previous test!
Finally, the announcer declared the end of the second test as the Imps dissolved into smoke…
"The Affinity Trial is complete!"
Then, it was the start of the final trial for the Holy Arts Students!
