Chapter 647: To meet under the moonlight
Chapter 647: To meet under the moonlight
Nikolai eventually sated his desires; the dense time with Sarah came to an end, with her unable to walk, remaining in the room. He stepped into the main hall of Vladik’s palace. Tonight would be a banquet related to Zara’s death.
Unlike a wake, the Djinn celebrated life and death.
Tonight was the celebration of Zara’s life, and after today, Nikolai would lose his title and powers.
"Brother-in-law."
"Nikolai? Are you having a good evening?"
He thought that being a king would mean sitting on a throne, ignoring the other people and dealing with important business. But in Al’Qutar, the king and queen spent time with the guests, speaking, drinking and lamenting together.
"It’s as good as it could be."
Vladik’s lips twitched as he leaned closer, whispering in Nikolai’s ear.
"Don’t lie, I know you’ve done nothing but fornicate with that woman for the twelve hours!"
"Eh, how did you know?" Nikolai shrugged, pretending to be shocked.
His brother then showed a proud expression and lifted his glass, "Don’t underestimate the Royal maids!" Then he became serious and frowned. "If you hurt my sister, don’t forget that I will hunt you down and kill you."
’This kid...’
Nikolai shook his head and returned the favour.
"Zara saw me sleeping with multiple women, and when I stayed with your Aunt, she watched me do Clara. Do you think she would mind another?"
"Tch, should I just kill you now, bastard?!"
The two bickered for a while before a tall shadow suddenly approached them from behind, someone who ruined the atmosphere for both Vladik and Nikolai.
"My favourite son-in-law, how could you not greet me?"
Once again, Vladik’s atmosphere warped, his face turned pale, and he glanced at Nikolai helplessly. He turned to face the tall blue Djinn and gave a disgustingly twisted smile to the man, clearly gloating about Zara’s death.
"F-Father!" Vladik spread his arms, "It’s great to see you. I trust you received the invite?"
Nikolai silently sipped his wine, watching their stupid act.
His father-in-law’s eyes shifted to Nikolai for a moment before he started to chuckle, slapping Vladik’s shoulder with excess force.
"Of course, of course! With the tragic death of my Niece, how could I miss this event?
’Bastard...’
The glass in Nikolai’s hand warped, almost smashing under the pressure of his grip. A raging pressure ripped through his muscles, chest and mind. Even though it wasn’t real, he just couldn’t stand this man.
’Zara, I see how you suffered now.’
Vladik spoke with his father-in-law, almost sickeningly buttering him up, before the old man stepped closer to Nikolai.
"Hmph, it seems you’ve not left yet."
This time, he didn’t add the insult about his race, but Nikolai could almost taste the venom hidden under his tongue.
"Greetings, I don’t believe I know your name, old man."
"Y-You!"
He lifted his fist, almost lunging at Nikolai, if not for the small Vladik wrapping himself around the old man’s waist and begging.
"F-Father, please... not tonight."
"Heh, just tonight. If this dog dares to bark in the wrong garden, it should be put down." Nikolai half thought the old man would leave, but then he offered his hand. "I am the champion of Shamash, leader of the Balthazari. Marduke."
Nikolai eyed up the tall blue Djinn, their builds similar, but after learning the effectiveness of keeping lean, he’d started cutting and reducing muscle size in the gym. ’With so many women, and three princesses to play with, endurance trumps explosive strength.’
He extended his hand, thinking of how the little wolves could now play games a six or seven-year-old might play.
’But they have super strength, speed and senses...’
The surface of Marduke’s hand felt rough, with countless calluses and tough patches along his palm.
Nikolai, however, became lost in thought about Elizabeth and Viktoria, who loved to cheat when playing hide and seek. ’Hehe~ Daddy’s scent was coming from here!’
But the most terrifying child was Dhalia, who stepped up to her mother and said. ’Papa’s scent is strongest from mom...’
Crunch!
A sudden tightness snapped Nikolai out of his memories. He glanced down at the blue hand of Marduke, which gripped him tightly, almost squeezing his hand.
’Is this old man serious?’
Despite his best efforts, Maruke failed.
Nikolai lifted his glance, almost bursting into laughter at Marduke’s state.
Dark blue veins popped from his temples, and along his throat, his blue skin turned a dark purple shade as he gritted his teeth.
"Is something wrong, Marduke?"
"Ugh..." The cockey patriarch struggled to speak.
’Idiot.’
A soft crunch of bones sounded the moment Nikolai tightened his grip ever so slightly, the sound enough for Vladik’s eyes to widen. "Brother?!"
"Ngh... brother? What do you mean, Vladik?"
Marduke’s face twisted in agony as he tried to adjust himself, yanking his hand free from Nikolai’s grasp, glaring at him before snappily turning away and lecturing Vladik again. "If you don’t keep a leash on your filthy pets, the house will become soiled."
