Chapter 556: Hybrid
Chapter 556: Hybrid
Asher couldn’t believe his eyes, nobody needed to spell it out for him to understand what these people were trying to achieve. It was painfully obvious that they were trying to achieve what seemed like a creation, a grotesque and deliberate fusion between human and Emovira, a convergence that defied both nature and reason in ways that unsettled even his hardened composure.
A perfect hybrid, if one could even call it that, a being that stood at the crossroads of two fundamentally incompatible existences, born not from evolution or reality, but from forced manipulation and grotesque experimentation.
That was the organization’s purpose at the moment, the reason why they’ve been kidnapping villagers, merchants, travelers, wanderers, and other unfortunate people on the road, the reason they’ve been harvesting organs and storing them with unnatural precision, as though they were merely selling them in some underground black market.
It was all for this sickening operation and mission, a calculated pursuit of forbidden progress that cared nothing for morality, humanity, or the cost of suffering left behind in its wake.
"Tsk, another failure," one of the mad ’scientists’ spoke with a sigh as he looked at his table that was filled with innards and exploded masses of meat and organs, his tone devoid of remorse, his expression carrying nothing but clinical frustration.
"This is getting harder and harder to achieve," his assistant chimed in from the side with a sigh, as though they’ve been at it for years without progress, as though the countless lives lost were nothing more than discarded attempts in a long and obsessive pursuit.
"Indeed, it is harder," the first mad scientist spoke, "but imagine the gains, even those who can’t awaken would have an opportunity to have power," a grin spread across his face as he continued, his eyes gleaming with unrestrained obsession, "we would have an endless army of perfect breeds between Emovirae and Humans, beings that would transcend natural limitation. Emovirae would stop being such brainless beasts that act purely on instinct, but possess their own independent minds, and coupled with their terrifying abilities and biological superiority... their achievements would be limitless, their existence alone would redefine power itself."
The assistant nodded as though he saw the vision clearly, as though he too was already witnessing the future they were trying to forcibly bring into existence, "after we’ve achieved a perfect fusion between these, we can move to fusion between Humans and intelligent Emovirae that are higher in rank," a smirk appeared on this assistant’s face, his ambition growing more unrestrained.
"Exactly, and even those like us that have hit the pinnacle of our natural talent can continue to progress endlessly as we’ve become the balance between both existences," the first mad scientist added with a grin, his voice filled with anticipation, as though he was already imagining himself ascending beyond his current limitations.
Asher simply stared in silence as he heard the words that left the mouths of these two mad people, their voices carrying a mixture of arrogance and obsession that made his skin crawl. Originally, when Asher had first come into contact with Emovirae, he had had a thought of an operation like this, an operation that, if Emovirae bodies didn’t vanish upon death, humans would inevitably attempt to use them to create an abomination, that it seemed as though the stars themselves understood this inevitable corruption, and that was why Emovirae corpses vanished after death, to prevent such atrocities from ever occurring.
But now, it seemed as though these people had found a way around this rule, a method to bypass what was meant to be impossible, and that realization alone made the situation far more disturbing than he had initially anticipated.
’This is nothing but pure madness and fantasy,’ Asher thought to himself. To him, these people were purely delusional, a fusion between both sides was impossible by conventional understanding... but still, this was a fantasy world where the laws of physics and biology could be bent, rewritten, and reshaped in any way through Astra energy, maybe... just maybe... they could achieve their goal, no matter how unnatural it seemed.
But even if they did, all they would have was a mindless creation that would know nothing but destruction, an existence devoid of reason, purpose, or restraint, a weapon born purely from violation.
But at the same time, a creation like that would be considered phenomenal progress to an organization like this, as all that remained was now the calibration of the mind, the refinement of control, the perfection of obedience. Even if they couldn’t calibrate the mind, they could still mass produce these abominations and use them for various mass slaughters, territorial domination, experimental warfare, and nefarious activities that would destabilize entire regions.
But, all this was if they even succeeded in the first place, a possibility that, while unlikely, could not be dismissed entirely.
Asher’s eyes turned to another side, and there, the back of a man could be seen opened, his flesh spread apart with surgical precision, and an Emovira spine was being transferred with delicate care, various Astra threads formed in the air as the ’scientist’ stitched muscles, veins, arteries, flesh, nerves, and bones together with perfect and inhuman accuracy.
The woman seemed to wait for any negative reaction, like the body rejecting the spine violently, but after a full minute, nothing happened, the woman’s expression spilled into uncontrollable excitement as though she had just won the lottery, her breathing becoming uneven with exhilaration.
At another direction, the brain of a man was being transferred into an Emovira, Astra threads carefully reconnecting neural pathways and biological interfaces, and at another direction, the lungs of an Emovira were being transferred into a woman, Astra energy reinforcing fragile tissues to prevent collapse, different directions and tables filled the room, different parts of the body and organs were being transferred, merged, stitched, and fused in ways that completely disregarded natural biological boundaries.
Asher closed his eyes for a moment, then sighed internally, suppressing the disgust that threatened to surface, he proceeded to scan the room with his Star Sense, and he picked up a whopping twenty four guards hidden in the shadows, their presence concealed with practiced precision, their attention unwavering.
’What sort of ridiculous numbers are these?’ Asher thought to himself, he could already see the pattern, a single guard was assigned to a single ’scientist,’ that was how important the organization deemed these mad surgeons, their survival prioritized above all else.
But it was understandable, if they died, where would they find another brilliant mind and skillful hands capable of performing such delicate and forbidden procedures with such efficiency.
Although Asher would sort of like to make these mad scientists his priority, by killing them, hence crippling the organization severely, he understood that that was just wishful thinking, obviously this wasn’t their only base of operations, with how large, wealthy, and resourceful they were, surely other forms of experiments were going on across the Zarethorn Empire, hidden in the shadows, if not across the entire world of Crymora itself.
Even if this was their only base of operations at the moment, and these mad scientists could be considered exceptionally skilled, how hard could it possibly be for them to kidnap people and train them over time? It would only delay them for a few years, if not merely months, and that wouldn’t solve the root of the issue permanently.
’I guess I can only report this to the Vice Principal, and what they do from there would be none of my concern, my concern is only the mission,’ Asher thought to himself, maintaining his emotional detachment, ’besides, this is the last door, I should think about how to get to the underground bunker of the building without alerting unnecessary attention,’ he thought to himself as he turned around and walked away silently, his presence fading once more into the unseen.
