Chapter 1996: Golden Sun Sovereign
Chapter 1996: Golden Sun Sovereign
The Calamities movement that approached the city was not a natural reaction, but an action from an unknown group. This group lured the calamities into the city region. The weakened barrier was just an additional push for the calamities to stay.
The group appeared two days after he inherited the Grandmaster Codex. They made no contact with him and had been staying away from him. They were extremely cautious, making sure to keep their distance from Tang Shaoyang. Maybe they tried to use the calamities to test out how strong Tang Shaoyang was.
That was the expected guests in Vandir’s words. The reason he called the group of cultivators from the Black Lotus Sect unexpected guests was because of their unknown origin.
"I don’t think they will show up after witnessing what I did to these calamities, as well as the group from the Black Lotus Sect."
Tang Shaoyang could not see this unknown group with his Chaos Eyes. They stayed far too far away from his Chaos Eyes’ reach.
"They will show up because they know you have what they wanted, Boss. Maybe they are waiting for reinforcement," Vandir tried to sense this unknown group, but he could not sense them as well.
"Let me return to the Spirit World and call me back when they show up, Boss. I need to do some upgrades for your undead, and maybe I can make your undead catch up to your strength. Isn’t that exciting?"
The skeleton made a clacking, exciting noise. He was planning to implement his new ideas, the undead version of Tang Shaoyang, and put them to the test against this unknown group.
"Nope. You are on duty to clear out the calamity, Vandir. You are not going back until we cleanse this world."
Tang Shaoyang was firm with his decision. The reason was that Vandir had his own army, which could hasten the cleansing. He would not let someone like Vandir go back without doing anything.
"You can continue with your experiment and research after. There’s no but!"
The flickering flame in his socket dimmed down. The Death King knew what his Master wanted, and it was non-negotiable.
"Alright, boss. Let’s make this quick, then, but I want you to promise me one thing."
Tang Shaoyang gestured to the skeleton to speak up.
"Recall me when those cowardly bastards come for you. I need to do more experiments and tests against cultivators."
Vandir’s flame blazed fiercely when he mentioned the cultivators. It seemed like the skeleton had a new idea of an experiment for the cultivators.
"Are you trying to turn your undead into a cultivator?" Tang Shaoyang squinted his eyes.
The Death King just made a clacking, exciting noise with his jaw without answering Tang Shaoyang. However, Tang Shaoyang knew he was spot on.
"You can come to me if you need my assistance for your project."
He supported his spirit’s project because it was no different than making himself stronger. Not just that, he might have an undead cultivator army.
Vandir waved his hand as his figure turned into black particles and disappeared.
"What are we going to do now?" Avyn asked after the skeleton left. She expected some excitement, but the answer was disappointing.
"I am going to use those bodies for summoning."
The dead bodies of calamity were scattered around, and his spirits trampled over. He was not going to waste the sacrifice, and he did not have the manpower to gather them all with his army gone on their way.
"You can leave if you are bored."
"Nah, I will stay with you, and I want to see what kind of spirits you will summon this time. Maybe we can have fun by beating those arrogant spirits as well," Zara shrugged, and Avyn nodded in agreement.
"If you say so."
Tang Shaoyang then flew toward the sky. Using his Master Elemental Manipulation, he manipulated the earth to gather the dead bodies in one area. The work became easier with his Chaos Eyes, and he gathered more than ten piles of the dead calamities, creating numerous small mountains made of dead bodies.
He did not bother to count the sacrifice or try to maximize the number. He used all the bodies and hoped he could summon a pinnacle rank Archaic Spirit. A low rank Archaic Spirit was also good, not that far from a high rank Archaic Spirit. The ideal spirit would be the high rank Archaic Spirit, since all of his spirits were at that rank, with four exceptions.
Tang Shaoyang directed his hand toward the piles of calamity corpses and used the skill, "Spirit Summoning!"
His initial thought was that he would summon another calamity spirit. That was a common occurrence because he used calamity as a sacrifice, a pattern he learned after more than a hundred summonings. He would get a calamity spirit if he used calamity as a sacrifice.
He had more than a hundred calamity spirits from the previous special mission for the same mission. That was why he expected a calamity spirit, but he was wrong.
The sky split as golden light shot down toward the piles of calamities. The golden light evaporated the dead bodies into nothingness. Then the golden light dimmed as a round golden light descended from the splitting sky.
It was so bright that it looked almost like a small sun, but it did not really affect Tang Shaoyang, Zara, and Avyn’s eyesight. They stared at the golden light as a silhouette started to form. The golden light poofed into golden particles, making it look like a rain of golden particles.
A dashing man who looked in his early thirties was revealed. He had sharp red eyes, sharp eyebrows, and black hair, wearing a golden and red robe. He had his hands on his back, looking down from above. His sharp eyes moved around, trying to figure out something until he discovered Tang Shaoyang and the two girls.
"A monster?"
That was the first word coming out of his mouth. His voice was sharp and cold with not-so-subtle killing intent when he set his sights on Tang Shaoyang.
"A monster summoned me?"
Then the man let out a cold laugh that sent chills. His voice was filled with rage and sorrow. His laughter echoed in the quiet area.
[You have summoned Archaic Spirit, Golden Sun Sovereign / Supreme Grandmaster - Han Taiyang.]
Tang Shaoyang squinted his eyes at the notification. It was a surprise on top of a surprise. He expected to summon a calamity, but he got a spirit cultivator. Whether it was fate or not, it seemed Han Taiyang was part of the Thousand Vows Pavilion as well.
He guessed it based on the second title, Supreme Grandmaster. That reminded him of the ten old men who were above all others. This person might be on the same level as those ten old men, but he failed to store his soul in Thousand Halls for some reason.
"First, I am not a monster. Second, I think there’s nothing wrong with being a monster."
"Bah!" Han Taiyang spat at the claim, "If you are not a monster, then what are you? What with that hideous appearance? Do you think you can trick me just because you summon me?"
"And what? Nothing wrong with being a monster? Everything about monsters is wrong! They should be eradicated from this world to end the misery they bring for us!" The Golden Sovereign roared in rage.
Tang Shaoyang clicked his tongue, realizing this might be more complicated than any other contracts. Of course, he could always defeat this man and force the contract. However, he would like to make a contract with a mutual respect and interest in the spirit of the contract.
The reason was simple: he wanted to resurrect them and make them an asset for his empire, reinforcing his empire with powerful people. It would be hard for this Han Taiyang because of his hate toward monsters.
Lycanthropes and the beast-folk could be considered monsters, and they were part of his empire. He would not get rid of them just for this single man. If he had to make a choice, he would rather get rid of this one strong spirit. It was unfortunate that he could not check whether Han Taiyang was at the pinnacle, or a high rank, or even lower, until he established the contract.
If Han Taiyang were at the pinnacle or high, it would be worth it to force the contract. He would consider taking Han Taiyang even if he was an intermediate Archaic Spirit, but he did not mind sacrificing Han Taiyang if this spirit was a low-rank Archaic Spirit. Absorbing Han Taiyang’s stats and techniques might be more worthwhile than having a rebellious spirit.
Avyn stepped in front of Tang Shaoyang, "Let’s not kill him. There is a lot to teach, but it’s doable. We can change him."
Zara took a few steps forward and stood next to Avyn, "Let’s have fun with him."
"Women are truly foolish. You can never win against me. Let that monster fight me. Even if I can’t kill my summoners, I will make them suffer. I will make this fight his nightmare for the rest of his life!"
