Chapter 1908: Glodden's Treasury
Chapter 1908: Glodden's Treasury
"What are you trying to save in this new treasury room?" Zhang Mengyao curiously asked as they headed toward the new treasury room. Her husband asked her to make a treasury room, isolated and out of reach of anyone, a secret room. She wondered what kind of treasure he would keep here.
"It's not for me," Tang Shaoyang shook his head and summoned Glodden.
"It's for me!" The Golden Imp came out with a jump, pointing this fork upward, excited for his new treasury room. He pranced in joy, and could not wait to store his coins in his secret treasury.
Zhang Mengyao was flabbergasted, not knowing what happened. She looked at the back of the bouncing Golden Imp, then she turned toward her husband with a look of "WTF happened?", questioning what was this about.
"It's my contract. Glodden wants treasure in exchange for his work," Tang Shaoyang explained.
"Wow, look! It's my name there. It's Glodden Treasury!!!" Glodden gasped in surprise, not expecting his name to be carved above the heavy stone door. The Golden Imp looked at the text first because it was painted gold, but then he noticed the carving on the heavy door. He shrieked in delight as the golden figure flashed toward the door.
Glodden stopped a meter away from the door, admiring his carving before his tiny hand reached out to the door. Tang Shaoyang and Zhang Mengyao stopped behind the Golden Imp and did not interrupt the small guy's joy.
After a while, Glodden nodded in satisfaction. He turned around with a big smile, revealing his sharp teeth.
"Glodden is satisfied!" He raised his thumb at Tang Shaoyang, "Master keep his promise, Glodden will work harder to get more gold coins!"
"Why don't you open it and put your treasure inside," Tang Shaoyang smiled. Glodden never stopped amusing him even though the little guy did not try to.
He then took out sixteen GCs and handed them to Glodden. The Golden Imp's eyes shone, but his hand was so small that he almost could not hold it even with his two hands. He carefully brought the coin, but he soon realized that his hand was so full that he could not open the door.
Glodden raised his right foot, intending to push the door with his foot. However, the coin almost fell from his hand in his first attempt. He quickly realized that he might not be able to use his foot to open the door. The Golden Imp slowly turned toward his master with a pleading look.
"Can you please open the door for me, Master? I don't mean to order you around but…"
Tang Shaoyang chuckled while Zhang Mengyao also smiled. She knew Glodden was a demon, but it was funny to hear the childish and innocent voice come from the Golden Imp. This was not her first time meeting an Imp, but this was the first time she met an Imp like this. The Imp's voice she knew was grating and high-pitched, and this one was funny, almost cute.
Tang Shaoyang pushed the door open and revealed the empty treasury. The size of the room was 20 x 20 meters and a red carpet covered the entire floor. The wall was painted gold under Tang Shaoyang's request.
"Whoa…" Glodden had his mouth opened, amazed by his own treasury room. He slowly stepped into the room while making sure his coin did not fall from his hand.
"How is it? Do you like it?" Tang Shaoyang asked even though he already knew the answer from Glodden's expression.
Glodden turned toward Tang Shaoyang, "Yes! Glodden like it!" He was about to bow, grateful, but his coin almost fell. His face crunched, looking down at his coin and then looking at his Master, who did not know what to do.
"What about if you put your coin first? Isn't that the reason why you want a treasury room?"
Glodden went with "Ah", then he turned around, making careful and tiny steps to the end of the room. Then he put the coin at the end of the room, slowly taking a few steps back. There was some pause there as he kept looking at his sixteen coins above the carpet.
Tang Shaoyang thought Glodden was admiring the coins, but he was surprised to see a frown on his face. There was something that bothered the little guy for sure, but he did not know what made Glodden displeased.
"What's wrong?" The little guy had a mood swing, but he did not know what made the little guy unhappy.
Glodden let out a sigh and pointed at the sixteen coins, "Too little! Glodden's treasure is too little, and the treasure room is too big. Glodden wants more coins to fill this room, Master! Give Glodden more work!"
Tang Shaoyang almost laughed, but he held up. It would upset the little guy even more if he laughed in front of Glodden's face. He could fill the treasure with his coins, he had excess after the fight in the frontier against the Void Creatures. Those Void Creatures gave a lot of coins.
"Hmmm… I do have work, do you want it?"
The frustration quickly changed into a determination. Glodden's eyes filled with determination, "What's it? Glodden will do his best to complete the work."
"Be a bodyguard for my daughter. It's seven days of work, and you will be paid a coin per day," Tang Shaoyang told the Golden Imp the job.
He was worried that the Void Cult or the Nirvana Alliance or the God Order snuck into earth with some sort of mysterious trick. His wives were vulnerable, but his daughters were even more vulnerable. Having an additional safety measure for his daughter would be more reassuring to him. Why seven days? Because he had to leave in seven days for the special mission.
