Chapter 1035: Transfer [GT Ranking Bonus Chapter]

"I was supposed to die, Young Master," Lyra continued as she relaxed her fingers, "but it said it always read the memories of the ones who stepped through its portal in order to keep up with the world and also measure the being that was going to inherit its power, to see if they were worthy or not," she explained. "I was found unworthy, that I was untalented, but it didn’t kill me because of my memories of you and the other Wargraves."

Asher arched an eyebrow as he asked, "What does that mean?"

She stayed silent for a moment, then replied, "It said the Founder of the Wargrave family, the very first Primarch, was its Master’s friend, and they all participated in the First True War of the Erased Era together."

Asher was shocked to the very core. Although he had never heard about the First Wargrave or Primarch, hearing that they had even participated in a war like the First True War meant that the Erased Era wasn’t as simple as he thought.

After all, for a man or woman like the First Primarch to birth a Bloodline like the Wargraves, one had to know how extraordinary of a being such a person truly was. Yet, such a person joined hands with other people to face someone else... or rather, something else.

’It seems I’m stumbling upon some hidden secrets here,’ he thought to himself.

From what Lyra had said, he could deduce that the ancient Monster hiding within the Cursed Lands was a Tamed Beast. To even possess the ability to tame a beast of such calibre, especially one with the ability to devour, was truly... mind-blowing.

’Just how overpowered were the people of the past?’ he couldn’t help but muse to himself.

"So, this ancient Monster passed on its ability to you because you were a maid who served a Wargrave?" he asked, his thoughts focusing back on Lyra.

"Yes and no," Lyra answered. "I confronted the Plague Emovira after I finished watching your last battle against Arianna Haellight, meaning the Monster also knows about all your performances during the Inter-Empire Tournament," she explained. "So, yes, because I’m serving you, who has climbed to this level of power in two years, and no, because I’m not the servant of just any Wargrave," her tone calm as light smile appeared on her face the moment she talked about Asher’s achievements.

Asher lowered himself into a seated position on his bed as he fell into his thoughts. It was understandable that the Monster would want to pass on its ability to a Wargrave, or someone serving a Wargrave, since it was familiar with the First Primarch and had also followed the Wargraves’ history through the memories of those it had devoured.

His eyes turned back to Lyra as he asked, "But if it passed its Devouring ability to you, how did your Life Rank skyrocket?" He needed that piece of the puzzle.

"The ability to devour allowed the End-class Monster to randomly gain anything from the things it devoured, with the ability to also expel or reject what it gained," Lyra began to explain.

"And according to it, it gained an ability called Transfer, that literally allows it to transfer anything in the literal sense. It insulted the original owner of this ability, saying the Human who possessed it only used it to transfer himself from one point in space to another, which is basically teleportation," she paused for a moment, then added, "but it used the Transfer ability to transfer its Life Rank and Devouring ability to me."

’Transfer...’ he thought to himself as he wondered how broken such an ability truly was. Without limits, one could do very dangerous things.

’If the original owner of the ability only used it to teleport, then they deserved to be insulted,’ he thought to himself.

"Why didn’t you break through to the Crownstar Life Rank since the Monster was at the End-class?" he asked, as Lyra was only at the Radiant Soulstar Life Rank.

Lyra sighed as she repeated what the Monster had told her, "It said the world isn’t so easily cheated, although I don’t know what that means."

At her words, Asher’s eyes narrowed as he couldn’t help but remember what Malrik had told him about having to sacrifice something. He wondered if it was related, although the sacrifice Malrik had been talking about might be connected to the rank above the Crownstar Life Rank.

He sighed. He didn’t know anything for sure, but one thing he knew was that the lore of this world ran too deep.

The Convergence. The Sinvairas. The First True War. The Erased Era. And now, a Monster that had survived for nineteen thousand years; only the Sinvairas had lived that long.

"And what about the Monster?" he asked. He wanted to know if it was still alive.

Lyra shook her head. "The moment it passed on its Life Rank, it died, its body disintegrating into motes of light, although I also don’t understand how that is possible," she explained.

Asher nodded, as he had already foreseen this outcome. It would have been weird if the Monster was still alive.

"Who else have you told any of this?" he asked after a moment.

"Nobody," Lyra replied instantly.

"What of the Knight who was following you?" he asked, as he hadn’t forgotten about that guy.

Lyra shook her head as she answered, "I told him that there was only a cure for the Plague I was suffering from within, and that was why he couldn’t enter, and why when I came out, I was already perfectly fine and wasn’t affected by the Plague, while I was basically healed due to the ascension in my Life Rank and strength," she explained.

Asher nodded his head in satisfaction. Another question flickered into his mind, and he didn’t hesitate to ask.

"Did it tell you anything about the First True War or the Erased Era? Or, like, did you gain its memories and the abilities and powers it had devoured till now?" he asked all at once.

Lyra shook her head. "The answer to all of them is no, Young Master. It refused to say anything about the First True War or the Erased Era. And as for the abilities, it said it could transfer them, but that that would only make me lazy, so it didn’t" she answered.

Asher nodded again, his brain and imagination going wild as he sat in silence.

’If there was a First True War, was there a Second True War?’ he thought to himself. ’And if the Monster said that it was in hiding, does that mean they lost the First True War, hence leading to a Second True War?’ he contemplated.

’How many wars that happened in the past weren’t counted as the True Wars?’ His eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

’I need to visit the Cursed Lands,’ he concluded to himself.

He had found the Star Core Fragment without even going there, but simply by going to an auction. Lyra, his maid, had gone on a mission concerning a disease and returned stronger, along with some ancient secrets.

Both events connected to the Cursed Lands.

It felt as though there was a hand pulling the strings, as though something was manipulating everything. He could do nothing for now but hope that wasn’t true.

’This is why I hate reincarnation, transmigration, and all that crap,’ he thought to himself, as he had never wished such a fate upon himself from the day he became a fiction lover.

’Reincarnators and Transmigrators hardly ever find it easy to just enjoy their second life,’ he thought in exasperation.