’Forget it.’
Nikolai could crush him now; today was supposed to be the banquet for Zara.
However, he couldn’t help but dislike the strange feeling in his chest when holding a mourning banquet for his living wife.
’Hopefully, it doesn’t count as tempting fate.’
He decided to abandon Vladik as revenge for his constantly acting so soft and pathetic whenever Marduke appeared. Nikolai soon found his sister and aunt-in-laws standing together chatting over a wine.
"Doesn’t it feel strange to be offered condolences for Zara?" Verna teased her in-law, poking her cheek with a grin.
"Tsk, don’t push your luck, brat~ if not for my lovely Zara asking me to behave. Otherwise, don’t think I won’t spank your butt like old times?"
Verda grabbed the smaller Djinn’s shoulders and shook her.
The scene was quite comical for Nikolai; he didn’t know the dynamics of Zara’s family at all a few weeks ago. Now he understood that everyone here adored her, and each of them was waiting for her choice in their own ways.
’She’s like the glue between this ragtag bunch.’
The times he felt a sense of kinship with her made more sense the more he learned.
Nikolai was the glue of several renowned and royal clans of various monsters through marriage, which helped his clan and the peace of S-City happen much faster.
Thanks to the brutal Fenrir, the organised Volkov teaming up through marriage his father and uncle Dimitri blazed through the smaller clans, destroying those related to Nosferatu and annexing the other clans.
’To think the little gangsters I met a year ago are now captains...’
He vaguely remembered a werewolf that he’d fought beside after awakening; that bald fool now led fifty people and ran several nightclubs.
In the middle of the banquet, as her former fiancé, many people avoided him as was customary.
Nikolai liked this.
A moment of peace to enjoy wine!
Each sip of the wine brought memories and thoughts that Nikolai didn’t have the leeway to consider. ’I should hold a grand wedding, a night alone with each of my wives. It should be after they give birth. Maybe starting with Kumiko, Anya, Leona and the girls who’ve had the least amount of my affection...’
He then planned to hold a grand wedding for the clan after he married them all privately, likely coming after they defeated Alucard.
’Will my children be big enough to remember it?’
A slightly older Elizabeth, Dhalia and Viktoria carried the rings in his imagination.
’No, what if each of our children held the ring for each spouse? I would probably need a special ring, or some kind of symbolism for all of them... twelve rings is a bit much.’
More and more people attended the event as he watched from a wall, swilling his fourth glass of wine. During that time, he’d planned half the wedding and events, but still struggled to decide on how to show his devotion to them.
A ring, a necklace, maybe a tattoo?
Suddenly, the sombre atmosphere and conversations took their toll.
’Somehow... it feels like she’s really gone.’
While locked in his melancholy mood, a familiar face stepped through the doors, wearing a black, halter-neck dress with crimson heels and a small clutch under her arm. The dress hung just enough to create an alluring emphasis on her plump breasts and deep cleavage, but retained modesty.
Her silvery white hair was folded over in a small clip, dangling to the side of her small, oval face as she appeared lost, glancing around with her grey eyes.
Nikolai grabbed a second glass of blue wine, curling his lips as he approached her.
"Are you lost, beautiful wolf?"
She suddenly snapped back with a harsh tone. "Sorry, I have a husband, and he’s hung like a horse!"
"Really, that just so happens to be something we have in common." Nikolai’s smile broadened as he stepped in front of the woman’s sight.
"Ah?!"
Her mouth opened wide as she jumped into his arms, "Fool... I thought you were someone else, it was so scary!" Lunaria faked being scared. But when he smirked, she took his hand and slipped it between her cleavage, and he stopped thinking. "See? Look how fast my little heart is racing!"
’DAMN!’
Although he spent half a day with Sarah to the point of exhaustion, a wife’s scent could awaken the lust of a Werewolf with the slightest temptation.
"Not here, it’s an event for Zara..."
"Mhm, I know."
Lunaria quickly pulled away, skillfully swiping a glass of wine before taking a sip.
"Ooh, this is great." Her throat suddenly gulped it down in seconds, causing Nikolai’s forehead to twitch.
"Listen, you, this wine is..."
She ignored him and took his glass, quickly drinking it with relish. "Ah~ another glass, thank you, babe!"
’Whatever, seeing her enjoy herself is enough.’
The sweet fragrance of berries, caramel and cedarwood lingered on Lunaria’s breath as she leaned against his shoulder with a seductive grin. Unlike her mouth, which said she understood, her hands constantly slipped into his clothes, pulled, poked and caressed his muscles as she burped.
"Oh my~ I think I’m a little drunk."
That’s when Marduke’s familiar voice rang through the halls.
"WHAT IS THIS?! At my Niece’s banquet, her filthy Fiancé is with another woman?!"
