Chapter 4145 - One More Chance
Chapter 4145 - One More Chance
"What is it?" the pope of the Tian Jiu Cult asked.
"You would never expect this, but Lord Yue and Empress Xia are plotting together, according to Feng Linxue herself!" Mo Lingji said with a look of disbelief.
"They're working together? Is such an exciting love story possible at a critical juncture like this?" Even he hadn't been aware of that, a testament to how well hidden this all was.
"Truly illuminating indeed," Mo Lingji said.
"The details."
Mo Lingji relayed everything Feng Linxue said, her expression souring as she did. "Our informants near the rear just reported that Empress Xia has sent her ten million elites to our rearguard. We're still struggling on the front. Now that Lord Yue has obtained the Windgod Star Staff, we might be sandwiched between two enemies for good."
"Are you certain that he got the staff?"
"That's what Feng Linxue said. She seemed completely mad, so she asked us for a temporary truce. As for the staff... maybe that's the reason why she has a grudge against Lord Yue. The fact that Empress Xia dares to charge in like that seems to suggest that Lord Yue has indeed obtained the staff and will soon join up with her. Even though they don't have that many, all of them are the cream of the crop. Coupled with their astralguard formation, we'll likely be beaten back if we continue our assault on Grand Feng. Our efforts would be for naught and the only one to benefit would be that bitch of an empress," Mo Lingji said.
The pope looked beneath at the battlefield. If the battle continued, his army would be able to break through in another hour, yet that would open them up to a pincer attack from Lord Yue and Empress Xia, risking the lives of his ninety million troops.
"Pope, we need an order!" Mo Lingji urged.
"Our troops are the foundation of our cult. So far, we haven't suffered heavy losses. Even though our new home is right before us, in a three-sided battle, the first side to be ganged up on would not end up well, and I would not have my cult suffer through that. Since Lord Yue has made his move, his reputation among the kunlan primalwingers will tank, which would create even more chances for us. Let us retreat from the battlefield and watch them fight among themselves!" he announced to his ten elite guards.
"Yes!" That was what they wanted to hear from their pope. Whether Lord Yue had actually gotten his hands on the Windgod Star Staff wasn't important. Their priority was to avoid being ganged up on and wiped out.
"Send the order to regroup and retreat! Maintain the divine-wonder formation!" the pope emphasized. This was an edge that wondermancers had.
"Yes!" The rainbow ball of wonder stopped descending and immediately rose. The cosmic-god wondermancers from the cult grouped together and used their divine wonders as quasi astralships, leaving the frost prison rapidly, which greatly reduced the pressure placed on the defending kunlan primalwingers, much to their relief.
"The Tian Jiu Cult has retreated!"
"We managed to hold on!"
These troops had no idea about the deliberations behind the scenes that led to this outcome, which was expected from their limited outlook. Some of them even thought that their valiant struggle had sent the cultists running off.
"Do not give chase!" the primalwingers reminded each other. They had neither the mettle nor courage to do so anyway as the gigantic ball of wonder could return at any time that they weren't expecting.
"We won!" Such cheers soon resounded across Grand Feng.

Near the top of the frost prison were ten million wondermancers of the Grand Xia imperials. They were gathered together to form thier own gigantic red ball of fire which they had used to descennd into the frost prison towards where the Tian Jiu Cult's forces were. Yet, their descent didn't last long before a ball of wonder ten times the size of the red ball of fire came crashing towards them! "The Tian Jiu Cult is retreating!"
When the flaming figure at the center of the ball of fire heard the news, she coldly said, "Stop them."
"Stop them?" Many Grand Xia imperials were puzzled by the order. How would they stop the ninety million cultists from retreating? By pincering them with the primalwingers? They had doubts, but they didn't dare to question their empress's decision.
"To think that they retreated after hearing about our arrival. Is that pope cowardly or cautious?"
All sorts of explanations spread like wildfire. Yet, the key figure at the center seemed unmoved like a stone sculpture. The ten million elite troops continued to head towards the cultists' forces. It was then when Empress Xia spotted something odd. "Why isn't the frost prison stopping them?"
She took out a gold transmission stone that had the mark of a white fang on it. A white figure was projected from the other side. "Why aren't you using the frost prison to stop them?"
"I failed to gain control," Lord Yue said with a low voice, looking down.
"Failed? Weren't you the one who asked me to attack?" The empress's expression was foul. "Yue Xiao, did you con me with that hundred-thousand-year promise?"
Lord Yue grit his teeth, struggling internally, before sighing. "Xia, give me one more chance."
