Chapter 1508 Fartonia
Chapter 1508 Fartonia
Ozeroth shrugged grandly. "Because the mindless cannot appreciate supremacy. The Verge granted them sentience so they could understand what stands before them. A commendable choice."
The citizens behaved like actual humans. Which meant he couldn't treat them however he pleased. Which explained the current scene.
"So…" Anorah said, glancing at the civilians battering the dome.
"They hate you because they consider you an incompetent lord. Right?"
"That's right," Atticus nodded.
"Oh, they didn't even give you a chance. My man's a great ruler."
Atticus cleared his throat, slightly embarrassed as the group turned to him. Anorah had always been bold enough to say whatever she wanted.
"But really, this level of disrespect? Hmph." Ozerra flicked her hair. "They should be grateful the great Ozerra graces their miserable land. Instead they scream like fools. They're probably acting up because your lesser self is present." Ozeroth instantly erupted.
"Lesser—!? You arrogant flea—!"
"From what you explained, the civilians are assigned based on territory size. You probably have this many because you absorbed so many territories."
Atticus nodded in understanding.
"So there was a downside."
Whisker shrugged. "Nothing's perfect. Just deal with it."
Atticus fixed his eyes on the people outside hammering the dome. The ones in front had turned to a bloody mush, being pushed from behind.
"So… how do we deal with this?"
The group fell silent, contemplating. Then, as though they had agreed, they turned toward Anorah in unison.
"What?" Anorah frowned.
Atticus exchanged glances with the others before clearing his throat.
"You have more… experience than us."
"What do you mean?"
'I'm going to get hit for this.'
He suddenly raised his arms like he was holding a sword. "Remember… for the resistance…?"
Whisker exploded into laughter. "You're brutal, my star actor!"
Anorah turned beet red, glaring at Atticus with murderous eyes.
Atticus raised his hands defensively. "Why are you all looking at me!? You were all thinking it!"
"No," Magnus said calmly.
"I would never betray you like that," Ozeroth added dramatically.
"Coward," Ozerra muttered.
Atticus' eyes widened.
"You guys—!"
He felt Anorah's piercing stare and quickly waved his arms.
"They're all lying!"
Anorah folded her arms with a sharp hmph. Even Noctis shook his little head at Atticus.
As his laughter subsided, Whisker patted Atticus' shoulder. "Take it easy on him. He still has a lot to learn about women."
Eventually, after much persuasion, Anorah agreed to be the group's voice. Atticus controlled the dome to float upward, leaving the raging civilians below.
Anorah floated forward, and her body emitted a golden light that washed over the crowd. The roars slowly subsided.
"People of…" she turned back and Whisker whispered something ridiculously fast.
Anorah narrowed her eyes at him.
Whisker nodded solemnly, as if giving the most sacred advice.
She sighed.
"People of… Fartonia!"
Her voice carried across the millions.
"I understand your frustration and pain, and I assure you your lord has heard your voice. He is reflecting profoundly on your struggles. Fartonia is his home, all of your homes, and he wants nothing more than to make it great. But to do that, he needs your support. Let him help."
"Why should we listen to you, cunt!? You're an enemy!" someone shouted.
"Yeah! She wants Fartonia for herself!"
"What's the lord's divine beast doing with her!?"
"Kill the cunt!"
"Tear her to pieces!"
Atticus' eyes flashed red. He gripped his katana, but Whisker quickly held him back from rampaging.
"Relax," Whisker said. "I think I know what's going on. I'll handle this."
He floated forward, and the roaring crowd calmed down.
"My beautiful people of… Fartonia!"
Hushed whispers spread.
"Look, it's General Whisker."
"He's speaking…"
"He's the lord's loyal right hand…"
Whisker smiled brightly. "This radiant woman has, in fact… been conquered by our lord."
He threw Atticus a sideways glance, who narrowed his eyes as he realized.
'They think she's an enemy because she's another god.'
He suddenly remembered the rule and acted quickly.
'I can subordinate other gods, as long as they accept.'
Atticus summoned the rules and went through the process. The next moment Anorah turned toward him, startled.
"Just do it," he whispered.
She nodded and accepted the request. Instantly, the murderous eyes of the crowd cleared, and they looked at her warmly.
Anorah took advantage of the change.
"Our lord wants nothing more than to make Fartonia great. To start, tell us your grievances!"
The forest exploded with complaints.
"The lord is neglecting his duties!"
"We have no food! No water!"
"I haven't had a bath in centuries!"
"There's no toilet! You expect me to go in the forest!?"
"My house is literally a hole!"
"The neighbor beside me cries all day!"
"The village screamer won't shut up!"
Atticus blinked, listening to the truckload of baffling complaints. He could feel the Verge laughing from whatever endless space he was watching from.
Still, the audacity of these millions baffled him. Food? Water? Toilets? He had to provide all this? What the hell…
"Bah! They sound like whining babies… overgrown, loud babies." Ozeroth crackled.
'But there's no choice.'
He frowned deeply. Even without the rules, he had felt it the moment he slaughtered merely thousands. A dip in his will, and in vastness. It was like being a god of a world. Its population added to his power. When he had massacred the Zorvan world, their god had been powerless.
His people dying would leave him with nothing. He had to protect them.
Hearing the complaints, Anorah continued.
"I understand your concerns, and truly they are important. And I have great news, your lord will solve everything!"
Atticus frowned but nodded. He raised his hands, and the ground shook. Earth rose and molded into houses, walls, structures, forming an entire settlement in seconds.
He reached into his storage ring, and an incalculable amount of food rained down from the sky. The people erupted, scattering as they fought for food.
"So, how does it feel, Lord of Fartonia?" Whisker appeared beside him with a wide grin.
