Atticus's Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground

Chapter 1384: Thought

Chapter 1384: Thought

’They’ve trapped us inside a barrier. I need to unravel it so we can escape,’

Anorah said quickly, but she didn’t have to say anymore. They both completely understood what she meant.

’We’ll watch your back, Saint,’ One assured.

’Leave it to us, Saint,’ Lazio said firmly.

Regardless, neither of them could keep the dread out of their voices. Without their wills, trying to hold back the Will Guard for even a second could cost them their lives.

But there was no choice. Anorah needed a few seconds to unravel the barrier, a few seconds where they had to protect her.

The sounds of air tearing suddenly reached them, and as they turned, their expressions darkened. The Sentinels and the other Will Guards were hot on their tails!

’I only need a few seconds!’

Anorah thundered, and without hesitation she blurred forward with even more speed, crossing the large distance in a blip.

She placed a palm on the invisible barrier, eyes already flickering.

One and Lazio landed at a distance from her, tense. They faced the Will Guards surging towards them.

"Got any plans?" Lazio asked. On a normal occasion, Lazio wouldn’t dare speak to a member of the High Synod in that manner. Due to the situation, One allowed it.

"Just the one..." One’s tone was grave. "Survive."

Lazio swallowed hard and nodded, just as the Will Guard reached them.

He unsheathed his sword, a blade that had followed him for centuries now, then sighed.

’Looks like I have no choice but to use it.’

In the middle planes, the main power was Will. However, in a world with numerous scenarios where that power could be made obsolete, many had to find ways to get an edge over others.

Each world had a different making, a different power system. This was true for the worlds on the lower planes, and the hundreds of thousands of the middle plane worlds were no different.

So, when the main power of the middle planes was made obsolete, the people always turned back to their origins. The power of their worlds.

Lazio dipped into a pocket in his vest, before bringing out a small chest. As he opened it, a wave of earth and forest hit him.

He took the one pill in the middle of the chest and popped it into his mouth. He swallowed.

Suddenly, his body pulsed with a green light, veins lighting up. His muscles grew and so did his height and hair. His body looked so filled with vigor it was like he had turned immortal.

One sent him a glance before acting. He ripped away the sleeve on his left arm, revealing a sun shaped tattoo. With a thought, it suddenly blazed forth, radiating a powerful light that pierced the dark night.

The light seemed to pulse through One, surging through his body. He unsheathed his broad sword, slowly settling into a stance.

His eyes flared golden, settling on one of the Sentinels. Lazio’s emerald eyes settled on the other.

And with a roar, they exploded forward, screaming towards them, weapons lashing out.

Unfazed, the Sentinels punched out towards them. Their collision birthed an immense shockwave that sent the other Will Guards hurtling back.

But there was no smile on One and Lazio’s faces. Though they had both attacked with all they had, they felt a shudder vibrate through their bodies.

Their intense eyes were fixed on the Sentinels, who, despite attacking with their full might, were unmoved.

A faint golden hue surrounded their bodies, and their eyes weren’t even fixed on them. They stared at Anorah a distance away, like they couldn’t wait to do away with trash.

One and Lazio gritted their teeth as the suddenly force tore through them. They were sent shooting back with speed, tearing through buildings.

The Sentinels ignored them, already moving towards Anorah when a shout tore through the dome.

A golden light flared from beneath a ruin of collapsed debris, then detonated, sending the debris shooting in every direction.

One emerged from the ruin, blazing eyes fixed on the Sentinels.

"I am your opponent!"

The Sentinels narrowed their eyes. But in the next moment, One blasted upwards, his broad sword cleaving towards them.

Lazio followed closely behind, uninjured. He thrust towards the other Sentinel.

"Useless."

Both frowned. And in a speed that surpassed what both One and Lazio could detect, they swatted their attacks like one would a fly, and gripped their necks with their other hands.

One and Lazio found themselves plummeting from the skies before they could realize, back impacting the ground with bone jarring force.

"B-bastard!" One choked out with bloodied teeth, but only the emotionless eyes of the Sentinel stared back at him.

He clutched the arms of the Sentinel tight, and his sun tattoo began radiating an even more intense light.

His hand turned scalding, and smoke sizzled from where he gripped the Sentinel. One didn’t miss the pained look that crossed the Sentinel’s eyes.

’They can feel pain.’ That single thought somehow made him feel better. It meant that they were just like them. Killable.

But One was snapped out of his thoughts as the Sentinel suddenly gripped his scalding arm and pulled.

One’s eyes popped wide.

’No.’

But it was too late. The Sentinel ripped off his arm in the next moment, crimson blood splattering across the ruined earth.

One stifled a cry, unimaginable pain assaulting him. His trembling eyes met with the coldness of the Sentinel’s and he felt his life flash before his eyes.

’I’m going to die.’

A flash of purple light cut through the haze. The Sentinel’s eyes widened, quickly leaping back to evade the incoming beam.

A firm hand grabbed One, pulling him up.

"You’re okay. You’re okay." He heard the voice of his Saint.

He’d watched the girl grow up and had practically raised her. At the very least, many would expect some form of affection or worry. But Anorah’s voice was clear, like she was addressing a stranger.

MJust like her father.’ He felt his consciousness slipping, and he was reminded about the man he had looked up to for as long as he could remember. A great man.

He saw a blinding light blaze forth, swallowing all, and felt the wind whipping at him as Anorah carried him and Lazio to safety. Only one thought ran in his head.

’She would save us all.’

Then the darkness claimed him.
