Chapter 642: The Melancholy Prince
Chapter 642: The Melancholy Prince
"I envy you, Brother-in-law." Vladik pushed open the door, leading to an elegant room with a red velvet sofa and matching decor. Nikolai leaned against the bay window, watching the passing merchants and warriors.
"Hm?"
Nikolai leaned back, holding a glass of purple wine to his lips, while wearing a devilish smile. He lifted his brows, noticing the sunken cheeks of Vladik, but remained quiet about the stories between couples.
"What do you mean, brother?" He swilled his wineglass, watching the beautiful starry sky reflected upon the surface.
"Today, Balthazar sent his fifth warrior chief to seal the portal, but thanks to a mysterious group of maids with werewolf features, he failed." Vladik approached Nikolai while spreading his hands and shaking his head. "What a damn lucky bastard, to have so many beauties all vying for your love and attention."
"Oi, I’ll tell my sister-in-law!"
"Whoa, brother... w-wait, let’s just wait now, okay?"
"Haha, how come you’re nothing like this when Zara is around?"
"Eh, man..."
The two exchanged glances before shaking their heads. "Give me a glass of that, it smells amazing." Vladik dropped beside Nikolai with a loud huff.
"Won’t your wife beat you again?"
He still prepared another glass of the slightly chilled wine, a strange Al’Qutar wine which needed to be chilled to improve the soul-refining chemicals. "Say... what exactly do these soul-refining chemicals do?"
Nikolai found this drink to be just as comforting as bloodwine. When he started drinking after sleeping with Zara, his mood and the heat from Clara’s powers soon vanished as if he had gained a kind of resistance.
Vladik threw his head back, drinking half the blue concoction, before grinning at Nikolai, "What, it’s nothing special. It’s said to be created with a sacred fruit that only grows in the holy land where Ishtar fell."
"That sounds hella special!?"
"Tsk, you’re no fun." He swilled his glass, copying Nikolai with a mocking smile. "It just boosts the recovery of depleted soul force, and there’s a rumour that the original recipe allowed people to increase the amount of their inherent soul force."
Nikolai raised his brows before pausing and stopping mid-sip.
"Hm, original?"
"Yeah, it’s got a lot to do with your little fairy. Apparently, the ones who used to serve as Ishatar’s maidens were from the fairy race."
The words passed through Nikolai’s ears before he suddenly registered what Vladik told him, and his eyes widened.
"Then the royal library... is the true reason she can enter."
"Bing Bong! Yes, it’s because there are documents, weathered and old, which our warriors found around the time that bastard attacked my father, and caused the accident." Vladik’s face scrunched up into a foul glare.
Smash!
Vladik crushed the glass in his hand, squeezing his palm tight.
A blue liquid oozed between his fingers, staining the expensive white rug.
"I think the reason my damn Uncle wanted to overthrow my father so soon was those documents. But thanks to my wife, we managed to seal them in the highest level of the library. But my dear Uncle seems unwilling to let them go."
A cold light flashed in his eyes before his shoulders shuddered, and the warmth returned to them. "Sorry, I just get so angry when I think of everything that happened. My sister became so shocked and struggled to trust people, even me, her brother..."
"Hmm, why would she not trust you?"
Nikolai cocked his head, taking another glass and filling it with the viscous wine.
"Ah, it’s because of that damn council, when my father first passed, they began to rush in putting someone they could use on the throne." He then pointed to his face with both index fingers. "Your’s truly. But, the issue was the elders loyal to my father, who whispered lies into my sister’s ears... that I wanted her seat, her title."
’I see, it makes sense. Maybe the loyal ones didn’t do it out of blind loyalty but because they wanted to keep their positions.’
"Was that why she ran away?"
Vladik snapped his head, grimacing at Nikolai, but soon relaxed with a sigh.
"Tsk, you really know how to strike a brother’s sore spots. Little kid! Yeah, she didn’t get along with Verna, and I was too immature and selfish at the time."
Nikolai couldn’t help but imagine the young Zara fleeing the city without much luggage and jumping into the nexus warp gate after meeting her aunt. "So, did she leave the planet or visit her aunt Verda first?"
"Heh!" Vladik smirked at Nikolai. "You know her well. She rushed to my aunt, knowing she was her guardian. Aunt Verda couldn’t refuse her request. Then she suddenly vanished... and although Aunt Verda kept me updated, because I became so sick, things became worse and worse, until one night I woke up and found her in my room waiting."
