Sitting on his own sofa, Qi Taiguo listened as Cheng Su and Cheng Yaozu recounted what happened after his departure, and he understood why Chiang Qing did this.

"So, she plans to make a final gamble? A desperate fight?" Qi Taiguo gritted his teeth, struggling to suppress his anger and shock.

Cheng Su and Cheng Yaozu exchanged a glance, saying, "Rather than a final gamble, I think she means to go down together."

Qi Taiguo’s heart tightened, and his breath halted momentarily.

So, if it weren’t for Xiao Qi’s alertness in detecting something amiss, and if Cheng Yaozu hadn’t early assigned someone for protection, Cheng Su or Xiao Qi might have been the ones kidnapped?

Qi Taiguo instinctively squeezed Cheng Su’s hand.

He took a few deep breaths before saying, "So now, have you received any news about them? Where are they hiding?"

Cheng Yaozu looked towards the city bureau chief.

"We’ve officially filed the case, and I will quickly pull up the surveillance from that area. But since the city’s surveillance system is not perfect and some places lack cameras, it might not be very optimistic," the chief spoke slowly, saying, "If the kidnappers send a message or make demands, we must remain calm and prevent any harm to the hostages."

"So now we just have to wait?" Qi Taiguo’s fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked.

Those present glanced at him and then away; everyone knew this man, holding back rage, was a soldier.

Seeing his somber face, with a chilling aura, no one dared to underestimate him.

"Let’s first hear what demands they have. Since it’s a kidnapping, whether it’s money or something else, they will make demands!" the chief said.

Cheng Su held Qi Taiguo’s hand back.

Qi Taiguo patted her hand, stood up, and gave a salute to the chief, "Then, I leave this matter in your hands, Chief."

The chief, alarmed and apprehensive, stood up, not daring to accept his salute. He had heard from Cheng Yaozu about the potential future status of this soldier.

Operations began, extracting surveillance footage, gathering information, while installing phone taps and tracking positions. Cheng Su’s household was in an uproar.

"I’ll go find people and turn this city upside down until we find her!" Cheng Yaozu said.

Qi Taiguo stood up, patted his shoulder, and nodded to show his gratitude.

"Should we avoid pushing too hard? I’m afraid if we push too hard, she might do something reckless to Mother!" Cheng Su hesitated to say.

She knew too well the saying about driving a dog into a corner.

"She likely won’t, since she managed to kidnap someone; she will definitely make demands, which means Mother is safe. But if it drags on, it’s hard to say!" Qi Taiguo pursed his lips and said.

Cheng Yaozu also agreed, "That’s what I mean too. It’s safer to quickly confirm the location and rescue her early. The longer it takes, the more troublesome it becomes!"

Cheng Su didn’t say anything further.

"Then I’m off!" Cheng Yaozu said. Time was crucial, and they were all racing against it.

Qi Taiguo responded with a hum, watched him leave, and then saw Cheng Su sitting dejectedly on the sofa, so he sat down beside her, saying, "Don’t worry, I’m back, I’m here!"
