Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 599: A nuchal cord

Chapter 599: A nuchal cord

Nikolai’s mind went blank upon hearing Sasha’s words. He glanced at his two beautiful wives for a moment before finally reacting. "Oh, of course." The phone immediately hung up with a few bleeps, but for him, it was as if time slowed to a halt.

Although it wasn’t his first child, it was his first child with Selene!

"Honey, are you alright?"

Kumiko’s emotional intelligence and awareness were second to none; she quickly noticed the change in him and furrowed her brows as she tapped Amphitrite and pulled her back, giving Nikolai some space.

"Hm?"

Amphitrite woke up feeling groggy as she leaned back against the wall.

"Ah? Well..."

Nikolai’s heart started to race; he didn’t want to rush and cause an accident, but hearing that Selene had gone into labour meant she was suffering alone right now. His promise to all his women was that he’d be with them during birth, sickness and difficult times.

"I need to hurry to the medical ward, Selene’s gone into labour."

Despite saying the words, it hadn’t fully sunk in yet.

"Really!?"

"Oh my!"

Kumiko’s misty eyes suddenly snapped open with a flash of light; her previously flirty self vanished as if she switched places with a clone. "Come on then, dear husband. I am sure she wants you to be with her right now."

"Mhm, we can get home just fine. How about you just call for a few maids to pick us up, and you can rush to the hospital?"

’?’

Nikolai looked at the two women who didn’t look upset or wronged. To his surprise, the two began to gossip about how cute the new baby would be. Amphitrite reached out, brushing his cheek with her fingers and winked at him.

"Don’t feel bad, honey. We had an amazing time."

The sudden mind fog faded as he observed his two wives, before wrapping them both in his arms and pulling them close. "You two are too good to me. Come here." He rubbed his face against their necks, kissing and enjoying their sweet scents.

Kumiko and Amphitrite wouldn’t complain; they both relaxed their bodies and allowed Nikolai’s big hands to wrap their waists and leaned on his chest.

A few minutes passed before he finally recovered and glanced at the pair. "I’ll head out to see Selene after I know the maids are here to pick you both up. Okay?"

His consideration brought smiles to their faces as both nodded.

"That’s fine, just don’t stress yourself too much," Kumiko said with a gentle kiss.

Amphitrite didn’t speak; instead, she just hugged him tight one last time before slipping off the bed and grabbing her phone.

’Mature wives are so good, like sensual but wise fairies.’

Not long after she messaged the maids who directly served Nikolai and his wives, the two wrapped themselves in warm clothes and headed downstairs. Of course, Nikolai escorted them both to the parking lot.

Not long after they arrived, a motorcade of vehicles turned into the parking lot. Four customised M8 types appeared, with dimmed windows and armoured chassis.

"Go on."

Nikolai whispered, patting their soft behinds with a smile.

His chest thumped, excitement and a sense of wonder growing like a small explosive flame inside his abdomen. He might have mistaken it for acid if not for the lack of annoying side effects. Nikolai wondered if he might have another girl, or a boy.

"We’re going~ don’t worry, it’ll be fine!"

"See you later, Husband, we’ll gather things needed for Selene!"

The two didn’t complain or cling to him, which confused Nikolai a little, but he truly appreciated how they handled their date being cut short.

’I thought there was another month at least until Selene gave birth....’

A maid ushered him into the central car.

He dropped with a puff, his body sinking into the most comfortable seating he’d ever experienced.

Nikolai closed his eyes, ignoring the maid’s chatter and the radio; his thoughts began to gather, and he focused on his wife in labour and what he needed to do.

’It could take another twenty hours, or more... I need to have things she’ll want afterwards.’

The car slowly drove through S-City while Nikolai gathered his thoughts, tapping his phone and organising several issues. He ordered various baby goods and arranged for extra maids to work as nannies to help both Nikita and Selene cope.

When Nikita was pregnant, he honestly didn’t know what to do and ended up making her worried and stressed. This event left a slight shadow in his mind, and he refused to allow himself to mess up in the same way again.

He sent a message to his mother, Selene’s two mothers and even Vlad, his father-in-law. There were a lot of issues between them.

However, this was his first grandchild!

Nikolai wasn’t petty enough to leave its grandfather out of this.

Usually, Nikolai enjoyed watching the passing world from the windows, but right now all that he thought about was Selene. She was a woman that he’d clashed with at first, then once they became closer, Selene became sweeter than he could imagine.

