Chapter 610: Insurgent
Chapter 610: Insurgent
Nikolai’s head rang with a constant buzz.
He tried to stand, enduring the searing burn that travelled along his back like bullet ants biting his flesh in a frenzy. His arms drooped, the bone showing as two soft bodies, untouched and still clean, dropped.
A thick layer of dirt, smoke, and grit coated his fur and flesh as he finally stood, with a trembling gait.
’My legs feel like tofu.’
Without a care for himself, he quickly channelled his blood, forcing his wounds to heal forcibly, the sounds of gunfire and explosions still happening in the distance.
Immediately after the bang, he grabbed Clara and Zara in his arms and transformed into his werewolf form, covering them both.
"Ugh, Aunt?"
Once he regained focus, he called out to Princess Zara’s Aunt, hoping that she managed to cover herself. That’s when the vile scene entered his sight: two scorched bodies, with hardened flesh and tendrils spread into sheet-like shapes, wrapping something.
"Oh no, are these those two people?"
When he spoke, his normally gruff voice sounded even deeper because of the sharp, dry atmosphere around them.
Nikolai’s enormous figure pushed the broken table aside and stepped closer to the charcoal corpses, gently peeling them away.
What he didn’t expect was for them to crumble; his heart dropped upon seeing the figure below, although she lacked the burns. He could see dozens of abrasions and wounds from her chest to her cheeks from shrapnel.
Nobody seemed awake, so he could only deal with it himself.
"Damn it."
Squelch!
He bit his hand. His fangs sank deep into his palm, drawing a sweet, sticky black blood that poured onto the body of Zara’s Aunt; the more he bit, the better. Normally, Nikolai would try to hide this, but how could he now?!
Almost instantly, her wounds began to heal, while being him, he could feel an aura not weaker than a Great Elder approaching.
And not just one!
"Did we get her?!"
"Shh! What if they managed to avoid death?!"
"Hurry, to the dining room, we have to finish the job."
Shling!
The sound of drawn blades reverberated from below.
Nikolai’s face twisted with rage.
A searing flame burned him from the inside, along with the sharp tingling pressure from the explosive force, creating a sudden burst of speed.
He bounced off the ground, kicking with both feet. His tail lashed, wrapping both Zara and Clara, tossing them to the opposite side of the room. Since her Aunt came from that hidden room, he knew more of them existed.
It was just a matter of time.
Nikolai’s body landed above the stairs with a thud. Bricks collapsed, and the stairs themselves looked terrible after his weight had crushed the damaged flooring.
"Who are you?!" The first swordsman shouted.
A Djinn with two arms, baggy white pants and a jacket exposing his abdomen, shouted with a huge curved blade while facing him.
Behind him, two similarly dressed Djinn followed, but Nikolai noticed the strange colour of their skin. Unlike traditional Djinn, he’d met with light blue, pink or purple skin. It was deep green, with dark spots.
"I am the one asking questions here."
Swoosh!
The heaven-slaying spear looked like a toothpick at first, before it swelled in thickness to suit his transformed state.
When Nikolai spun the spear, all three Djinn’s gazes became serious.
"It’s the werewolf!"
"That means the princess should be here!"
"Attack!"
Their loud voices shocked Nikolai for a moment.
The men took advantage of this and leapt up with the force of Great Elders, three blades stabbing towards his chest in a triangular formation.
’They shouted for reinforcements!’
Nikolai’s head still buzzed from the explosion, likely concussed.
Yet he could deal with this trash!
He lunged forward, ignoring the blades aimed at his chest and with a wide sweep, the blade of his spear cut through the air like a reaper’s scythe.
Slash!
Two heads dropped, and the third male stood half-kneeling on the stairs, holding his missing arm, begrudgingly glaring at Nikolai.
"Filthy Infidel! How dare you get in the way of our glorious path!" He shouted with a hoarse, bloody growl.
However, Nikolai just snapped his fingers.
Instantly, the severed arm began to freeze, the ice crystals mercilessly devouring the entire body of the third Djinn. He didn’t kill him, but completely sealed his movements, then jumped down and knocked him out with a quick blow to the back of the man’s neck.
"Let’s have Zara and her aunt deal with this guy later."
Without waiting, he tossed the unconscious, half-frozen Djinn over his shoulder and returned to the room. For a moment, his hair stood on end when he found several figures wrapped in black cloth, hiding their faces and intent.
"Who are you?!" He shouted.
The five females turned to face Nikolai, noticing the green Djinn on his shoulder instantly, and their aggression exploded.
"Name yourself, or die as an insurgent!"
