Chapter 1735: Chapter 1736: Throwing a Tantrum?
By the time they returned home, it was already afternoon. The in-laws had arrived, and as soon as they entered, Cheng Su heard her mother-in-law crying, furrowing her brows slightly.
“You’re back.” Mother Cheng stood up.
Cheng Su nodded, greeted her father-in-law and mother-in-law, put down her bag, and went to the bathroom to wash her face and hands. When she came out, she asked, “Xiao Qi hasn’t woken up yet?”
“He just fell asleep not long ago!” Mother Cheng replied.
She responded with an “oh,” poured herself a cup of hot tea, and only then sat down to ask her in-laws, “Have you visited Aunt?”
Hearing her question, Mother Qi’s sobs started up again. She said, “One moment she’s perfectly fine, then suddenly she’s just lying there, unable to respond when you call her, only staring at you while you cry. Oh, how pitiful, your aunt’s life is so bitter!”
She pounded her chest a few times, her shoulders shaking.
Cheng Su felt a headache coming on, unsure of what to say, so she simply remained silent and continued drinking tea.
Father Qi said, “Alright, enough with the tears, this room is about to be flooded by you.”
Mother Qi cried a few more times before gradually stopping, but she continued to wipe her eyes. Just thinking of her sister’s pitiful state made her heart ache.
Cheng Su cradled her cup of tea, took a sip, and said, “Aunt had a second stroke, so the situation is naturally more serious; she can only recuperate.” Other than stating the facts, she didn’t know what else to say.
“If it weren’t for her daughter-in-law arguing with her, she wouldn’t be so worked up. These young people, why can’t they learn to compromise?” Muttered Mother Qi, her voice weakening towards the end, clearly aware of her sister’s temper.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Su glanced her way and said, “I heard it was because Wenjing bought a jar of cold cream, and Aunt accused her of using it to seduce others, worse than a chicken. Mum, no one can tolerate such words; even a clay figurine has some temper!” She paused, then added, “It’s not Wenjing’s fault. She only argued for a couple of sentences before coming to me, and the next day, Weiqiu went in and got scolded away as well, and then Aunt collapsed.”
This was, in effect, an excuse for Liu Wenjing and her family.
Mother Qi was a little displeased upon hearing this but didn’t dare to speak against her sister, and only said, “If everyone took a step back, it wouldn’t have ended up like this. Now that she’s lying there, unable to move and needing care, not to mention the expense. Isn’t this all suffering?”
“Your sister has that unforgiving nature, even when wrong, she insists it’s right and sticks to it, never backing down,” said Father Qi.
Mother Qi replied, “Sister’s in this condition, and you’re still speaking sarcastically. Do you have a conscience?”
“I’m just discussing the matter objectively,” Father Qi said, “Let’s not talk about who’s right or wrong. It’s fate, destiny.”
Mother Qi listened, wanting to argue, but Cheng Su put down her teacup and said, “Dad, Mom, you two sit down. I have a bit of a headache. I’ll go lie down for a while.”
Having said that, she didn’t wait for a response from them, heading straight into her room.
She did genuinely feel a headache and was distressed.
Mother Qi was left stunned, feeling a bit awkward, thinking to herself that Cheng Su must be throwing a tantrum.
“Look at you…” Father Qi glared at her.
Mother Qi looked displeased, but seeing Mother Cheng, she didn’t dare to voice her complaints, only quietly fuming as she thought of her poor sister again. What would she do in the future? Would she have to lie there for the rest of her life until she died?
Thinking of her sister lying there, Mother Qi’s heart tightened with fear. She suddenly wondered if it were her lying there, what would happen?
Lying in bed, unable to move her bowels, needing someone to care for her. If it were her, Cheng Su probably wouldn’t serve her like Liu Wenjing, right? After all, they never had a good relationship!
