Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy

Chapter 1293: Overwhelmed

Chapter 1293: Overwhelmed

The news of the four captured Dawnblades members reached the members of the organization in Atrium City sooner than the Order of the Sky Sword expected.

The moment Ruth learned what had happened, she immediately gathered several of the organization’s elite members.

There were eight of them in total.

All eight had awakened the same Arcane Path.

Dark Arts.

They were among the Dawnblades’ most capable members when it came to infiltration, concealment, and nighttime operations. Unlike ordinary adventurers, they had learned how to manipulate shadows and darkness in ways that the people of the Valor Realm had never seen before.

Their leader was a young man named Timothy.

He stood at the front of the group, dressed in a dark cloak that covered most of his body. A black mask concealed his face, leaving only his eyes visible.

The other seven were dressed similarly.

Of course, none of them carried the insignia of the Dawnblades.

Their equipment had also been deliberately chosen to avoid revealing where they came from.

Ruth had given them a simple order.

“Bring them back and try not to kill anyone just yet…”

Timothy nodded as the eight members looked at each other.

They understood what Ruth meant.

The Order of the Sky Sword had captured their comrades, but Ruth didn’t want the Dawnblades turning the situation into an open conflict.

They were not going to kill anyone. They weren’t even supposed to seriously injure anyone.

Their objective was simply to rescue Gar, Mira, Holden, and Hera and return before the Order could figure out who had done it.

Timothy looked toward the night sky, and several bats were flying above the city.

They circled once before suddenly changing direction.

Timothy knew about their mysterious presence… Though he wasn’t sure where they came from, these bats were their most intelligent information gatherer.

“Let’s go.”

The eight moved.

They disappeared into the darkness almost instantly.

Their movements were so quiet that even ordinary guards standing nearby failed to notice them.

Meanwhile, the bats continued flying ahead.

Every few moments, one of them would descend toward a particular street before flying forward again.

Timothy followed their movements carefully.

“Keep following the bats.”

The others nodded.

They didn’t ask how the bats knew where to go.

They had already been told that they would have a guide.

And Timothy had learned not to question the strange methods used by the higher-ups of the Dawnblades.

The group eventually reached the outskirts of the city.

A large stone building stood there, surrounded by guards.

Timothy stopped on a nearby rooftop and he stared at the building.

“This is it.”

One of the masked members looked around.

“There are too many.”

Timothy nodded.

The Order had clearly anticipated an attempt to rescue the prisoners.

Several knights were stationed outside the building, while others patrolled the surrounding streets.

More importantly, Timothy could sense several powerful individuals inside.

The four captured Dawnblades members were being heavily guarded.

Timothy’s eyes narrowed.

“Then we don’t fight them.”

He raised one hand.

Darkness slowly spread across his palm.

“We go through them without being seen.”

The eight members moved simultaneously as their bodies dissolved into the shadows.

They didn’t become completely invisible.

Instead, their presence seemed to disappear into the surrounding darkness.

One of the guards walked directly past Timothy, and he never noticed anything!

The masked group slipped through the first line of guards and entered the building.

Inside, the security was even tighter.

Knights stood in every corridor as some were talking quietly, while others were standing beside doors.

Timothy waited patiently as he didn’t rush their rescue mission.

He watched their movements and waited for the right moment.

A knight turned his head.

Timothy moved.

A thin layer of darkness covered his body as he passed behind the knight.

One of his companions followed… Then another.

Within a few seconds, all eight had crossed the corridor without being noticed.

They continued deeper into the building.

The bats remained above them, occasionally appearing through the windows before flying onward.

Eventually, they reached a large underground chamber.

Timothy stopped.

He could sense four familiar presences behind the reinforced door…

They were Gar, Mira, Holden, and Hera.

“Found them.”

One of the masked members whispered.

Timothy examined the door.

There were several traps placed on it…

Breaking them would alert the knights, so he didn’t.

Instead, he placed his hand against the door.

Darkness spread from his palm.

The traps soon started disabling themselves.

The shadows slowly crawled through the gaps between them, and a few seconds later, the traps malfunctioned…

Click.

The door opened.

Inside, the four captured adventurers immediately looked toward the entrance.

Gar’s eyes widened.

“Who are you?”

Timothy raised a finger to his mask.

“Quiet.”

Mira immediately stood.

“Are you from the Dawnblades?”

Timothy didn’t answer.

Instead, he walked toward them and produced four small objects from his cloak.

“Put these on.”

Gar looked at the objects.

They were simple black masks.

He immediately understood.

“We’re getting out?”

Timothy nodded.

“Yes.”

Hera glanced toward the door.

“How?”

Timothy smiled beneath his mask…

“Walk.”

The four quickly put on the masks as they realized that they would experience another mystical thing today.

The eight Dark Arts users surrounded them, and in just a few moments, the entire group disappeared into darkness.

***

Outside the chamber, nothing had changed.

The knights continued standing guard.

None of them realized that the prisoners were no longer inside!

Timothy led the group through the corridors…

This time, however, moving unnoticed was considerably harder as there were more knights around. Some of them were even actively checking the prison area.

Timothy raised his hand… Then, everyone stopped.

A group of knights approached from the opposite direction.

There was nowhere to hide.

Timothy glanced toward the shadows beside the wall.

Then he made a decision.

“Dark Veil.”

The surrounding darkness suddenly became much deeper.

The entire corridor was covered in a strange black mist and the knights immediately stopped.

“What is this?”

“I can’t see!”

“Stay together!”

Their voices echoed through the darkness.

Timothy and the others moved.

They passed through the confused knights without attacking them.

One knight suddenly swung his sword.

Timothy saw it and swiftly evaded… Just like that, the blade passed inches from his mask.

He then grabbed the knight’s wrist, redirected the sword, and gently pushed him against the wall.

Thud!

The knight lost consciousness from the impact.

Still, Timothy caught him before he fell.

“Don’t hurt them… The Young Miss will scold us.”

The other members nodded.

They continued moving and whenever a knight blocked their path, they used darkness to confuse, conceal, or temporarily restrain them.

Not a single knight was killed.

Not even seriously injured.

Yet the Order’s entire defensive formation slowly began falling apart!
