Chapter 1252: Blame Your Emperor [Super Gift Bonus Chapter]
Azazel stood in silence for a moment before speaking with a heavy sigh.
"So it has finally ended in my loss..."
His tone was heavy, his chest heavy, and the moment itself heavy.
Nobody liked taking a loss, even if it was against their own best friend. And losing after looking forward to a battle made the matter even more depressing. Although he had enjoyed the battle to the fullest extent, his loss seemed to nullify it all.
"It was bound to happen, Azazel."
Azaron’s voice came from the side, a satisfied smile appearing on his lips as he raised his hand and stared at it. He was satisfied with the new skill he had created, and now had finally been the perfect time to test it.
At Azaron’s words, Azazel’s lips twitched. He felt like walking up to this guy and punching him in the gut.
"And why is that?" he asked.
Azaron turned his gaze away from his hands as he spoke in a confident tone.
"Because I’m a Wargrave."
Azazel shook his head as he simply gave up. He didn’t know what sort of answer he had been expecting from this idiotic friend of his.
For the past couple of hours, they had been aiming for each other’s lives. Attacking vital points, moving to kill the other, and now they were talking as though nothing had happened, as if they hadn’t done anything at all. Like it were all perfectly normal.
A frown immediately appeared on Azazel’s face as he remembered what his loss meant.
The deaths of billions of citizens of the Velkarin Empire.
"Azaron. I’ve never asked you for a favour since we became friends, but I will be asking for one at this moment."
He spoke, his eyes shifting towards his best friend.
Azaron, who could already guess what the man was going to say, simply sighed as he replied.
"Let’s hear it."
Azazel held his gaze as he began to speak in a calm and convincing tone.
"Please spare the people of the Velkarin Empire. They had nothing to do with this or the ongoing war. They simply live their lives and return to their homes after work. Wiping them out for the errors of an Emperor whom you’ve already killed is highly excessive."
He stated, his tone lower than usual.
"Grant me this one and only favour, my friend."
He stated with finality.
Azaron closed his eyes for a moment. To say he wasn’t moved would be a lie. After all, Azazel had never asked anything of him, and the man was the perfect friend anyone could wish for.
"Azazel, if this were just a personal matter, I would have agreed, as you are the only friend I have in this world."
Azaron began to speak as he opened his eyes.
"But alas, this is a matter of the Wargrave family and not of me as Azaron. It is impossible for me to overlook this at the moment. I don’t expect you to understand, as you aren’t a Noble and have never cared to be one, nor do you have millions of subordinates under you who risk their lives every single day on your orders because they believe in you as their Commander."
He continued as he shook his head, his golden eyes meeting Azazel’s black ones.
"Tell me, Azazel. What answer am I supposed to give the few who survived? What am I supposed to tell them? What about their families? Am I supposed to tell them that their friends and loved ones were killed and that I did nothing about it? I don’t ask you to put yourself in my shoes, but I ask you to understand my position."
He sighed as he began to float into the air ever so slowly.
"This is what I must do as a Leader, a Commander, a Primarch. While I understand your position and reasons, I can only apologise. And I hope what happens next doesn’t end our friendship..."
He stated, then vanished from where he floated, leaving only Azazel behind.
Azazel didn’t know what else to say. He could only stand back and watch. He had tried to stop the man and failed. He could only hope that Azaron made it painless.
And as for them no longer being friends because of what Azaron was about to do, Azazel wasn’t about to end their friendship. The man was within his rights to carry out this... genocide.
Besides, Azaron was only wiping out half of the Empire rather than the entire Empire because he respected him and valued their friendship. That was the greatest concession Azaron had made, and it was enough.
’I wonder how Arianna would react to this.’
He thought to himself, then shook his head. He vanished from where he stood, not heading towards the Empire, as he couldn’t bring himself to watch the massacre of billions of his people.
Azaron appeared above the Velkarin Empire once more. In the sky were various Imperial Knights who had been waiting in case he returned, as the six Dukes had informed the Imperial Palace of what was happening.
"Azaron Wargrave, you’ve killed the Emperor of the Velkarin Empire, and you are required to sur—"
Before the Imperial Family cabinet member could finish speaking, Azaron simply waved his hand, and with that motion, Light erupted outwards from the sun itself, erasing everyone who had gathered to stop him. Their bodies burned into nothingness, leaving not even a single hair follicle behind.
He didn’t have time to waste on useless chatter with weaklings. His golden eyes shifted downwards, and he could see various citizens looking at him in fear from below.
"People of the Velkarin Empire, I am Azaron Wargrave of the Zarethorne Empire. And all I have to say is this: blame your Emperor."
He stated, his voice travelling across the entire Velkarin Empire.
He raised a hand, clenched it, then brought it downwards in a singular motion, punching with the Void surrounding his fist.
And with a booming sound, a literal apocalypse descended upon the entire Velkarin Empire. The Void tore downwards, instantly erasing everything in sight as though it had never existed. Within two minutes, half of the entire Velkarin Empire had been erased from the map, leaving behind a gigantic, gaping sinkhole in the ground.
There were no screams and no time to escape, as these people couldn’t move or react faster than the attack.
One attack was all Azaron needed, and it was done. He had carried this out mercifully because of his friend’s words. Otherwise, he would have used the Angelic Fall Spear Technique from earlier and watched everything burn down.
He gazed downwards as the shockwave reached the remaining half of the Velkarin Empire and watched as countless people tried to stop the shockwave. Shaking his head, he vanished, leaving without another word or anything else to say.
And with that, the Velkarin Empire sank into the dark ages. Billions had been wiped out by a single man, and they had been too weak to do anything about it.
There were no corpses to bury, no limbs to at least return to family members, no blood, nothing. It was simply total annihilation.
They shall cry. They shall weep. They shall curse The One Above All. Children shall grow up with thoughts of revenge and hatred in their hearts, determined to avenge their parents, crush and siblings, but they shall ultimately fail, for The One Above All was exactly what his title declared him to be: a being above all.
