Chapter 832: Prove You're the Prophet

Chapter 832: Prove You’re the Prophet

“How is the war against the demons going?”

Evangelin stared at him for a few moments, as if thinking about the situation with the demons. A hint of disgust toward the demons could be felt in the depths of her eyes.

But it was clear she saw them as nothing more than a few troublesome, brainless fools.

“Much better than before.” And then she answered quietly.

Daniel waited for her to continue. Evangelin placed her hand on a number of reports and handed them to him so he could take a brief look.

“Before our intervention… the situation was much worse. The demons were advancing almost without resistance.”

“Several border kingdoms had fallen, and dozens of cities were being destroyed every week.”

Her voice was still calm, as if she were talking about something insignificant.

This situation was devastating for all the surrounding kingdoms, and everyone was afraid that they might be the next to be attacked. But the saint? She spoke as if it were a normal matter.

“But after the arrival of the dragons, the Eternity People’s Army, and your Fallen… the situation changed. The demons’ advance has completely stopped.”

“We are even taking back the lands they occupied, and we have already retaken many.”

Daniel nodded quietly and took one last look at the reports in his hand, which explained the details more precisely. If he wasn’t mistaken, these reports had all been written by the intelligence organization they had established.

“Good. What about the Demon King himself? Has he intervened?” He was a bit curious about the reaction of the most powerful demon to his army being defeated and pushed back.

He was probably angry, right? After all, this war had started because he killed the Demon King’s children, and now the Eternity religion, which belonged to him, was destroying the demon army.

If the Demon King realized he was behind all this, he would probably go mad.

Evangelin shook her head negatively.

“No. For now, he’s just watching.” This answer caused a faint frown to form on Daniel’s face.

A being at the level of the Demon King, if he truly intended to fight, would be unlikely to remain this passive.

And that was concerning. Powerful beings usually become more dangerous when they haven’t yet entered the field, because it’s unclear what their next move will be.

Besides, he doubted the demons would be defeated so easily.

But for now, he said nothing. Instead, he raised another topic.

“What about the return of the Eternity religion? What have the reactions been?”

This time, Evangelin thought a bit more.

“The demons showed almost no particular reaction. They continued their attacks, as if it made no difference what religion stood against them.”

Daniel had expected this. For demons, humans were simply enemies; the name of the religion didn’t matter. Even though the Eternity religion had existed in the past, it had ultimately been defeated by demons once.

So the demons might even become more arrogant that their enemy is the Eternity religion.

But the main question still remained.

“The other powers of the world?”

“Several envoys have been sent. Kingdoms, empires, trade unions, and even some neutral powers. They all requested meetings.” Evangelin said in a calm tone.

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

“And?”

“And none of them have taken an official stance. No support, no hostility. For now, they’re just watching.”

Daniel nodded slowly. That was also natural. When a new power is emerging, most governments prefer to first assess its true strength.

But then he asked the more important question.

“What about the Divine Church? And the other religions?” They could be the biggest problem.

For the first time since the start of the report, Evangelin truly paused.

Daniel noticed it wasn’t from fear, but from the annoyance of the matter, and perhaps because this woman was tired.

Months of negotiation, political pressure, and religious conflict probably hadn’t been easy even for her. War and fighting are easy, but political conflicts are annoying and complex.

“The situation with them is more complicated. They haven’t sent any envoys, haven’t made any negotiation requests. The Fate religion showed the worst reaction.”

Daniel remained silent.

Evangelin continued.

“They officially declared that we are a false religion, that we have no connection to the original Eternity religion, claiming that everything about us is fabricated.”

Daniel sighed.

But Evangelin wasn’t finished yet.

“The Divine Church took almost the same stance. They directly used the Fate religion’s statements.”

“They said there is no evidence to prove we are the survivors of an official religion, and they clearly have no interest in cooperation.”

A few seconds of silence passed. Daniel slowly leaned back in his chair. This news wasn’t very pleasant, especially for one reason: the fallen god’s heart fragment. One of the pieces he needed, and that piece was in the possession of the Divine Church.

If their relations soured from the start, obtaining it would not be easy. It might even become impossible unless he wanted to use force.

And if he used force against the Divine Church, all religions would become his enemies, and he would have no choice but to destroy all religions.

“This is troublesome.”

Evangelin nodded quietly.

“I know. That’s why I haven’t shown any harsh reaction for now.”

Daniel thought for a moment.

“Is there a way to reduce the tension?” He then asked. If possible, he preferred to reduce the tension and choose the easier path.

This time, Evangelin’s answer was without hesitation.

“There is. You need to prove that you are truly the prophet of the Eternity religion.”

