Chapter 971: New Emperor In Training [GT Ranking Bonus Chapter]
"Pppfffttt!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" Asher immediately burst out laughing, his laughter echoing throughout the room as he rolled off his bed and tumbled onto the ground, continuing to laugh without restraint.
The serious atmosphere and sudden sense of foreboding the four of them had felt vanished as they watched Asher laugh like a complete idiot.
"You should see your guys’ expressions," Asher laughed as he hoisted himself up, supporting his upper body against the bed while laughing even harder.
William couldn’t help but sigh as he spoke, "You didn’t have to take things that far. We were only joking."
Asher wiped the small tears from the corners of his eyes as he spoke, "Well, you started it first. Don’t blame me because you can’t match your own dark humour," he said, clearly pleased with the turn of events.
Vaelric shook his head as he spoke, "I guess we’ve overstayed our welcome," his tone calm as a small smile graced his lips.
But although he said that, he didn’t stand up to leave or anything of the sort.
"No need to overthink it. Personally, I’m looking forward to the battle itself. My strength has increased quite a bit, and I need some assassins as a whetstone to test my current strength," Asher stated as he rose from the floor and jumped back onto the bed with a small smile on his face.
Ryaen shook her head as she spoke, "You are the only person I know who can say something so outrageous with a straight face."
"You shouldn’t be surprised by things like this, Ryaen," Vaelric stated. "The Wargraves fight assassins for sport. The Duke himself wiped out that former Assassin Guild together with his Knights and the other Suns and Moons," he said, his brown eyes shifting towards Asher as his father had personally given him the finer details of the event.
Ryaen stayed silent for a moment. She couldn’t help but reminisce about the time she had thought of training to become stronger than Asher and challenge him again after her defeat. But after spending months with him, she had gradually come to understand the true gap between them. It wasn’t merely a difference in talent or hard work. The way Asher viewed danger itself was fundamentally different from everyone else around him. While others prepared to survive life-threatening situations, Asher actively looked forward to them, treating them as opportunities to sharpen himself.
"Well, since Asher isn’t following us, I guess I shouldn’t hide it anymore," Vaelric spoke again.
Everyone’s eyes turned towards him as they wondered what he meant by that statement.
Seeing their expressions, Vaelric explained, "Well, my grandfather, the former Emperor, Cyrvexis Lux Vanthelmor, invited me to join the family Sky Jet. And you know... I can’t decline. After all, this is my grandfather. He is a legend. I haven’t even seen the man up to five times in my entire life. Even my father, the Emperor, fears him," he stated.
Everyone was stunned. They all knew about the former Emperor, although only through stories they had read in books. After all, as nobles, keeping up with the Empire’s history was both paramount and necessary. Only families like the Wargraves hardly cared about such things.
"And before any of you ask, I don’t know why he wants to see me or what he wants to discuss. But he has already cleared it up with Principal Cindralis," he explained. "So I’ll be seeing you guys at the Star Academy three days after we return."
Everyone gazed at each other before nodding. They all jumped to the conclusion that the former Emperor simply wanted to protect his heirs with his own hands instead of entrusting the matter entirely to the Star Academy. After all, if you wanted something done properly, it was usually best to do it yourself.
"Will your twin sister, Valera, be there?" Ryaen asked calmly, as she and the royal princess were friends, having gone on numerous missions together as teammates.
Vaelric paused for a brief moment before shaking his head.
"No, she won’t. I asked her, and she said FatelessPen didn’t pass any message like that to her," he replied, his tone remaining calm.
William, Finch, Asher, and Ryaen couldn’t help but wonder if their previous assumptions had been wrong. Or perhaps they had been correct, and Valera had simply been left out by the royal family. The moment that thought surfaced, they immediately discarded it as absurd.
But unknown to Asher, William, Finch, Ryaen, and even Vaelric himself, Cyrvexis wanted to speak with him because of his friendship with Asher Wargrave.
Cyrvexis had also been present within the Thalvorn Empire. With two Wargraves participating, he had only come to see whether the Wargrave Bloodline was still as outrageous as it had been centuries ago and to witness just how effortlessly they would win yet another Inter-Empire Competition, as the Zarethorne Empire had always emerged victorious whenever a Wargrave participated.
But after discovering that his grandson had become friends with the outrageous Tenth Sun, Cyrvexis couldn’t help but become genuinely excited. This was exactly how his own friendship with the former Wargrave Primarch had begun many centuries ago.
And with that, he had already decided to train this grandson of his into the perfect Emperor. As for Zolthemir, Cyrvexis was already considering telling him to step down from the throne and instead become an adviser to the next Emperor. Of course, Cyrvexis knew he couldn’t rush such a matter. Fortunately, there was still more than enough time to properly shape and prepare his grandson for the responsibilities that awaited him.
That was the real reason he wanted Vaelric to join them while not bothering to summon Valera.
But Vaelric would only discover the truth once he boarded the Sky Jet.
Everyone eventually decided to stop thinking about the matter. This was the legendary former Emperor, after all. One could hardly predict what went on inside the mind of a man as wise and experienced as him.
The group continued chatting, discussing all sorts of topics as night completely fell over the planet. The moon climbed high into the sky while the last traces of sunlight disappeared beyond the distant horizon, bathing the vast Thalvorn Empire beneath a tranquil blanket of silver moonlight.
Ryaen, William, Finch, and Vaelric bade Asher farewell before each of them retreated to their respective rooms, as it was already late. It was already two o’clock in the morning.
Asher sat on the sofa as he gazed at the Thalvorn Empire one last time through his window. After a long moment of silently staring, he slowly shook his head before lying down comfortably and drifting off to sleep, completely unbothered by whatever tomorrow might bring.
To him, tomorrow was simply another day, another challenge, and another opportunity to move one step closer to the Crownstar Life Rank. Whatever awaited him beyond sunrise, he would face it as he always had, with certain calmness and sheer Will to survive.
