Chapter 1411: Hero
Chapter 1411: Hero
George subconsciously noticed Rodney’s state but couldn’t focus on or mind it now. He only knew a miracle had happened. Rodney had delayed his certain death by a fraction of a second, which was enough to change that terrible fate.
The bald alien’s scaled, metallic skin had achieved something similar, halting George’s momentum for an instant to create an opportunity for an unavoidable counterattack.
Now that the tables had turned, George instantly used his brief, additional time to adjust his sharpness to that sudden defensive technique. His silver blade finally pierced the evolved warrior’s temple, going far further than that.
The silver blade split the alien’s bald head diagonally, cutting through his neck and continuing to cleave through the right side of his chest, eventually coming out of his side.
The gesture was swift, unhindered, and deadly. It also cut more than matter. George’s sharpness reached as far as the evolved warrior’s existence and True Chaos, cleaving him on several levels.
The whistling noise ended once George completed his slash, and silence ensued. The bald alien, Rodney, the long-haired alien in the distance, George himself, and the very world seemed to hold their breath, waiting for the inevitable flow of time to confirm that the impossible had happened.
Slowly but surely, time kept flowing, albeit only for the bald alien. A blacker, diagonal line appeared on the evolved warrior’s head, neck, and torso, releasing trails of dark blood that started flowing down his body.
Strangely enough, the glowing black smoke on the alien’s figure stopped flickering. Meanwhile, a chunk of his upper body started to slide sideways, dragging more than half of his head, half of his neck, and a fraction of his chest with it, including his right shoulder and the muscular arm attached to it.
A thudding noise followed. The gory body part crashed onto the melted street while that muscular, maimed body remained straight, standing still. Even the torn black cape behind the alien was motionless, but that quiet was short-lived.
The smoke on the back of the alien’s figure suddenly regained life, its fabric trembling before the entirety of that energy blew outward.
Rodney vaguely saw that event but was in no condition to dodge it. It was a miracle he was still aware and awake at all.
Meanwhile, the many superficial cuts on George’s body didn’t hinder his movement at all, but the gales of True Chaos remained faster. He could try to cut through them, but his arms didn’t move.
That lack of reaction immediately showed its reasons. George’s subconscious didn’t trigger warning signals because there was nothing to fear. That explosion of True Chaos was nothing more than a harmless cluster of dispersing dense gales.
The True Chaos blew outward, covering the area and flickering for a few seconds before losing its structural integrity. That fearsome, troublesome energy dispersed into the world, leaving no trace of its insidious properties.
George and Rodney quickly inspected their surroundings, only for the maimed body to lose its balance and tilt backward, reattracting their attention. That severed corpse crashed on the metal surface, joining detached upper parts, ultimately confirming the two human warriors’ achievement.
Two fifth-level warriors had defeated an evolved being wielding an energy that countered the mana. The event was inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but George and Rodney could very well consider it the apex of their military careers.
Yet, Rodney couldn’t be too ecstatic. The other Scarlet Eyes’ warrior was still there, as well as his King. That small victory didn’t change Aynor’s predicament, and he was too exhausted to be of any use anymore.
The mental exhaustion and injuries got the better of Rodney at that point. His vision darkened as his maimed hand released the black blade he had stopped, making it fall to the ground, which he planned to follow.
Still, Rodney never fell. As his figure was about to hit the metal street, something grabbed his left, intact shoulder, slowly lowering him down until he could comfortably kneel on the ground.
Rodney lifted his closing eyes, looking at the stern, strangely pensive face above him through his changing vision. The blue and green shades were receding, as well as his thermal vision, adding annoying details to that expression.
George looked down at Rodney while still holding his shoulder. He saw his brown irises flattening, gradually going back to being human eyes. Even the wrinkle-like blood vessels on Rodney were fading, but his injured state quickly claimed his attention.
Despite the bleeding leg, shoulder, and abdomen and the mangled hand, Rodney had still come to George’s aid, effectively saving his life and giving him hope to return to the family he already longed so much for.
Rodney’s annoyance intensified as he noticed George’s expression growing softer and more concerned. He knew the alien-lover’s biggest fan was getting the wrong idea, which it was better to correct before his force turned him into some hero.
Nevertheless, when Rodney tried to speak, only coughs came out, splashing all the blood falling from his nostrils forward. George almost felt the urge to crouch down and help him, but his stance remained straight. It had to since the battle wasn’t over.
George glanced to his right while Rodney was busy stabilizing himself on the street, doing his best not to faint due to the fit that had captured his lungs.
The long-haired alien didn’t use that opportunity to launch an attack at the two men. Some shock actually tainted his expressionless face.
George wouldn’t bet on the fact that he could use that faint shock to his advantage. He didn’t know how long it would take for reinforcements to arrive. Still, he clearly was the only able-bodied warrior left on the human side, so that long-haired alien was his to fight.
George steadied his grip on the silver blade, taking a deep breath to fill his sharpness with all the power he had left. He could still fight. He could still come out alive from that situation, but his reptilian vision suddenly showed something odd.
The event had been too fast, only manifesting itself as a sense that something was off. George even frowned in confusion until he realized that there was another heat signature next to the evolved warrior, shining so brightly he almost failed to spot the two horns on its forehead.
