Chapter 2892: The Cervos Family
Chapter 2892: The Cervos Family
Date: Unspecified
Time: Unspecified
Location: Myriad Realms, Card World, Western Region, Berg District, Scarlet Berg, Guild Association Mall
"Card Lord?" the demigod bodyguard muttered under his breath after noticing that the mysterious figure standing among the SSS-rank corpse dragons was merely a Card Lord.
When he took a closer look, he realized his initial judgment had been wrong. Those were not corpse dragons, but SSS-rank corpse puppets. Seeing a mere Card Lord controlling two SSS-rank corpse puppets, only one name came to the demigod’s mind: the Cervos family from the Southern Region.
"Cervos family brat, what is the meaning of this?" the demigod demanded after using his intent sense to confirm that his young master was out of harm’s way.
"Shut up, and tell the others to stop hiding. I need to earn a lot of merits, so hopefully there are enough of you," Young Master Cervos called out arrogantly as he looked toward the clouds above. Hidden within them were the demigod bodyguards of the various young masters and mistresses inside the mall.
Unlike JJ and Adriene, he chose to side with the former Southern Hope instead of the Southern Royal family. Not because he wanted control of the streets of the Southern Capital, but because his family had decided to bet on the Rising Star, even while others believed it was only burning brightly before its inevitable death.
To show their support for Southern Hope and its cause, the Cervos family had even been willing to relocate from the Southern Capital to Sky Blossom City. However, the city was tightly controlled by Southern Hope’s forces, and they were bluntly informed that there was no room for them, not just in Sky Blossom City, but in the entire Blossom District itself.
The Cervos family could only swallow that treatment because they understood why the others were wary of them. Their family’s reputation preceded them wherever they went.
However, Southern Hope eventually gave them a way out. If the Cervos family could collectively and justly earn enough merits, he would personally grant them a place to settle anywhere within his dominion deserving their merits.
As a result, the Cervos family not only handed over all their copyrights related to artificial energy cores and monster corpse puppetry to Southern Hope’s forces in exchange for merits, but also willingly headed to the frontlines to earn as many merits as possible as quickly as they could.
Hence, Young Master Cervos had come here to help the Bright Lions. Originally, he had wanted to join the organization and even compete for a leadership position with his own strength and accomplishments, but he was rejected because of how he had handled things with his high school gang back in the Southern Capital.
He had disbanded the gang through a group text before moving overnight to Sky Blossom City with his family. Since then, they had been staying at the Fine Gold Hotel after selling off all their properties in the Southern Capital and the rest of the unconquered part of the Southern Region.
Young master Crevos had essentially abandoned his old gangmates, leaving them vulnerable to JJ’s and Adriene’s gangs. There had already been plenty of bad blood between the groups, especially toward Cervos’ gang, whose members were notoriously arrogant.
However, after hearing what Cervos had done to them, JJ and Adriene took some pity on the abandoned members and allowed those with fewer grudges against them to join their gangs. As for the rest, mostly Cervos’ close confidants, they were left utterly miserable once the two gangs were finished with them.
With a reputation like that, Young Master Cervos had been utterly foolish to think he would not only be allowed to join the Bright Lions, but even replace Aurelia as their leader through sheer prowess. However, that rejection did not bother him nearly as much as something else.
The Cervos family had originally planned to use their immense wealth to buy up property across the upstart new empire while prices were still low, taking advantage of what they saw as a once-in-a-millennium opportunity. But while they remained stuck grinding for merits, the new empire’s real estate market and businesses had not only stabilized, but entered an explosive upward trend.
In other words, the number of merits they needed to turn their plans into reality kept increasing with each passing day, like a finish line steadily moving farther away.
The only good thing to come out of this move for him was that his grandfather had entrusted him with one of the family heirlooms: an artificial energy core developed by the Cervos family using an unranked monster core. With it, he could control multiple SSS-rank corpse puppets at once. Because of that, he wasn’t afraid to challenge several demigods simultaneously.
More importantly, he had to earn enough merits to prove he was worthy of wielding the family heirloom. After all, world leader-class families like theirs never lacked talented descendants.
"Hahaha!" The demigod bodyguard laughed out loud after hearing Young Master Cervos’ smug declaration, while the other demigods hiding in the clouds did not even bother revealing themselves.
Seeing this, Cervos activated his Deadman’s Coffin card and entered it, after which one of the puppet dragons swallowed the coffin whole into its stomach.
Soon, both the dragons began brimming with soul energy as their eyes radiated with immense power. They let out thunderous roars before firing concentrated beams of soul energy, one aimed at the demigod bodyguard before them, while the other blasted toward the surrounding clouds in an attempt to force the hidden demigods out into the open.
Caught off guard, the demigod bodyguard was blasted away as he sacrificed his arms to shield the rest of his body from the attack.
Meanwhile, the other beam tore through the surrounding clouds, dispersing them entirely and revealing a total of seven demigods, each looking more furious than the last.
The dragons then flapped their wings and shot into the sky in a single swift motion, as if they intended to hunt the demigods down one by one.