As his women started to give birth, Nikolai’s sense of purpose and his desire to become stronger to protect them grew explosively. He could still remember the rooftop where he almost lost Dhalia and Nikita!

’I can’t relax...’

Once his emotions settled, he opened his tablet and began to look through his emails. The work of a patriarch wasn’t so glamorous, and with the digital age, Nikolai needed to check, sign and deny hundreds of petitions and requests each day.

The biggest issue right now is how to divide the south without playing favourites; both the Tepes, Fenrir, and SSS helped during that event.

So despite taking most of the land through Sarah and Anastasia’s quick actions during the aftermath, he couldn’t just forget their aid.

He’d promised too many people.

While agonising about the future and issues people complained about, the car pulled up beside the medical building.

"Already here?" A little shocked, Nikolai finally realised how preoccupied he was.

Nikolai didn’t wait for the maids to react or help him out of the car; he immediately pushed it open and rushed into the medical building with a look of pure determination.

In the medical room, Selene’s low groans became more frequent, each one sharper than the last as she gripped the metal bars beside her, the reinforced alloy creaking faintly under her strength. Sweat dampened her temples, strands of silver hair sticking to her cheeks as her breathing turned uneven.

"Ngh... hhaa..."

"That contraction was much stronger," Anastasia said, eyes fixed on the monitor. "... and the time between them became shorter too."

Sasha didn’t answer immediately. Her fingers moved rapidly across the holographic display, isolating several readings, until her pupils suddenly shrank.

"... That’s not good."

Selene’s ears picked up everything; beads of sweat poured down her cheeks. She glanced at Anastasia, who rushed to whisper with Sasha. The two tried to hide their voices, and Sasha magnified the scan, revealing a three-dimensional projection.

"The umbilical cord is looped. Around the neck."

Anastasia’s shoulders stiffened. "A nuchal cord?"

"Not a simple one, because of the strong contractions, the last one tightened extremely during the last surge."

Selene gripped the bed, unaware of the situation. Her face twisted as she called out Nikolai’s name in her heart.

As if by magic, before Anastasia could respond, the door slammed open.

"Nikolai."

His face dripped with sweat, his eyes filled with concern, snapped to Selene as he practically dashed into the medical room wearing cleansed scrubs. He quickly took Selene’s hand and glanced at the doctors and nurses, hard at work.

Selene turned her head, eyes widening before softening instantly. "You came..."

"How could I miss this, silly girl?" With a bright smile, he wiped the sweat from her cheeks and forehead with a cooling cloth. "I’m here," he said, already at her side. He took her hand, feeling the tremor in her fingers, the heat of her skin. "I’m not going anywhere."

Nikolai noticed Sasha and Anastasia’s faces.

"What’s up?" He asked with a powerful voice.

Sasha turned to him sharply. "This is complicated. The cord—"

His gaze shifted to the projection, then back to Selene’s stomach. The aura from Selene’s body showed pain, delight, worry, fear, happiness... but he could see it inside her, a slight aura of black... the aura of death.

’No, no, no... not like this.’

Anastasia swallowed. "We need to act carefully. One wrong move—"

"Hurry! I don’t care what happens. Please save my child. I trust you all." Nikolai knew the doctor’s pressure; he was their lord, the patriarch. If something happened to his children, how would the clan treat them, or their families? "I won’t blame you, it is all on me!" He tried to reassure them, but their terrified eyes said it all.

"W-We..."

"Hurry!" Sasha insisted, her eyes red as she watched the screen, unable to hold back her emotions. This was a life, something she always found sacred, even after the countless evils she had committed under the Nosferatu clan’s orders.

’This is too slow!’

Nikolai couldn’t wait any longer; he turned to Sasha and his aunt with pleading eyes.

"Please, help me. Guide me!"

Selene tightened her grip on his hand. "Nikolai...?"

"I trust them," he said softly, then leaned closer. "But it seems they cannot trust themselves. Let me help you relieve the pain. Okay, be good."

Sasha stared at him for a long second, then nodded sharply. "Alright. Listen carefully."

The only reason he took this upon himself was his superhuman reflexes and abilities that surpassed mortality once reaching the Ancestor level. Under her instructions, Nikolai positioned himself, hands steady despite the tension constricting his chest. He wouldn’t give up and listened to their orders.

Thankfully, the doctors also supported him, their eyes a lot less fearful after he accepted the responsibility.

Like this, they began their task of saving the baby.