"Bodyguard?" Glodden asked again, slightly confused.
"Yes, a bodyguard. You have to protect my daughter from any dangers, you are responsible for my daughter's safety," Tang Shaoyang explained, "But being a bodyguard is not only to keep them safe, but you have to make them happy too. If they are not happy with you, you are not doing your job properly."
He was afraid that Glodden might take the work too seriously and that the Golden Imp would become an emotionless statue. He wanted him to play with her daughter too, entertaining her daughter.
"I will throw you a bonus of three gold coins, making it ten gold coins if my daughter is happy with you after the seven-day contract is over."
When a bonus was mentioned, Glodden's eyes glowed in greed, but the Golden Imp's expression quickly changed, seemingly pondering something in his mind.
"I thought the job was only protecting Master's daughter, but I have to make Master's daughter happy too? Glodden's work is doubled, but you only pay me for one work. Isn't it unfair for Glodden?"
It was obvious that Glodden tried to negotiate to get more coins. He knew the Golden Imp was trying to get three or maybe five more coins because of how determined he was to fill his empty treasury. He could keep the price ten coins by saying, that making her daughter happy was part of the job.
"Alright, you keep my daughter safe and happy, then I will double the pay, 20 coins!"
Glodden's eyes widened in surprise, clearly not expecting his Master would double the pay. He was ready to negotiate, preparing something in his mind to negotiate that his Master must pay him more than 10 coins. He did not expect his Master to double it.
"Deal!" The Golden Imp snapped up, and immediately sealed the deal before Master changed his mind, "I will protect your daughter and make her happy as well. If I fail the job, you don't have to pay me!" Glodden said with such determination as they walked out of the treasury room.
Glodden had conflicted expressions as he closed the door, but he quickly changed his attitude because he must work now.
"Where is Master's daughter? Glodden will work immediately!"
"Origin will guide you to my daughter!" At his words, Origin's voice rang in the hallway, and the little guy followed the voice.
"Is he strong?" Zhang Mengyao asked curiously. It was a genuine curiosity because the spirit looked innocent and childish to her.
However, Glodden took it differently as it sounded more like she was challenging him than a genuine curiosity. The Golden Imp snapped up and turned toward Zhang Mengyao. He heard her even though he was ahead of them.
"Be careful, Lady Master. Glodden might be poor now, but Glodden is strong. At least, no one is stronger than Glodden in this building excluding Master!"
Zhang Mengyao went with "Ah", and apologized with a smile while explaining. She did not mean to look down on Glodden, but she was curious how strong Glodden was.
"I accept your apology, Lady Master," The Golden Imp nodded magnanimously.
Then Glodden's expression turned into confusion. When he was asked how strong he was, he did not know the answer, "I am stronger than you?" He tried to explain it, but it sounded off. He blinked his eyes a few times, and then he turned toward Tang Shaoyang with a pleading look.
"If we put him on the Leaderboard list, I think Glodden will be either the fourth or the second place. I am not sure myself who is stronger between him and the twins," Tang Shaoyang was not sure how to explain it either. That was the best he could do with the explanation. It was tricky to measure who was stronger when they were in the God Rank.
It was Zhang Mengyao's turn to be surprised. She did not expect that a spirit was stronger than all the God Ranks in the guild. What shocked her was when she realized that Glodden was just one of many of her husband's spirits. It meant her husband had more spirits that were above the normal God Rank.
Zhang Mengyao was genuinely curious about the spirits, "So, are there stronger spirits than Glodden?"
"Of course!" This time, Glodden was walking side by side with them and heard the question. He answered the question, "There is one…" He raised one finger, but then he realized there was one more, "Two…?"
"No, three…" Glodden kept raising his fingers four more times, up to seven, "Seven! Glodden thinks seven spirits are stronger than Glodden."
"What about the remaining spirits?" Zhang Mengyao asked again.
"They are as strong as Glodden," Glodden answered innocently.
This was a rare chance for Zhang Mengyao to find out more about her husband. She kept asking questions about the spirits, the number of the spirits, and who was the strongest spirit, and so on.
Tang Shaoyang left Glodden with Zhang Mengyao as he headed to the Dimensional Tower. Lunea, Ophelius, and Ophelia were out of the tower, so there were still two more spots for God Rank. Delia already returned to the tower with Gluttony. It seemed like the two floors truly benefited her as she immediately returned the moment she had the chance.
Tang Shaoyang had seven days more to explore the tower, and he wanted to reach the twentieth floor and above. He figured out there might be some benefit for him on the higher floor.
"Let's see what's on the thirteenth floor."