“Just that?” Daniel blinked. Isn’t that too easy?

“Just that. If proven, even the Divine Church won’t be able to oppose it, and they’ll be forced to accept… at least on paper.”

Daniel laughed.

“That’s easier than I thought.”

Evangelin gave him a particular look, a look that said more than any explanation.

“You really have no idea about your current status, do you?”

“What do you mean?” Daniel raised an eyebrow.

For the first time, a hint of sarcasm appeared in Evangelin’s eyes.

“Right now, half of the followers of the Eternity religion are sure that you are a legendary being. The other half are sure you don’t exist at all, and they think I inherited your legacy and rebuilt the religion.”

Daniel was silent for a few seconds, then laughed. A short but genuine laugh.

“Great. Even my own religion doesn’t know whether I exist or not.”

“Exactly.”

The atmosphere in the room lightened for a moment, but Evangelin quickly continued.

“Of course, it doesn’t matter either. Followers are still increasing, and as long as I’m here, none of the other religions will dare to do anything foolish out of fear.”

“So there’s no need for a revelation for now.” Daniel nodded.

“Not for now.”

“For something like that, we need a magnificent opportunity.” He said with a sneer.

Evangelin also agreed.

“Perhaps you’ll find a suitable opportunity soon.”

“How?”

“It’s possible the demons will finally send their high-level forces into the war.”

Daniel’s eyes gleamed slightly.

“If they do that… that’s good.”

Evangelin sighed.

“Sometimes I forget that your definition of trouble is different from everyone else’s.”

Daniel smiled. Then he talked about the holy city and the ideas that had come to his mind during his walk.

Public schools, church-affiliated hospitals, a communication network among the follower cities, a research center, relief caravans, and dozens of other plans. And especially the matter of the old religious traditions that needed to be restored.

Evangelin noted almost all of them. Sometimes she asked questions, sometimes added a point, and sometimes simply listened.

For a moment, she no longer looked like a legendary saint.

Just a woman sitting next to someone, talking about the future they wanted to build.

“By the way, where is Eva?” Finally, Daniel asked.

Evangelin raised her head.

“She was here until two weeks ago, then she decided to challenge the tower.” Evangelin thought for a moment and then answered.

“Oh? Good. Which floor is she on?” That girl could be one of the future pillars of the religion.

Evangelin shrugged.

“I don’t know. I don’t interfere in my disciple’s affairs.”

Daniel sighed.

“I’ll ask her myself.”

After that, both rose from their seats. The evening light had almost turned the entire city golden.

“Are you going to leave again?”

Daniel thought for a moment.

“I’ll probably stay here for a day or two, but then I have to go.”

Evangelin nodded quietly.

“Do you want me to show you your room?”

“Sure.”

They left the office. For the first time all day, there were no important topics to discuss.

No war, no politics, no other annoying matters.

Just silence. And strangely, this silence wasn’t uncomfortable at all.

The evening light passed through the stained glass windows of the hallways, casting red and golden patterns on the white stone floors of the church.

The bells could be heard in the distance. Believers bowed as they passed by Evangelin.

But Evangelin only gave a brief response and continued on her way.

After a few minutes, they reached the upper floors. They stopped in front of a large door. Evangelin opened it.

Daniel entered and was silent for a few moments. The room looked more like a king’s suite.

A large library, a balcony overlooking the city, a training room, a desk, and even famous drinks, especially tea.

Daniel looked around.

“Did you design it?” He then asked quietly.

Evangelin was silent for a few seconds, then turned her gaze away.

“Maybe.”

That was it. Just that one word. But Daniel involuntarily smiled.

“Thank you.”

Evangelin nodded, then turned toward the door. But just before leaving, Daniel’s voice made her stop.

“Evangelin.”

She turned back.

“Are you free tonight?”

“For what?”

Daniel looked at her.

“I want to thank you for everything you’ve done. For all this time, for the religion, and for saving me and all the other help you’ve given me. I want to invite you to dinner.”

Evangelin looked at him without any reaction for a few moments.

“Like a date?” Then she asked completely seriously.

This time, even Daniel paused for a moment. Then he laughed.

“Call it whatever you like.”

A few more seconds of silence passed.

“So this is the first time someone has invited me to dinner to thank me.” Then Evangelin said quietly.

For the first time, something could be heard in her voice that Daniel had never heard before.

Not pride, not authority, not the calmness of saints. But something far more human. And it made Daniel just smile.

“So do you accept?”

Evangelin thought for a moment.

“I don’t feel hunger.”

“Neither do I. But you can taste the food and the pleasure of tasting is always there”

A brief pause.

And finally…

“I accept.” The Mad Empress accepted!
