Chapter 747: “Sure You Don’t Want to Consider Developing Toward Criminal Investigation?”
Chapter 747: “Sure You Don’t Want to Consider Developing Toward Criminal Investigation?”
It wasn’t just Xiao He who was shocked—even the other Qian Family members who had come to pick him up were stunned speechless. Qian Wenhao’s mother’s tears came crashing down in an instant as she held her son, unable to utter a single word for a long time.
Qian Wenhao’s father wore a stern expression, demanding harshly whether Qian Wenhao had suffered a lot inside, whether the police had treated him poorly. But Qian Wenhao said nothing, just kept shaking his head, tugging his parents’ hands as he tried to leave quickly, looking deeply embarrassed to talk in public.
Qian Wenhao’s father was naturally furious. After all, he had already greased the wheels, and Qian Wenhao had only been cooperating with the investigation from start to finish—he wasn’t a criminal. This situation was simply too abnormal. So he turned back angrily, ready to storm off: “Let me go ask Officer Mi what era this is, that they’d still mistreat innocent civilians cooperating with an investigation—”
But his urgent words were cut short by Elder Qian from behind: “Enough. Take him home first. Don’t make a scene here.”
Qian Wenhao’s mother nodded along, unwilling to stay out here any longer, not wanting to make Qian Wenhao even more uncomfortable.
At that moment, Qian Wenhao finally spoke up, defending the police: “It’s not their fault. Officer Mi has been very considerate of me. It’s my problem.”
He simply couldn’t eat or sleep.
It had nothing to do with the police.
Seeing this, the Qian Family didn’t press further. They quickly went through the motions, first having Qian Wenhao step over a brazier to ward off bad luck, then hurriedly prepared to leave with him.
Xiao He lingered on the outer edge of the group. He didn’t know the other Qian Family members and felt too embarrassed to push his way in to greet Elder Qian, so he just hung around at a moderate distance, wondering whether he should follow them home for a meal.Under these circumstances, it didn’t seem appropriate, did it?
Just as Xiao He was lost in thought, a steady female voice came from behind him: “Are you Xiao He?”
Xiao He turned around and found a middle-aged female police officer standing on the steps behind him, walking toward him.
This was the same officer he had seen at the restoration center earlier.
They had only brushed past each other then, never exchanging a single word, not even making eye contact. Xiao He never expected her to suddenly come over and speak to him.
“That’s me.” Xiao He nodded politely. “Hello, Officer! Is there something you need from me?”
Officer Chen gave Xiao He a scrutinizing once-over, then shifted her gaze to the Qian Family members loading up into their cars one after another. She asked, “You don’t seem very familiar with the Qian Family. So, you’re Qian Wenhao’s friend?”
The relationship between Qian Wenhao and Xiao He seemed more like peers who just happened to know each other.
Xiao He gave an awkward laugh: “Ha ha, actually, I’m not that close with Qian Wenhao either. I’m quite familiar with Elder Qian. I was lucky enough to lend a small hand this time, so when I heard Qian Wenhao had been released smoothly, I came along to see how things were going.”
“Lend a small hand?”
“It was about that incident at the restoration center. We had a brief encounter then.” Xiao He explained. “I provided some sample material of Emperor Chen’s authentic script.”
“I know.” Officer Chen gave a slight nod. “Professor Ye was full of praise for you after you left. Engineer Wang was also very interested in your company’s AI system. And with your help, our investigation achieved a critical breakthrough.”
Xiao He just smiled. “Just doing what little I could.”
“Then you’ve done a huge favor.”
Officer Chen said it with meaningful weight.
Xiao He didn’t respond. He just stood there calmly, facing the female officer, as if completely unaware of the subtext, accepting the praise without fuss.
Officer Chen narrowed her eyes, staring fixedly at the young man before her. She paused for a long moment, then—out of nowhere—abruptly changed the subject: “But I wonder, does your AI system have any plans for further research in the future?”
She asked with obvious interest: “Although our police investigation systems already have fairly advanced AI functions, after hearing Professor Ye’s description of your… Little Black AI system, I got curious. What’s its future development direction? Have you considered expanding into the criminal investigation field?”
In reality, there were already well-developed AI facial recognition systems and identification systems for handwriting, fingerprints, and such. Even the AI-assisted authentication machine at the restoration center was derived from their police AI identification system.
But between different AIs, there were vast differences.
Their current technology mostly remained stuck on “recognition” and “identification.” But according to Professor Ye’s description, the AI system Xiao He had used temporarily was capable of deeper, more human-like thought and judgment. It was closer to the thinking patterns of human authentication experts, and could even further analyze the logic behind changes under different circumstances.
This was why Xiao He’s system had been able to pinpoint the key issues faster and analyze why the artwork at the art center was likely a forgery.
After hearing this, Officer Chen had firmly committed Heguang Technology and the name Xiao He to memory.
Xiao He nodded: “Our company will indeed try to develop in those directions going forward. If we produce results in the future, we’d also be willing to cooperate with the police to help solve more cases.”
But what he never expected was that this Golden Finger, originally developed for crime, had somehow ended up being used exclusively to catch his “own people.”
Ever since the drone intelligent search-and-rescue incident on the snowy mountain was exposed, Heguang Technology had partnered with several major drone manufacturers. They had officially deployed their systems into related search-and-rescue missions and achieved impressive results.
However, the unreleased special version of the drones had been entirely purchased by Rong City’s military district and were gradually being distributed outward.
After all, the southwestern region had many mountainous areas and extreme climate zones. The specially upgraded drones perfectly suited the local conditions.
And while Heguang Technology didn’t directly participate in manufacturing, just collecting licensing fees and technology royalties had already netted them a hefty profit—a very stable long-term business.
As for where those drones ultimately ended up being used… well, that wasn’t their concern anymore.
Now here Xiao He was, having just run into Professor Ye, who wanted his company to further develop AI for antique and cultural relic authentication, and now another officer, Officer Chen, who wanted them to stride boldly into the criminal investigation field.
Xiao He felt equal parts amused and exasperated.
Officer Chen didn’t seem inclined to continue their conversation. She simply pulled out a police business card and handed it to Xiao He: “I forgot to introduce myself. My surname is Chen. I’m one of the leads on the Emperor Chen authentic script burning case. If you find any clues, you can contact me.”
“It looks like the Qian Family’s car is waiting for you? I won’t keep you.”
Then she turned around and headed back toward the police station.
Xiao He pinched the card between his fingers, watching her retreating figure, lost in thought.
“Teacher Xiao!”
The car specially waiting for him belonged to one of Elder Qian’s students. Although Elder Qian had been busy with Qian Wenhao’s affairs earlier, he hadn’t forgotten to instruct his student to pick up Xiao He. After all, Xiao He had really done them a huge favor this time by providing key materials, and the Qian Family genuinely wanted to invite him over as a guest.
So even after everyone else had left, Elder Qian’s student still waited by the roadside, waving cheerfully at Xiao He.
Xiao He had no choice but to pocket the card and walk over.
