Chapter 608: You Had a Tail?!
Chapter 608: You Had a Tail?!
Nikolai glanced at Princess Zara, his eyes trailing down her plump, sexy figure, before he noticed a thick, swaying tail protruding from her buttocks and dancing in the air.
"Hey, when did you have a tail?"
He couldn’t remember seeing one in the past, or even when he met her as a street merchant in the past, but when he asked her, the tail instantly shrank as if sucked back into her body as she covered her cheeks with all four hands.
"H-How could you ask a lady such a thing?!"
’This might be the first instance where she appeared so cute and adorable,’ he thought.
"Oh my~ this young man doesn’t know." A mature djinn with two pairs of arms holding shopping and various items in a basket chuckled to another beside her.
"Shh~ you know what it’s like for off-worlders. They don’t know our dating rituals and these cute little things. It seems the pretty girl is smitten with him." The older Djinn guffawed as they left the street with gleeful eyes.
’Hm?’
After hearing the two women, he also noticed a few warm gazes from the many people running small stalls around them. That’s when he noticed something and realised how blind he was before.
Older, more mature Djinn showed their tails, their arms without issue.
However, the younger Djinn, especially those who were coupled with males or females who didn’t have tails, only showed one pair of arms.
’What does this mean?’
Nikolai glanced at Zara with beaming eyes.
Princess Zara’s eyes darted from side to side as she turned away, with flushed cheeks.
"Brother, what’s wrong?"
Clara, oblivious to the social and emotional cues, broke the moment, but the embarrassed Zara showed a bright smile and hugged the little fairy.
"That’s my Clara!"
He wanted to learn more, but Princess Zara insisted they first eat a meal, then she would connect with someone she knew.
"Quick, let’s go to my aunt’s hotel first!"
Nikolai could only shake his head and watch Zara drag Clara to the large hotel on the second corner ahead of them. He couldn’t help but smile as he jogged forward, curious and determined to find out more.
.
.
.
"Phew, here we are."
The hotel looked amazing, at least to Nikolai’s aesthetics, with the rounded towers at the four corners, a true Middle Eastern style, with a flat roof. He found dozens of cats lying around the entrance, all clean, well-groomed and healthy.
"Zara, are these cats wild?"
She stopped near the entrance and glanced back, her mouth open. "Oh, to us these cats are important..."
Zara stopped from entering, then gently stroked the silky fur of a black cat which hopped onto her shoulder, purring. "You see, in the Djinn beliefs, our ancestors and mythologies all worshipped cats or cat-like beings... as there is a rumour the god who protected our kind and gave birth to us was a feline."
Nikolai listened to her tale about the source of the Djinn’s magic, how it was something they gained from their feline goddess, who, although playful, adored their kind to the end.
At some point, a beautiful, blue-skinned djinn with six arms leaned against the entrance with a long pipe in her lips, puffing smoke as she listened to the bright and excited voice of Zara. Nikolai noticed the woman, but she just winked and nodded at him before placing a finger on her lips to shush him.
When her tale ended, her bright eyes shone.
"Do you want to know anything else?!"
"I’d love to learn more, but shall we get inside? You look a little cold right now."
He couldn’t help but notice the sharp drop in temperature when the sun vanished, and Zara, who wore light clothes, trembled slightly while telling him about their goddess and fondness for cats, but this made her friendship with Risa make sense.
The mature beauty at the doorway gave another mysterious thumbs up to Nikolai, but he could only give a vague nod and bitter smile.
"Who are you nodding to?" Zara tilted her head.
"Meow~"
Suddenly, the cat on her shoulder jumped free, stretching its back legs with a low purr, before rushing to the mature beauty and pawing at her shin. "Oh my, are you hungry again, little one?"
Once her husky voice sounded, Zara jumped out of her skin.
"AUNTY?!"
"Oh my, you finally notice me, little Zara? Your poor aunt stood here for almost an hour listening to you flirting with that handsome man."
"F-Flirting?! Who, Aunty! What are you talking about?"
Nikolai hadn’t seen Zara react like this; he just watched with relish as Clara skipped to his side and grabbed his cuff, watching beside him.
"Little Z, didn’t you notice your arms and tail appearing whenever you speak to him? It’s the first time I’ve seen your little tail since you were still in little nappies."
"AUNTY!"
The Princess of all Djinn blushed bright red and covered her aunt’s lips.
It was at this moment that Nikolai also realised that in front of their mothers, aunts and older family members, even the most mature and sensual people became children again. He couldn’t stand against his mother, or Nagisa, so seeing Madame Zara, who oozed confidence, being so cute, made him feel there was a balance in the world.
