The days passed in a blur of busyness and unnoticed moments, with November arriving swiftly, and the weather in Qing City becoming cold enough to suggest possible snowfall.

The busy months made everyone realize how quickly time had flown by, but the fruits of all that work were clearly visible. First, the branch office in Guangcheng was now run by Cheng Yaozu, a shareholder. It had hung up its sign, formed a dedicated team, and begun to expand into and capture the southern market.

Meanwhile, the mother company in Qing City was expanding its new factory, growing the business as the existing production workshop continued to operate non-stop. Batch after batch of jam was sent north or south, and the increased traffic made this previously remote area gradually lively.

Some villagers spotted an opportunity and set up stalls or built houses near the factory, quietly starting small businesses selling food and goods and small eateries, mainly aimed at factory workers and people passing by.

Cheng Su saw this and smiled an understanding smile, as if seeing her own past, and she called a meeting of the technical department’s technicians to plan the development of new sauces.

This time, it wasn’t jam, but something more chic like salad dressing. The company was steadily developing, studies were progressing, and the family was harmonious, with fewer troubling matters. This was the most comfortable period Cheng Su had experienced in the years she’d spent here.

In the middle of the month, Hualing, whom they hadn’t seen for a long time, returned to the compound and brought her child along.

Her son Zhuangzhuang was skinny at birth, but after a few months, he had gained a considerable amount of weight. Though not as robust as Guiying’s son Cancan, his health was adequate.

As for Hualing, she too was full of vigor, appearing as if motherhood had fulfilled her, even taking on the role of a seasoned advisor to Cheng Su.

"You know, a woman understands that a man isn’t everything only after having her own child. I used to not understand, thinking his dad was messing around outside, making a fuss, risking it all. But now, do you see me making a fuss anymore? A woman must have her own offspring, that’s the only real bond that flows with your own blood!"

Guiying and her friends covered their mouths in laughter.

"So you don’t resent him anymore?" Cheng Su raised an eyebrow and asked.

Hualing sighed, "What’s the use of resenting him, the matters have passed, and only hurts yourself if you hold grudges? Life has to go on. Now that I have my son, it’s about compromising. He’s behaving now, utterly devoted to us, so I’ve let it go!"

Cheng Su just smiled and said nothing.

"Life is like this. Couples may argue in bed but make peace by the foot of the bed; once a child is born, all thoughts turn to the child!" Guiying chuckled and then asked, "You don’t take care of your child by yourself, do you? Aren’t you working?"

"He’s staying with my mom. I can’t rely on my mother-in-law. When he’s older, I’ll bring him back for kindergarten!" Hualing said, "I haven’t shown you guys yet since I gave birth, so I brought him to see you. I’ll be taking him back to my mom’s in a few days."

"That’s good!"

Then Hualing looked at Cheng Su and said: "I didn’t give you a heads up before, but now that I think of it, I should at least treat you all to a meal, sort of like a monthly celebration. Your restaurant is famous, and I hear hosting banquets there is quite grand. Let’s host two tables at your restaurant, and everyone can join for a meal. We’re all neighbors, can we get a discount?"

Cheng Su smiled, "Sure, I’ll make sure you get the best discount!"

Hualing then smiled contentedly and moved on to other topics.
