Chapter 1361: Chapter 1362: Visit the Orphanage to See You
After having early tea, they returned to the Cheng family home to sit for a while. The two old masters naturally continued to reminisce about the past. The younger generation listened for a bit and then dispersed to amuse themselves. The elders didn’t mind, even shooing them away so they could talk quietly.
There was still a long time before the evening banquet. Qi Taiguo was visiting Guangcheng for the first time and wanted to explore and see what the city had to offer.
"Let’s go for a walk to the orphanage!" Qi Taiguo whispered in Cheng Su’s ear.
Cheng Su was taken aback and looked over at him. He nodded slightly, his eyes shining brightly.
He wanted to go see her.
A strange feeling stirred in Cheng Su’s heart.
"Then let’s go take a walk!" Cheng Su stood up and went to tell the old masters.
"If you can’t sit still at home, let the driver take you wherever you need to go!" said Old Master Cheng.
"No need, we’ll just take the bus. The transportation in Guangcheng is quite convenient. It’s Taiguo’s first time here, so I’ll show him around. We’ll be back before the banquet!" Cheng Su replied with a smile.
Old Master Cheng said, "Then be careful on your own. The public safety isn’t very good now."
Cheng Su replied with a good.
They also informed the other family members. Ning Ge originally wanted to join them, but seeing them holding hands, decided against being a third wheel.
Guangcheng was as bustling as Cheng Su had seen before.
People traveled by bicycle, wearing coats and wool trousers, and hats. The bicycle bells jingled crisply.
"There are way more people than in Qing City." Qi Taiguo remarked with a smile to Cheng Su sitting beside him, "And their attire is more fashionable than in our place."
Cheng Su, holding his arm, glanced outside and said, "It’s a big city, not just in name only. More people, more cars, and in the future, filled with skyscrapers."
Qi Taiguo held her hand and said, "I didn’t think much of this city from what you said before, but seeing it with my own eyes feels entirely different, as if the scenes you described are unfolding right before me."
Cheng Su gave a slight smile and said, "It’s the era of development; all it needs is time."
Qi Taiguo nodded.
They got off near the orphanage and bought a bunch of snacks and stationery, carried by Qi Taiguo as they headed to the orphanage together.
In no time, they arrived. It was nearly noon, and the children were having lunch. At their appearance, little heads popped up in the canteen window, eyes filled with longing, excitement, and expectation.
Qi Taiguo paused, catching their gaze, feeling a heat rise to his face, instinctively looked at Cheng Su.
These children were mistaking them for potential adopters, but they were only visitors.
Cheng Su also looked over, with a slight curve at the corner of her lips.
Qi Taiguo was suddenly reminded of what she’d said days ago—whenever anyone came, she would be so hopeful, expecting to be taken in.
"You, back then..." Was it like this? Filled with hope, yet always met with disappointment.
Qi Taiguo felt a dull ache in his heart, suddenly thinking they shouldn’t have come, as if they had given these children false hope.
"I was once like them, or perhaps in the future, will be like them," Cheng Su’s smile was tinged with bitterness and solitude.
Indeed, filled with longing and expectation, but ultimately receiving only disappointment, which is why, later on, she stopped hoping altogether.
