Chapter 1291: Chapter 1292: Mom’s Cautionary Advice
With Aunt’s interruption, the atmosphere in the main hall wasn’t as pleasant. Father Qi felt a bit embarrassed and annoyed. The guests were the in-laws, and the things his aunt said were harsh to the ears; naturally, he felt ashamed.
"In-law, don’t mind her. Ever since something happened at her place, and after she had a stroke, she’s been a bit unclear in her actions. Please don’t take it to heart!" Father Qi said.
Father Cheng laughed heartily, "It’s all right, it’s all right, we’re family, it’s nothing." After a pause, he added, "But this drink today has quite a kick. It’s getting to my head; I should head home and lie down for a while. Age is catching up, can’t help it!"
"Leaving already? Stay for dinner; there’s plenty of food left. Let’s have another drink or two," Father Qi suggested.
"No, we’ll go. We live close; we can drink and chat anytime. I can come over, or you can visit me," Father Cheng said. "You should also take a rest."
"Well, all right then!" Father Qi stood up.
"Dad, you go rest. I’ll see my parents out!" Cheng Su said.
"Ah, sure, sure. So, in-law, today I take the liberty!" Father Qi saw them out to the main hall’s door.
Father Cheng exchanged a few polite words.
Cheng Su accompanied her parents out of the courtyard and said, "Dad, Mom, I’ll come home tomorrow for the festival, and then we can talk about Cheng Zhi’s matter properly!"
If he doesn’t study, what does he want to do!
"Alright, no rush, there’s much more to do in your in-laws’ place. Finish up there and then come back," Father Cheng said.
Mother Cheng pulled her aside, looked around to make sure no one else was near, and then whispered, "That Aunt of Taiguo’s, she’s like a thorn. You’re the daughter-in-law and a junior, try not to argue with her. Otherwise, she’ll say you’re unfilial or tell tales to your mother-in-law, making it even harder for you to get along with her. They’re real sisters, you know!"
Cheng Su felt a warmth in her heart; Mother Cheng was worried she might suffer.
"Mom, don’t worry. Do I seem like the kind who would get a raw deal? My father-in-law will definitely take my side. Besides, isn’t what she said meant to hurt? She might as well bluntly accuse me of supporting my own family. Why bother going around corners to spread tales to my in-laws?" Cheng Su was really displeased with the Aunt’s attitude.
Although she wouldn’t openly support her family in front of her in-laws, even if she did, it’s her money, and she has the right to spend it as she sees fit. Who has the right to say anything, even Qi Taiguo has no room to complain.
But Aunt insists on saying things that stir up trouble and sow discord between the families.
Imagine, by saying it so directly, who wouldn’t feel a bit awkward or hurt?
So, she can badmouth me, but I can’t argue back? That’s not fair!
"What can I say about your temper? Endure what you can. Especially since she’s had a stroke, what if she gets stimulated again and collapses with another stroke? Would you take care of her for life?" Mother Cheng gave her a stern look.
That’s something to consider!
Cheng Su was slightly alarmed, realizing she hadn’t thought of that. Those who’ve had a stroke are indeed at high risk for another, and the consequences of a second stroke are severe. At best, they might survive but be bedridden, at worst, they could die.
If, Heaven forbid, she provoked the Aunt into having another stroke, wouldn’t that be blamed on her?
"Mom, you’re really thoughtful. I hadn’t considered that!" Cheng Su complimented her mother.
Mother Cheng gave her a disapproving look and said, "Anyway, she won’t stay long. Saying a few words won’t kill you, so why argue? Just stay alert. Off you go!"
"Okay. I’ll come back tomorrow!" Cheng Su waved her hand.
