Chapter 651: Not a Foolish Enemy
Chapter 651: Not a Foolish Enemy
The plans went into action immediately, with Verna’s idea of switching many of the royal guards in the Palace with low-level Shadow Guards. To have the royal guards help guide civilians to safe zones and scan for enemy agents mixed with them, with the seasoned Shadow Guards supporting them.
Nikolai joined a small military convoy, sitting inside a carriage with heavy curtains blocking the outside view.
He leaned back, throwing his head against the cold steel support beam.
Five women sat opposite him, their faces hidden behind black cloth and figures tightly wrapped with sensual latex bodysuits. These women were the maids sent from Volkov to support him during his stay.
Nikolai didn’t expect Leona to send extra support, but wouldn’t reject it.
"Your name was Brunhilde?"
The leading maid led a squad of maids from various units; her eyes shone brightly with enthusiasm as she fixedly stared his way.
"Y-Yesh Sir!"
’Did she bite her tongue?’
Her exposed cheeks turned red after she mistakenly caught her tongue while trembling ever so slightly.
"Don’t worry, everyone has moments of extreme nerves."
There was no need to stress the five women out, so he pulled down his mask and smiled at her, trying to smooth the situation. "As long as you follow the plan, everything will work out just fine."
However, his action carried the opposite effect for some reason, and she froze stiff.
"Brunhilde?"
Each time he called her name, her shoulders quivered, but her state remained bizarre.
He tried to help several times before one of the other maids finally spoke up with a helpless tone. "Master, please stop... at this rate, she’ll ascend to heaven."
"Is she alright?" He wanted to be sure.
"Of course, Master, I am sure she’s never been happier."
"Foolish..." Yun’fa folded her arms and snorted, her eyes fixed on Nikolai, who sat beside her.
"Haha, tough crowd."
With Zara gone, this half-Djinn became more aggressive, like Zara’s little guard dog keeping an eye on him.
"Girls, remember this isn’t our world right now. So don’t pull your firearms unless you absolutely have to do so to survive. Otherwise, it might trigger a greater issue."
"Yes, Sir!"
"Phew."
Nikolai closed his eyes after a sigh, curious how the other groups would fare; his job was to remain inside the military district until the signal.
’At least until that moment, our job will be the most relaxed.’
As the carriage slowed down, his thoughts shifted to Sarah and Lunaria, both of whom joined the groups helping Verda.
’Please be alright.’
He poured his earnest desires into a prayer for their safety.
.
.
.
BANG!
A fist the size of Lunaria’s head slammed into the wall just beside her face.
The blow created a deep crater, sending small flecks of stone flying through the air. Taking advantage of his momentary pause, she wrapped her arms around his, holding him in place, then shouted.
"Sarah now!"
From the ceiling, the delicate body wrapped in latex dropped silently, plunging two blades deep into the Balthazarian Djinn’s throat.
"Urgh... Arg—Ngh!"
The massive djinn gripped his throat, struggling to breathe and dropped to his knees.
"How many does that make it now?!" Lunaria wiped the dust from her body with a huff.
Ever since they departed from the palace, the skilled shadow guard began sweeping the known danger zones in groups. Lunaria and Sarah brought the thralls to assist them, only to face an ambush on their first target.
"Tanya, take out the guns, fuck fighting like idiots."
"B-But Master said..."
The veins in Lunaria’s forehead throbbed as she snapped to the pretty, white-haired hybrid thrall. "Oi, who am I?"
"T-the master’s wife."
Lunaria knew she was acting like a bitch, but the enemies outnumbered them by dozens, and although Nikolai said not to use firearms, the enemy was using them! So, of course, she wouldn’t sit here letting herself get shot at.
’But how the hell did they get their hands on enhanced silver bullets?’
Two thralls lay coughing up their own blood after being shot in the thigh, their entire bodies crumpled with black veins pulsing.
Lunaria didn’t think it was by luck that these two survived. Most likely, being hybrid thralls was the only reason they pulled through to survive the enhanced anti-monster bullets utilised by the Balthazar clan.
"Then take my orders as if they were his. Nikolai would never accept you girls being wounded, hurt or killed for one of his rules."
’At least that’s the man I know.’
Tanya’s eyes widened as she quickly nodded. "Yes, Ma’am!" Then rushed through the damaged building and leapt across a wall of sandbags. "Girls, arm yourselves, it’s time to eliminate the threats!"
The group of thralls immediately nodded, touching their chests as a shimmer of light spread from the small tattoo etched above their hearts.
Large assault rifles, shotguns and submachine guns appeared out of thin air as the girls pulled something from their chests.
Zara and Sasha created this tattoo together with the help of the entire Fenrir technological wing. They integrated the storage capacity of item rings found inside the tower, converting them into small markings placed on the skin. Limited only by their size, these marks could store emergency supplies and weapons.
"Ready!"
"In position!"
