Chapter 1973: Chapter 1975: Will We Make It Back on Time?

The fire started quickly, and the warmth immediately enveloped the two of them, bringing some color back to Lu Feiyun’s originally pale face.

"Will this firelight attract people?" Lu Feiyun thought about the issue of the firelight.

"It’s fine, I’ve camouflaged the entrance a bit, and I’ll go check it out later." Qi Taiguo said with a smile, "First, let’s dry our clothes so we don’t catch a cold."

"My resistance is quite strong." Lu Feiyun shrugged and said, "Let me take a look at you."

She sat beside him, grabbed his hand, and started taking his pulse.

"You can read pulses?" Qi Taiguo asked in surprise, "Aren’t you trained in Western medicine?"

"I also studied under a Chinese medicine master for a year. I’m not an expert, but I know a bit." Lu Feiyun checked his pulse and then his forehead, frowning, "You’re a bit feverish."

"Maybe it’s the fire warming me?" Qi Taiguo said carelessly.

"Are you feverish or warmed by the fire? I’m a doctor after all, so I can tell. We can’t be careless." Lu Feiyun’s eyes showed some worry. If it’s an ordinary fever, it’s fine; she’s worried Qi Taiguo might have a bacterial infection, especially since he was bitten by a sick native child.

Qi Taiguo listened, looked around, and said, "Since it’s been set up, let’s see if they’ve left any pots or something to cook with. We can boil some hot water to drink, to ward off the cold and dissipate heat."

"They can eat raw food." Lu Feiyun chuckled softly.

"Let’s search before saying anything."

Once their clothes were half dry, the two began exploring the cave, and indeed, fate wasn’t too cruel to them. Even though they couldn’t find pots and pans, Qi Taiguo found a concave rock and poured water onto it to heat it.

Even more miraculously, Lu Feiyun found a piece of meat someone had hidden away; it was long dry of blood but surprisingly had no strange odor, probably because of the cold, damp cave.

"Heaven never cuts off all paths. We have water, food, and warmth." Qi Taiguo said with a smile, "As long as we make it through tonight, tomorrow, maybe we’ll return to base!"

"Let’s hope so!"

They sat around the fire, eating meat and drinking water, chatting.

"Do you think we can return to the country by July or August?" Qi Taiguo tore at the meat in his hands and asked her.

Lu Feiyun took a sip of hot water and said, "I really can’t answer you this; the war hasn’t been completely suppressed yet, and it’s been quite some time. Before you, a wave of people came for Aid Africa..."

Qi Taiguo chewed on the roasted meat and swallowed: "Don’t worry, maybe we’ll get lucky and some good medicine will come."

Lu Feiyun looked over and said, "I’d rather pray for the transport route to open, so the supplies and medicines can be delivered."

Qi Taiguo nodded, stood up, and said, "You sleep, I’ll stand guard tonight." He said while putting an animal hide on himself and walked to the entrance of the cave.

Lu Feiyun watched him walk away, she was still praying, hoping Qi Taiguo wouldn’t be infected with a bacterial disease.

Qi Taiguo couldn’t hear her prayers as he sat at the entrance, one leg bent, holding the photo of Cheng Su and her friends under the dim moonlight.

Hopefully, they can return on time; otherwise, Cheng Su would worry.

One peaceful night passed, and Qi Taiguo woke up early in the morning, feeling weak. He checked his forehead and indeed had a fever.

"Damn it!" He stood up, woke Lu Feiyun, and the two of them resumed their journey.

After walking for half a day, they finally saw the mound of earth from the base, Qi Taiguo sighed in relief; he couldn’t hold on any longer and collapsed onto the ground.

Screams and footsteps rushed over to them.
