Chapter 1307: Terrifying Tower
Chapter 1307: Terrifying Tower
“What happened?”
Yelena looked up through the window…
The driver didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he pointed toward the western horizon.
Everyone inside the carriage turned toward the window.
The moment they saw it, the carriage stopped completely…
A massive black tower dominated the landscape. It was so tall that its upper section disappeared into the haze above the city.
Dark mist surrounded its foundation, while faint black light could be seen between the ancient runes covering its walls.
For several seconds, they were silent…
Mikhail then rubbed his eyes and spoke once more…
“What in the name of the Radiant Covenant is that?”
Yelena slowly stepped out of the carriage as she wanted to have a clearer view of it.
Her eyes remained fixed on the tower.
“I don’t know.”
That answer immediately made the other priests uncomfortable.
Yelena was a High Priestess… She had also registered as an Adventurer, was considered Platinum-ranked, and had traveled across half the continent and seen countless magical structures.
Yet she had never seen anything like this.
Mikhail couldn’t help but frown…
“Can you sense its energy?”
Yelena closed her eyes.
A faint golden glow appeared around her pupils.
She carefully extended her senses toward the tower.
A few seconds later, her expression changed.
“It’s Dark Energy. It’s definitely not a normal sorcerer…”
“How much Dark Energy?”
Yelena opened her eyes.
“Too much.”
Mikhail’s expression became serious.
“Is it demonic?”
“I don’t know.”
That answer was even more concerning.
Yelena stared at the tower for several seconds…
They had seen numerous Dark Sorcerers before. Most of them had a tinge of demonic energy within their bodies.
However, the one in front of them only had Dark Energy, which was quite different…
“It must be a different breed of Dark Sorcerer?”
“Breed? Stop joking… The power of the Dark Sorcerers came from the Demons… That’s why their energy feels corrupted. However, this one is only intimidating and quite scary… It’s not that repulsive at all.”
“Whatever it is, it wasn’t here yesterday.”
The priests exchanged uneasy glances.
Mikhail then looked toward the city.
“Then someone built it overnight?”
“No way.”
Yelena shook her head.
“I would have noticed.”
She looked at the tower again.
“It appeared just now for sure…”
The priests fell silent.
That explanation made far less sense than construction.

Several streets away, another group had gathered on the rooftop of a three-story inn.
Unlike the church delegation, these people had no interest in worshipping gods or investigating divine omens.
They were adventurers.
More importantly, they were among the strongest adventurers currently staying in Atrium City.
Five figures stood together, their attention fixed on the enormous black tower that had suddenly appeared beyond the city.
The tallest among them was a heavily built man with long ash-gray hair tied into a loose ponytail. A massive battle axe rested casually against his shoulder, yet the weapon was large enough that an ordinary man would have struggled to lift it.
His name was Viktor Sokolov.
He was a Platinum-ranked adventurer and the leader of the Frostfang Expedition, a group that had traveled across much of the continent in search of dangerous monsters and ancient ruins.
Viktor had faced countless monsters during his career, but even he couldn’t take his eyes away from the tower.
Beside him stood a woman with short crimson hair and a black eyepatch covering her left eye.
Anastasia Volkov slowly removed the eyepatch.
The moment her eye was exposed, a faint silver glow appeared within her iris.
She activated her enhanced vision and stared toward the tower.
“What the hell is that?”
Viktor glanced at her.
“Can you see anything?”
“Not clearly.”
Anastasia narrowed her eyes.
“There is some kind of energy surrounding the tower. It’s interfering with my vision.”
A thin-haired man wearing a long gray coat stepped forward.
His name was Arkady Belov, the oldest member of the group and a Platinum-ranked Adventurer specializing in ancient formations.
He adjusted his round spectacles as he studied the tower.
“Its surrounding mist isn’t just a barrier.”
Viktor looked at him curiously…
“It’s an array.”
Arkady’s expression gradually became more fascinated…
Anastasia glanced at him.
“You recognize it?”
“No.”
Arkady smiled.
“That’s precisely why I’m interested.”
A younger woman standing behind him immediately sighed.
“Of course you are.”
She was Nadezhda Orlova, a Platinum-ranked Healer Sorcerer whose silver-blonde hair was tied into a long braid. Unlike most healers, she carried a strange mechanical staff covered with rotating rings and tiny crystal components.
Arkady ignored her.
Nadezhda continued staring at the tower.
“You’d probably walk straight into a dragon’s mouth if someone told you there was an ancient inscription inside.”
Arkady finally looked at her.
“That depends on the dragon.”
Nadezhda stared at him.
“You see? That’s exactly what I’m talking about.”
A quiet laugh came from the fifth member of the group.
He was a lean man with dark brown hair and a long black coat. Several throwing knives were attached to his belt, while a pair of thin silver swords rested across his back.
His name was Zorin.
Unlike the others, Zorin rarely spoke unless he had something important to say.
He had been a Platinum-ranked scout for nearly a decade and was known for surviving expeditions that had claimed the lives of entire adventuring parties.
“You’re all forgetting something,” Zorin said.
Viktor glanced at him.
“What?”
Zorin then pointed toward the tower.
“It appeared in the middle of the day.”
Everyone became silent.
They had already considered that fact.
The tower hadn’t been discovered… It hadn’t been excavated… It hadn’t been uncovered from beneath the earth either.
It had simply appeared!
One moment, there had been an empty stretch of land outside Atrium City.
The next, an enormous black tower had risen into the sky.
Viktor slowly tightened his grip around his battle axe and spoke helplessly, “I can only think of the Dawnblades. It must be their doing. Those guys are too weird.”
Everyone gently nodded their heads.
The Dawnblades had an extraordinary reputation…
As a matter of fact, their group had received an invitation from this organization… They had promised incredible wealth, otherworldly power, and equipment that could never be found in this world.
It was like signing with the devil!
Nadezhda sighed as she had also considered the Dawnblades to be behind this anomaly…
“Let’s leave this city then… I don’t feel good about this.”
