The gap between Asher and everyone else was anything but normal or sane. It couldn’t even be called a gap anymore at this point; even words like chasm weren’t enough to describe it. The distance between the heavens and the earth? What other scale of measurement existed that could describe it? Even such comparisons felt insufficient when placed beside the absurdity displayed on the rankings.
Asher had no words. Truly, he had none. The rankings were stable as usual, but... it was not the same.
The moment the rankings were updated, the world entered another state of speechlessness. Some of them couldn’t help but pull out their calculators just to understand the difference between Asher and the fraud in Rank 2.
The more they pressed their calculators, the deeper the breaths they took. Then frenzy erupted as they broke their voices screaming his name. Although Asher might not know it yet... he might have created a cult in his name at this point. Countless people, spectators, and viewers felt their blood surge simply from staring at the impossible numbers displayed before them.
Asher stared at Arianna Haellight’s points. Although the gap seemed so enormous, he understood that prior to him entering The Shallow, he had been just about four thousand (4,000) points higher than her. Meaning she was closing the gap between them at an extremely fast pace.
But now, Asher had increased that gap once again. And unless she could find a Special Positive Zone or some outrageous Positive Zone, then it was futile to climb to the first rank.
Asher could only shake his head and look forward to battling her, just so he could find out how strong she truly was. After all, since she climbed to the second rank, she had never dropped once, while the rest switched ranks once in a while.
Asher sighed, then took his eyes off the bracelet. He reasoned that maybe he should try touching the two million point mark, then he would just laze around for the remaining days of the Qualifiers Round. It seemed like a perfect idea.
Asher’s eyes moved ever so slowly as he stopped staring at the rankings. And before him were various students who were staring at him with gazes of astonishment. Although Asher had never said his name to these people, aside from the other six students who had run away, they all automatically knew he was Asher Wargrave.
With a thought, Asher cancelled the numerous Photon Clones he had created earlier to protect the students against Xal’Thar’s escape tactics.
As they stared at him, wondering if he was a human or a monster, Asher also stared back at them with a peculiar thought.
With the number of students, and none of them being from the Zarethorne Empire, eliminating them should be able to amass the sixty thousand (60,000) points needed to cross the two million mark, right?
The moment he had the thought, he was tempted to carry it out. But he stopped himself. He didn’t want to be too greedy and push things too far. Besides, just a few minutes ago he had been protecting them from Xal’Thar. He didn’t want to suddenly eliminate them.
’Sigh... I’m such a good guy,’ Asher smugly thought to himself in a not-so-humble tone that no good guy would have.
With that, Asher simply turned and decided to walk away. If he stared at these students for any longer, he might give in to the temptation.
But the moment Asher turned away from them, two people moved as they closed the distance between themselves and Asher in an instant. One of them stepped out of Asher’s shadow, his dagger screaming towards Asher’s bracelet. The second person was invisible, their steps silent as their fingers reached towards Asher’s left wrist.
The human heart was simply too greedy. Who wouldn’t be jealous of such points? Who wouldn’t be envious? Who wouldn’t want to bask in such glory? Such points were no different from one step to ascend the Heavens.
Of course, both of them knew they couldn’t defeat Asher. They weren’t stupid. Everyone here knew none of them could. Which was why these two people had made a move the precise moment Asher had turned his back on them, and why they had targeted his bracelet and not Asher himself. Their abilities also granted them an advantage in carrying out such an attack instantly. In their minds, this was the only opportunity they would ever get.
Honor? Pride? Please, none of that existed in the real world... only maybe amongst true Knights. All they had to do was destroy Asher’s bracelet, then they would vanish for the remaining two days, hiding in a place where no one could find them.
But unfortunately for them, Asher’s senses were simply too ridiculous. How could one fool the senses of someone who could track a Rank 7 being? Even if they managed to bypass Asher’s senses, the reaction time of people on Asher’s level wasn’t something even Rank 6 beings possessed, let alone a bunch of students.
The moment both hands were about to touch Asher’s wrist, Virelass, who was floating behind him, flashed in a circular downward silver arc. The moment she did, the two students immediately felt their hands fall from their wrists. Before they could even scream in pain, Virelass flashed again, and in an instant, both students lost all four of their limbs as blood splattered into the air.
Virelass also possessed Asher’s level of perception. As a weapon linked to his very soul, how could she be any slower or weaker? Her movements were so precise and natural that they seemed less like attacks and more like a predetermined outcome.
Asher didn’t even glance at the two students. He simply walked away as he had allowed Virelass to handle it.
The two students screamed as they lost too much blood in real time. Their bodies flashed white and they vanished, leaving the remaining students to watch in awe as they stared at the floating Virelass. Fear, admiration, and disbelief mixed within their eyes as they watched the sword calmly return to its position.
They didn’t care about the two unfortunate individuals or even spare them a glance despite them losing all their limbs. They had played with fire, and they got burned. There was nothing more to it.
Watching Asher vanish, their minds and bodies burned with determination. The next moment, a fight broke out amongst the students who were gathered. With Asher, the source of the spectacle, gone, they all pounced on each other. After all, this was the best way to earn points.
Although Asher didn’t know this, many of the students present at this moment would tell their children and grandchildren that they had once met The Dominator, The Eclipser; Asher Wargrave.
