Back to the Past: The Rise of the False Heiress Marrying the True Tycoon

Chapter 1211: Sentence

Chapter 1211: Sentence

Su Shen frowned ever so slightly. Could these three little imps not say something remotely optimistic for once? But he didn’t have the energy to bicker with them today. He explained patiently, “That’s not true at all. Your mother still has a few things to take care of in Guangcheng. She also wants to spend a few days with your grandparents. So she asked me to come back first and wrap things up here. Once I’ve handled everything, I’ll go bring her back.”

The two older children nodded in understanding. As long as it wasn’t that their mother had abandoned them, they were fine. But Su Le, the youngest, was not so easily placated. Her round eyes stared accusingly up at Su Shen.

“Bad Daddy!” she huffed. “You left Mommy all alone in another place even though she’s carrying a baby! You don’t care about Mommy at all. How can work be more important than Mommy? Hmph!”

With that, the little princess crossed her arms and turned away in a perfect pout. Su Shen looked at her dramatic posture and sighed inwardly. This girl was becoming more and more like a tiny empress every day. Still, she was his daughter, and so he softened his tone.𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

“Lele, that’s not true. No one left Mommy. She’s just staying there for a few days, that’s all. Of course, Mommy is more important than work. But Mommy said that if Daddy doesn’t work, we won’t have any money. And if we have no money, we won’t be able to give Mommy the comfortable life she deserves. You don’t want Mommy to get tired, do you?”

Su Shen had to admit, he’d been improving at this whole “talking to children” thing. He’d been taking notes from Gu Zi, who could sweet-talk Su Le into obedience with the grace of a seasoned diplomat. Unlike the traditional “stick over carrot” method of parenting the elders favored, Gu Zi’s method was patient, firm, and astonishingly effective.

As expected, Su Shen’s gentle reasoning worked like a charm. Su Le’s expression softened—of course she didn’t want Mommy to be tired.

By the time they reached the Chen residence, the adults were still out, but Su Shen had already spoken with Chen Yu earlier over the phone. After exchanging a few brief pleasantries with Chen Xi, he took the children home.

The moment they opened the door, Big Yellow bounded over, tail wagging, letting out a series of longing howls as if scolding them for being gone so long. Su Li and Su Le immediately dropped their things and rushed forward, hugging the dog and rubbing its head affectionately.

Big Yellow looked noticeably thinner, though not from neglect. Rather, ever since his little masters had left, he’d been in low spirits.

The caretaker who came daily to feed him had told Su Shen that the first few days after they’d gone, Big Yellow had cried constantly. Later, when Chen Xi began bringing the children back for brief visits, the three of them had sat Big Yellow down and earnestly explained the situation.

Miraculously, the dog seemed to understand—he stopped crying after that. But he still ate little. Now, Su Shen knelt down beside him, stroking his fur gently and gazing into those soulful black eyes that were clearly searching for someone.

“Mommy’s going to be back a little later,” he said in a soothing tone. “She has to take care of some things back home. But she misses you very much. She told me to tell you to eat properly, okay?”

Big Yellow gave a soft whine, then lowered his head slowly, as if in agreement.

“Daddy!” Su Li cried out. “Big Yellow just nodded at you! He’s definitely thinking the same thing as us—hurry up and bring Mommy back!”

Su Le quickly joined in, her big eyes wide with urgency. “That’s right! Daddy, you have to bring Mommy back soon! Mommy and the baby are all alone out there… they must be so lonely!”

Su Shen couldn’t help but laugh, albeit a bit helplessly. “Alright, alright. I’ll go as soon as I can. After dinner, we’ll call Mommy together, okay? Will that make you feel better?”

Of course it would. The kids cheered, twirling around him joyfully, while Su Bing had already slipped quietly into the kitchen. He wanted dinner done early tonight—he couldn’t wait to hear his mother’s voice again.

That evening, Su Shen finally dialed the number. As the children clustered eagerly around the phone, a soft, familiar voice filled the room. Just hearing it was enough—the warmth, the calm, the steadiness. It was obvious she was doing well, and everything their father had said matched what Mommy was telling them too.

He hadn’t just been trying to comfort them. That mattered more than anything.

With their little hearts settled at last, the children returned to their studies and daily routines in peace.

Time passed quickly. Not long after, Gu Zi received news that Lin Miao and Zhang Mei had officially been sentenced: five years for Lin Miao, four for Zhang Mei, and a joint fine of 5,000 yuan for damages to Sister Hua Gourmet Shop’s reputation.

Of course, Gu Zi hadn’t expected to see that money anytime soon. Even if someone sold off Lin Miao and Zhang Mei, they wouldn’t be able to scrape together that much.

She didn’t like the mother-daughter pair, but she wasn’t so cruel as to drive them into a corner. Still, only a few days later, someone from the Gong family delivered an envelope to her door: 5,000 yuan in full. A surprise.

Apparently, it was Ms. Chen who had paid the fee out of her own pocket. And this wasn’t just an act of quiet generosity.

Ms. Chen had made sure there were reputable witnesses present. She had clearly documented the money’s purpose and written a letter, now on its way to the prison, to make her intentions crystal clear to Lin Miao and Zhang Mei:

This five thousand yuan, she wrote, severed every tie between the Gong and Gu families. From this moment on, even if they passed each other on the street, they were strangers. She urged Lin Miao to live with dignity, to never seek out her son again.

Because if they dared to cause trouble again, no one—absolutely no one—would come to their defense.
