Chapter 1944 - 1946: Take Her Home

Chapter 1944: Chapter 1946: Take Her Home

Arriving at the ICU where her aunt was, Cheng Su saw Deng Weiqiu scolding Liu Wenjing, and Deng Weixia immediately ran up.

"What are you doing?" Deng Weixia pulled Deng Weiqiu aside. "Why are you scolding your sister-in-law?"

"You got here just in time. Why can’t I scold her? If it weren’t for her, how could Mom have fallen and ended up like this?" Deng Weiqiu shouted angrily, "If I hadn’t happened to go visit, she might not have survived." As she spoke, tears started to fall.

"That’s because Er Bao got scalded. Could she just ignore it?" Deng Weixia said, "Nobody expected this to happen."

Deng Weiqiu said, "You just keep protecting her. Now mom’s going to die, and we’re about to lose her."

Cheng Su walked over, asking, "What are you arguing about? This is a hospital. Why all the shouting?"

Her calm words carried authority, and both Deng Weixia and his sister did not dare to speak again.

Cheng Su then looked at Liu Wenjing, seeing her eyes red from crying. She asked, "I heard the child got scalded? Where is he now? How’s he doing?"

Liu Wenjing sniffled and said, "He’s lying in the ward now. They’ve bandaged him up, and there’s no major issue. The doctor said to be careful, not to let it get infected."

"Where was he scalded?"

"On his neck and hands," Liu Wenjing said. "The water had just boiled and was placed on the table, and Er Bao was running around the house and knocked into it—that’s how...the child’s skin peeled off from the scalding, and I was in such a panic that I took him to the hospital. Who knew..."

Looking at the strands of white hair on Liu Wenjing’s temples, making her look a decade older than Deng Weixia, Cheng Su realized how hard it must have been for her these days.

No wonder, she had to manage everything inside and out at home, take care of the older ones and look after the young one, along with a heap of housework. How could it not be tough?

Cheng Su then looked at the person in the ICU, wearing a respirator, thin and frail, hair completely white, with her chest showing no signs of breathing except for the steam occasionally puffing out of the breathing mask, indicating she was still alive.

"It’s not the time to blame anyone now. Weiqiu, don’t scold your sister-in-law. Everything at home depends on her, and it’s unavoidable that an accident happened without immediate attention," Cheng Su said, first looking at Deng Weiqiu, "Your sister-in-law has been taking good care of your aunt since her second stroke despite everything!"

Liu Wenjing looked at her with gratitude.

Deng Weiqiu pursed her lips, not daring to speak, wiping the corners of her eyes and sobbing silently.

"Now, you should discuss how to handle this situation," Cheng Su said. "Whether to keep treating her or not, you need to reach an agreement. If you treat her, how will you care for her afterward? How much money will it take?"

Neither of the siblings spoke for a moment.

"Don’t delay. Make a decision soon!" Cheng Su urged. "Things are already like this, and there will be many matters later. You need to come up with a plan soon."

"I can’t make the decision. He’s the son," Deng Weiqiu said, glancing at Deng Weixia.

Cheng Su replied, "Even if he’s the son, as a daughter, it’s also your responsibility. If you can’t contribute labor, what about money?"

Deng Weiqiu touched her stomach, and Cheng Su noticed her slightly protruding belly. Was she pregnant?

"I am going to have a baby this year, and our family isn’t very wealthy," Deng Weiqiu gritted her teeth and said.

Was she implying they couldn’t contribute much?

Deng Weixia felt a chill in his heart, knowing he couldn’t rely much on himself alone.

He looked at the already aged-looking Liu Wenjing, pondered for a long time, then finally gritted his teeth and said, "Let’s take Mom home."