Nikolai swallowed the warm, sticky fluid gathering in his throat.
A familiar taste of his blood, he knew the explosion dealt more damage than his blood could heal instantly, but facing these strange Djinn who were taking Zara and Clara away, he couldn’t help but pretend to be strong as he stepped forward.
"Leave Zara here!"
In this situation, he called the name of the highest-ranking Djinn. If he called Clara, would these people know who that was?
Who wouldn’t know their princess, at least that’s what he thought.
"Where is her aunt’s body?!"
"How dare you speak the princess’s name!"
He shouted twice before another explosion came from outside, causing both his and the five women’s eyes to sharpen.
At this, the leading female suddenly lowered her face mask and revealed a young, pretty oval face that resembled Zara’s aunt at least by 60%.
"Forget such idle things, are you a member of their Insurgent group or not?"
"How could I be? I am here with Zara to help her take control and protect her as her spouse."
"!!!"
Instantly, the five women’s eyes widened, and they glanced at the princess before going back to the huge, hulking werewolf.
Their eyes seemed confused and doubtful.
However, at this untimely moment, his transformation faded, and with the explosion burning his clothes, a naked Nikolai appeared before them.
A wave of exhaustion and weakness spread through his limbs like a curse. He wanted to stand firm, but the world suddenly turned black.
.
.
.
Thud!
The handsome brute fell with a loud noise.
Zana glanced at the face of her cousin, then at the werewolf who just collapsed, before sighing. "Take him with us."
"But commander?!"
"Don’t make me say it twice... and find something to cover up that.... that tendril of his!"
Without looking again, she carried the small Clara in her tendrils, while watching another carry her cousin and mother. It wasn’t a planned attack; the enemy heard of Princess Zara appearing and hastily tried to assassinate her.
"We cannot linger. Head to the secondary Safehouse, take separate routes."
Zana couldn’t help but sigh.
She always told her mother not to push her luck.
With the increasing number of insurgents in the capital after their older cousin took the throne, all the other clans sought to usurp the throne.
"So this is the man you brought to help you?" Zana muttered as she leapt through the window and vanished into a puff of pink mist.
She just hoped that he could help her cousin and take the burden from her mother’s shoulders.
.
.
.
A low crackle sounded, followed by the comfortable warmth of a fire and the sweet scent of a buttered curry spread through the room.
Nikolai’s eyes slowly opened. His body no longer screamed in pain, only leaving a dull ache as he pushed himself up, holding the press-up position. He continuously opened and closed his eyes while glancing around the small room.
"Where am I?"
His question received no answer, but the moment he shifted, his hand grasped something, large, squishy and comfortable.
"Hmm~" A sweet voice slipped from Zara’s lips as she shifted on the soft bedding, her eyes fluttered open, as something gently pinched her chest... "S-Stop..."
"Ah?"
That’s when their gazes met, and Nikolai could only smile, his hand grasping her soft mound, gently squeezing it again as if to examine the quality.
’What a pleasant feeling...’
Unlike human skin, the flesh of a Djinn felt firmer and, to endure the scorching desert, their bodies absorbed cold much better than human skin, leaving a cooling chill across the surface.
Smooth, plump and cold.
"Can you let go now?" Zara’s pink cheeks became a deeper red as she lifted her arms, unable to think clearly because of the sudden awakening.
"Yeah, ’course."
Nikolai pulled back, his body still half-naked, apart from the sheet tied at his waist. He leaned back, and the cold surface chilled his back. "Are you alright, Zara?" He didn’t have to rush, since the atmosphere of the room and the smell of curry matched the restaurant from earlier.
’This is a safe place, at least for now.’
"I’m alright, but... but what happened?"
She couldn’t remember quite what happened, only that they enjoyed the curry and then...a noise.
"A bang?"
"While we were eating, some people that your cousin called Insurgents attacked, they blew up half the restaurant and your aunt was injured too."
Princess Zara looked shocked at first, then she started tapping her chin, lost in thought.
Nikolai watched her with a smile.
He could feel Clara’s energy beside him, the little fairy snoring without issues, allowing him to focus on the issue at hand.
"W-Wait, you said my cousin? Y-You, have you met Zana?!"
Nevertheless, things never went as he wanted, and the moment he glanced up at the princess, he noticed her twisted face and strange expression.
It was at this untimely moment that the door knocked and opened.
In came the pretty and well-endowed Zana, her heavy chest swaying like a pair of overly ripe melons.
At this sight, Zara lunged at Nikolai, covering his eyes.
"Don’t look!"
