Beast Taming: the More the Better

Chapter 1288 - 529: Bone Tyrant! Who Is the Real War Machine?

Chapter 1288: Chapter 529: Bone Tyrant! Who Is the Real War Machine?

At the very beginning, when he first discovered the functions of the Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas—long before he had his current reputation and status—the kind of battle Su Ping pursued and dreamed of was exactly what was unfolding right before his eyes.

The formidable power of the Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas made group combat among pet beasts virtually flawless.

Over the recent period, although he hadn’t personally trained this group of Forest Wolf Evolvers—the only ones that had formed a foundational combat strength—Lu Heng had kept up their training. Furthermore, the Shared Connection effect of the Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas was active most of the time.

Because of this, while the realms of these Forest Wolves might not be particularly high, nearly every single skill they possessed was at least at the Proficient Level. In fact, most were either highly Proficient or at Perfection. Aside from the Heart of the Sun skill possessed by the few Wanmu Wolves, this applied to all of their skills. The strength of the Forest Wolf pack was absolutely not determined solely by their realm!

Even when facing relatively unique opponents—such as Ghost Soul-type Undead Element ferocious beasts, which heavily countered melee-focused fighters like the Thorn Wolves—it did not affect the outcome in the slightest! If this Forest Wolf Camp, composed of a hundred Forest Wolves, could be completely countered by a certain type of pet beast, Su Ping wouldn’t have wasted so much of his time, energy, and resources breeding and training them.

The wolf pack charged.

At the same time, thick trees and vines rapidly sprouted from the cold, frozen soil. With almost every passing second, a lush, verdant jungle was born across this desolate, freezing battlefield. However, this jungle absolutely did not represent life. Instead, it brought an even more chilling, lethal intent.

"AWOOOO!"

The high-pitched and synchronized wolf howl, along with the rapidly expanding jungle on the outskirts of the area, drew the attention of the other Beastmaster legion members on the battlefield.

As previously discussed in the command center, the main forces fighting on this battlefield at the head of the Baimu River were the members of the Northern Border Legion’s Sixth Army. Yet, at this moment, the commanding officers and soldiers of the Sixth Army who were holding the line at the perimeter exchanged bewildered glances as they witnessed this scene.

"When did a Forest Wolf Army appear on the Sixth Army’s side? Which battalion’s secret weapon is this?" they wondered.

Although there were plenty of jungles in the Northern Border and they had a long history of utilizing jungle warfare, things were different here. In comparison, Wood Element pet beasts had absolutely no advantage on this cold, death-filled land. Unlike the legions in the combat zones of the Central Plains, the Northern Border Legion primarily relied on Undead-type pet beasts, as well as Ice Element and Wind Element pet beasts. If nothing else, they would choose mutually countering Fire Element pet beasts as their main force. They had never heard of such a Forest Wolf Army before!

However, it was precisely this surprise that caused many people on the fringes of the battlefield to focus their attention on this Forest Wolf Team, which had seemingly charged out of nowhere in the distance.

What they saw left them utterly astounded.

A Beast Tide was called a Beast Tide because the ferocious beasts surged forward like a massive wave. Even though the Ghost Tide at the Baimu River was just a small-scale invasion—nothing compared to the terrifying, endless numbers on the main battlefield—the densely packed frozen surface of the river and its banks were packed tighter than a tin of sardines, with barely an inch of empty space to be seen.

Even though the earlier bombardment of mechanical weapon artillery shells had wiped out a significant number of low-level Skeleton Soldiers and zombies, this meant that most of the cannon fodder had been cleared out. The ones surging forward now were mostly Evolvers like White Bone Demons and Corpse Generals, or other advanced entities. Such entities possessed incredibly high resistance against mechanical weapons. Unless they were caught in the exact center of an explosion, they couldn’t be killed. Consequently, it was extremely difficult to carry out direct, large-scale bombardments.

This also highlighted their true strength. Individually, they might not amount to much. But when they swarmed in groups of tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands—completely fearless of death and willing to trade their lives to inflict injuries—it was nothing short of terrifying.

Therefore, at this point, the vast majority of Beastmaster legions had adopted a strategy of defensive counterattacks. If these Undead died, they died. But every soldier in the Beastmaster legions and their pet beasts were part of the Dragon Nation. It wasn’t that they couldn’t be sacrificed, but they absolutely could not be sacrificed meaninglessly in a situation like this.

Yet, right before their eyes, these shadowy wolves—which had popped out of nowhere and remained half-hidden within the jungle—suddenly crossed the defensive line! Looking like an army descending from the heavens, they charged head-on right into the fierce, menacing Ghost Tide that was rushing toward them!

This scene left many frontline grassroots commanding officers utterly bewildered, prompting them to grab their battlefield radios and question their superiors. However, it was obvious that their superiors were equally clueless about where this small Forest Wolf Evolver Team of only around a hundred members had sprung from. Nevertheless, since there were no new orders from top brass, they could only continue executing their original plan of defensive counterattacks.

At the same time, everyone watched as the faintly visible jungle slowly reached the banks of the Baimu River, gradually colliding with the pitch-black, endless Ghost Tide.

Then, in everyone’s line of sight, the jungle came to a halt. Meanwhile, the endless Ghost Tide acted like a swarm of ants that had just discovered the corpse of a giant insect. They rapidly swarmed and enveloped the jungle, even as the endless wave of "ants" continued surging relentlessly forward like a massive tide.
