Chapter 1535 - 1536: If You Seek Help, You Should Act Like It
Chapter 1535: Chapter 1536: If You Seek Help, You Should Act Like It
Seeing the subtle atmosphere inside the room, Aunt realized it herself, her face momentarily showing discomfort and embarrassment.
If it weren’t for the ugly incident involving her youngest son and eldest daughter-in-law, why would she need to leave her hometown and follow them to Qing City to make a living? Why would her daughter have to remain unmarried at this age and lower her pride to ask for help?
In the midst of this awkwardness, Deng Weiqiu, perceptive to some extent, smiled and said, "We just moved here a couple of days ago and heard that cousin-in-law was still in confinement. Is she able to go out now? She looks quite well."
As someone had already spoken, Liu Wenjing also chimed in with concern, "Yeah, I remember that Xiao Qi seemed to be born on Double Seven Festival, right?"
One shouldn’t hit a smiling person. Cheng Su followed along and said, "Yes. I just finished my confinement a couple of days ago. I had something to do and just went out for a bit, coincidentally, you guys came over."
"It’s nothing, we didn’t have much to do, just wanted Mom and Weiqiu to familiarize themselves with the place!" Liu Wenjing quickly said.
"How can you call it nothing?" Aunt glared at her displeased, and Liu Wenjing lowered her head apologetically.
Seeing Cheng Su’s displeased face, Deng Weiqiu quickly said, "Getting familiar with the place is true, but we do have a favor to ask of you both!"
Cheng Su said indifferently, "Talk about it, cousin. If it’s something we can help with, we’ll definitely oblige as family."
Seeing Cheng Su’s cold demeanor, Deng Weiqiu felt a chill internally but persisted, "I want to find a job, but I’m not familiar with the area, and both of you are well-acquainted here..."
The implication was clear, they were here to have Cheng Su and her husband find them job opportunities.
"There are so many mouths to feed at home, and just relying on Weixia’s work is tough. Since both of you hold important positions and run big businesses, could you find a job for Weiqiu and possibly introduce her to someone?" Aunt looked at Cheng Su with eagerness.
Cheng Su replied, "I’ll talk to Taiguo about it later."
Aunt furrowed her brows, intending to say something, but was stopped by Deng Weiqiu pulling her sleeve.
Cheng Su saw this but pretended not to, thinking that Deng Weiqiu had gained a bit more tact.
"Mom, Aunt and the others rarely come over. Let’s have them stay for dinner, just cook a couple more dishes," Cheng Su suggested.
"Alright." Mother Cheng handed the child to Cheng Su and went to make arrangements.
Cheng Su let them watch TV while she took the child into a room to breastfeed. As soon as she entered, Aunt’s face darkened.
Deng Weiqiu whispered in her mother’s ear, "Mom, stop being so stern, we’re here to ask for help!"
Over the past few years, she had been worn out from hardships and had grown fearful of difficult times. No matter how high her expectations were, she couldn’t deny the reality. Now, she only hoped that, by coming to a big city like Qing City, she could find a job, earn some dowry, and then find a suitable husband, to change her life.
She was most afraid that her mother’s demeanor would offend people and anger their cousin and cousin-in-law, making them unwilling to help. Then what would she do?
And with her mother’s temperament, if someday Liu Wenjing couldn’t take it anymore, or her second brother couldn’t bear it and took the kids and left secretly, what would she do then? What would her mother do? Wouldn’t they just be burdening her? Then how would she get married and live her own life?
People are selfish, she had to plan for herself too. When asking for help, one must assume a humble attitude.
Looking around at Cheng Su’s home, with its stylish and bright décor, it felt comfortable just being there, let alone living. And they even had a valuable item like a TV; if she could marry into a family with even half of that, it would be worth it!