"Now, now, stop complaining. Get inside, wash your hands, feet and get in the kitchen with me. Don’t you want to treat this handsome boy to the best we have?"
"A-Aunty... please."
Zara’s hair moved as if it were part of her body. When she looked upset, it drooped and curled, then, when excited, several bits stuck up as she spoke or reacted.
"Hahahaha, okay, okay, little Z, you’ve become so adorable. Come inside, handsome and pretty little fairy." With a wink, her sensual aunt invited them into the large hotel. To Nikolai’s shock, the moment he stepped inside, the cold and harsh air vanished instantly.
A cooling breeze, akin to air conditioning, spread through the entire entrance.
"Wow, how is it so cool?"
Her aunt turned around, leaning on the desk while twirling her pipe, "Thanks to the humans and inventions in your world, we made an air conditioning system that uses soul power to function. Isn’t it amazing?"
’What?!’
He was instantly jealous.
The cost of Air conditioning in his world, if people could manifest their soul force or power to run this, how much would the world benefit?
"Amazing, how did you manage to do that?"
"Hmmm~ well, if you become family one day. Maybe I’ll spill the secrets."
Zara’s aunt seemed like a jovial person; her fluffy black hair bounced with each action, just like her plump hips that swayed. "Come now, I’ve already booked the best room for you."
Nikolai followed, but the blushing Princess could only passively follow her aunt, although she mentioned someone coming. It was such a big loss to have her feelings seen through so easily; she wanted to act more cold and proud when dealing with Nikolai.
"Let’s go, Clara."
He took her hand while admiring the design and subtle, intricate decorations that brought a sense of class to the inn. Although the walls appeared to be made with the same red material that resembled sand or mud from outside, he couldn’t call it anything other than refined and beautiful, with the tiny cursive writing across the pillars clearly handwritten.
’I don’t understand Djinn enough.’
’All I can tell is it’s some kind of blessing or passage of worship.’
When they reached the dining room, Nikolai took a moment to take a breath, and the intense fruity scents of the vegetables and various sauces filled his nose. Then the sizzling meats and oils frying created a burst of flavour in his enhanced nose.
’Wow...’
Sweet, bitter, spicy and savoury all mixed, driving his hunger to max.
Normally, Werewolves wouldn’t feel this other than when hunting, or being hunted by their significant other. For food to achieve this level of arousal of senses, he could only bow to the chefs working so hard.
A race born in the cold, frozen tundras, their meals lacked such vibrant spices and flavours. Maybe the pure heat might be nostalgic, but the spice in a frozen world couldn’t compare to the mixed spice of this Arabian paradise.
"Oh my, it seems your handsome friend likes the food."
"Eh, what do you mean... oh?"
Zara and her aunt turned back to see Nikolai’s body standing in place, his eyes closed as she lifted his nose, sniffing the air slowly with deep breaths.
At this sight, Zara grabbed her smartphone and quickly took several snaps and a video.
"So handsome."
While this happened, her aunt leaned over her shoulder, tapping her pipe into a nearby bin and lighting some more of the deliciously scented herb. "And you say you don’t feel anything. Do you think I haven’t raised you from a little sprout, Zara?"
"Aunt!"
"Mm~ just tell him the truth, I bet you used some stupid reason to bring him here. Especially with how things are, right?" Her aunt’s words sounded strange, but Zara’s expression changed as she glanced around twice and noticed that, despite the kitchen being so busy, the number of guests in the inn was just them.
"Is something happening, Aunt?"
"Later, let’s just enjoy the meal tonight, yes? Little niece."
Unable to deny or push further at the forlorn expression on her aunt’s face, Zara could only nod and smile. "Of course."
With a smile, her aunt’s face restored its smile.
She patted Zara’s second pair of arms. "It seems that after meeting this boy, your complex about your arms has vanished."
"E-Eh?" Zara appeared confused before she glanced at Nikolai and then nodded. "Mhm, it no longer matters that I only have two pairs... even if they might spurn or hate me for being a half-breed, an embarrassment. I am still of Royal blood."
"That’s my Zara."
"Mhm."
"Then don’t forget to tell him the reason you’ve been revealing those arms and your tail to him so blatantly, you don’t want to miss this chance, do you? I can tell from his abundant soul force that this boy is likely a royal and a very important one at that, right?"
Her aunt looked sad for a moment. "Don’t be like your aunt and delay, missing out on their chance forever."
The younger Djinn could only watch her Aunt’s forlorn expression as she stepped into the kitchen, the huge scar on her back a sign of regret and her reason to nag.
"I understand Aunty..." Zara muttered under her breath.