After Nikolai gave Sarah free rein, she began holding weekly training sessions with a local group of veterans that trained people how to maintain and safely use guns. Once they moved into the Volkov mansion, she hired the veterans as full-time training instructors for the Thralls and trainee servants.
Lunaria held a classic revolver, rolling it around her fingertip before smoothly holstering it under her left arm, and grabbed a standard semi-automatic rifle.
"Prepare for their next push, return fire and vanquish them."
"Yes, Ma’am!"
’We’re almost fifteen minutes behind on time. I hope everything is going well for darling.’
.
.
.
Nikolai’s group entered the military district without major issues, but once they left the transport, everything seemed cursed.
’The Military has switched sides...’
He didn’t understand why he felt this at first, but once their group reached the supposed contact point, they only found a small building surrounded by huge, towering buildings on all sides.
"Master..."
Brunhilde finally spoke again, her voice reluctant to continue.
He leaned close, causing the werewolf’s chest to audibly beat faster.
"I know, Brunhilde. Have everyone ready to draw their weapons, and trust nobody but our own people from this point onward."
Despite his reservations, Nikolai couldn’t afford to stop. He needed to secure this district to help Verna complete her plan. If he faltered her over something like this, there wasn’t any point in coming here in the first place.
’Calm yourself, you knew it was dangerous.’
The soldiers pretended to support them, the dark purple and black hue wrapping their bodies telling Nikolai all he needed.
’These men want us dead.’
Uniformly guided them into the building, which lacked any sort of logistical fixtures; the windows were both wide and lacked any sort of enhancement.
Once they stepped inside, Nikolai noticed the assistant stood behind the coffee counter, nodding to the soldier beside him. Then vanished through the door behind them while removing their apron.
"Follow us."
The soldiers didn’t speak ever since the group entered the truck, giving only light orders and foul glances to the women who joined them.
Nikolai stepped ahead of his maids, despite their duty being to protect him; he refused to let himself put others in danger for his sake.
Especially pretty young women.
"This is the room, wait inside and the captain will soon come to discuss the plan."
Both djinn warriors then left the room as if running away.
The first thing Nikolai did was analyse the square room, with almost half of it revealed by massive floor-to-ceiling windows. He leaned close to the closed blinds before peeking from the corner, activating his Obsidian Eyes.
In the distance, at least five hundred metres away, atop a large building, two men chatted happily while setting up a large fifty-calibre rifle.
Though he lacked intensive knowledge, the gun appeared to be a familial type from the games he played as a teen.
The Barrett.
"Shit, at this range that thing would never miss..."
Without thinking, he pulled back from the window, glanced at the possible items in the room usable for reinforcement and quickly clicked his tongue.
"Brunhilde, Zun’fa. We need to get the fuck out of here NOW!"
In his werewolf form, he might be able to take a shot to his arm or leg and regenerate, but that damn rifle could burst his three hearts with a single shot.
"If they’re using enhanced silver bullets, even I stand no chance against that rifle."
"What do you plan to do? They’re watching the entrance from all sides, do we really have anything to—eh?!"
With a glimmer of silver light, Nikolai took several guns from his item ring, different from the tattoo of his thralls. His ring stored seven thousand square metres of goods.
Nikolai held two standard assault rifles and handed them to Zun’Fa.
He knew shadow guards practised with hot weapons despite their warrior and honour culture frowning upon it.
So he cocked his head with a sly smirk. "Okay, since you have four arms, can you shoot four guns? Or at least two?"
"Y-You?! What the hell were you planning when you came here?"
He didn’t respond at first; instead, his body convulsed, and the next moment two identical Nikolais appeared, with the opposite coloured hair and eyes.
One with red eyes and black hair.
The other with blue eyes and white hair.
"What?!"
"Ah... two of my wives use clone techniques, so I tried putting only my vampire blood in one, and werewolf in the other."
He examined the two clones, which remained motionless.
Without his orders, they wouldn’t move or act. Neither of them had reproductive organs or even the method to do so; it was quite literally an ability purely for war.
Unlike Kumiko’s clones, which could serve him at night.
"Huh, it seems that even when I only have werewolf blood, my eyes aren’t silver, but blue..."
However, there wasn’t any more time to test them.
He first addressed the vampire Nikolai.
"Okay, Nikolai one, take this rifle, your job is one. Kill all long-range snipers, no matter how many times you die once the battle starts, shoot to kill."
Then turned to the silver-haired Nikolai.
"Alright, I want you to run a distraction for us, take these two machine guns, and once we move from this room, rush outside and mow down as many people as possible, if you’re about to die. Detonate this."
He held up a massive belt of explosives, one of the things he had confiscated over six months ago when raiding a building with Nikita.
After that, he turned to the maids, each of them stood with their scoped and silenced assault rifles, along with replacement magazines attached to their thighs using specialised garterbelts with four mag slots.
With their weapons and equipment sorted, he smiled.
"Alright, shall we go over the plan?"