The image of a more mature Zara, frustrated but proud after surviving in the wild for several years, sat with her legs crossed and frowning as she finally prepared herself to face her brother.
Strange emotions, trying to understand everything.
He knew how intelligent she was and assumed she returned, realising the truth.
"How did it go then?"
"Well... let me tell you, the woman you’ve accepted is quite violent." Vladik lifted his hair, revealing a deep mark across the back of his neck. "This is a scar from her attacking me with a damn sword, screaming about taking too long to reach out, haha. Damn, the women around me are scary."
"But you’re smiling."
"Eh?"
"Whenever you talk about them, your eyes glow, and you smile like a lottery winner."
Vladik’s mouth opened, but then he pointed at Nikolai.
"Idiot, have you seen yourself. I didn’t know how you felt about my sister, but ever since the day she got shot, your emotions and face change so much when we talk about her. Hey~ have you fallen deeply in love with my sister?"
’This idiot... he reminds me of Ryan.’
"Well, enough to give you a little nephew or niece."
The moment Nikolai’s snarky response left his lips, he felt a chill in the air, and suddenly felt the urge to flee the room.
"You... what did you do to my sister?!"
Vladik became enraged, drawing a curved broadsword and pointing it at Nikolai’s throat.
"Tell me, or I will ask your flesh, boy!"
’Shit!’

Meanwhile, back on Earth, Zara was lying in a large Roman-style bath, her back resting against the cool wall with bubbles and vibrant pink water from the bath bomb.
"Oh~ look at how smooth her skin is now." A fluffy white-haired woman with a petite build stroked Zara’s extended arm with her fingertips. "After becoming a mother, I just can’t help but feel my skin isn’t the same..."
"I know!" Selene’s shout came from the opposite side, her legs spread wide as she floated with a small bottle of rice wine on a wooden tray. "Ever since I gave birth, it’s been so strange, my body aches, and I suddenly cannot stand things I used to love eating."
"Don’t say that~ you make me worry for the little ones..." A fluffy voice came from the kitsune who sat beside Selene, holding a small bottle of juice in her hand. She held her stomach, the large bump now more obvious when naked.
The four women enjoyed the hot baths, speaking about various things. Today was the first time Zara came to the Mansion of wives. All times before she came to the science building or the place for staff.
"So, don’t you think Nikolai’s become super hot since he became a dad?" This time, it was Risa who sat under a hot shower; behind her, Leona helped apply special oils to her tail and silky black hair.
"Oh god!" Amphetrite bit her lip as she climbed into the baths, her stomach also swollen to the same level as Kumiko’s; she waddled slightly before slipping into the bath with a splash, her breasts jiggling as the tips leaked a sweet scented sap. "The way he lifts those girls, and tosses them in the air... have you seen how thick his forearms are?!"
"Keke, I prefer his ass... don’t you think it’s perkier?" Nikita paddled in the water, her eyes peaking at the various-sized breasts in the water. Her face became dark as she grabbed her own, pulling on them softly.
That’s when she spotted her prey. "Hey! Risa, get in here."
"What?! Shut up, I’m doing my hair, stop swishing in the damn bath, you dog!"
"Keh! Flat-chested women are so angry at the world!"
"Oh my~ flat-chested?" Kumiko’s arm hung beneath her huge pillows, softly lifting them with a splash as she narrowed her eyes at Nikita.
"O-Oi~ don’t look at my tits, you perverted fox!"
"Kukuku, why do you always act so childish when he’s not around?" Amphitrite chuckled, shifting closer to Kumiko. Then leaned over to Selene and poked her cheek. " Hey~ where are Anya and Luna?"
"Those two... well, since she missed out on her date with Nikolai, she seemed a little determined to make him crazy about her. Lunaria seems to want to be a big sister for once and is helping teach her to be more modest and sexy."
Time flew by from the moment Zara came to the Mansion.
She thought about Clara’s safety and wondered how Leona could be so talented.
But most of all...
"I wonder what he’s doing~"
"What’s Nikolai doing?"
"Is darling okay?"
"I bet baby misses me so much~"
A series of voices came together as their eyes met.
Laughter and vigorous splashes soon filled the private bathroom.
