Chapter 988: Gladly [Magic Castle Bonus Chapter]

Asher stared at the sky. Truly, he was confused. He had cried, he had felt anger and pain, ready to join them in death, just to be told it was all a prank. Although nobody had explicitly told him it was a prank, to Asher, it had to be. After all, why hadn’t his family let him in on the plan?

Azaron, who was floating in the air, stared down at Asher as he spoke with an expressionless face, "It seems you still have so little faith in me, Youngest. How could I die to such a weak attack?"

Asher, hearing Azaron’s words, remained silent. He remembered Azaron telling him to believe in him. But what was he, Asher, supposed to do when he had just watched his family die, and the system had also told him it wasn’t an illusion?

Azaron simply shook his head and waved his hand. The moment he did, Asher felt space swallow him as he instantly appeared beside his siblings, who had all watched him cry over their bodies as though it were some historical drama. He wanted to say something and complain, but now wasn’t the time.

Threshold I’s eyes remained fixed on Azaron for a moment as a smile finally appeared upon her lips. She had always wanted to fight this man known as Azaron Wargrave. She was happy he hadn’t died from a single attack, happy he was alive and well, happy he had blocked her attack.

Azaron stared downward before he spoke, "so... the Convergence, huh?"

Through the soul clones diversion, Azaron could have launched a sneak attack if they had wanted to, just as the Convergence had done to the Sky Jet. But Azaron himself wasn’t a man of sneak attacks, nor was he the ambushing type. Since his son, Ezekiel, had been saved, it meant no Wargrave would be dying today. So why ambush them in the first place when they could simply enjoy the battle face-to-face?

Threshold III spoke. "How did you uncover our plan?" she asked curiously.

Before Azaron could answer, Malrik spoke.

"You planted a spy within the Wargrave family, and even within other Noble Households. While they might not have been able to retaliate, you forgot that I am Malrik Wargrave, so I simply planted a spy within your own organization."

Hearing Malrik’s words, the entire Convergence immediately narrowed their eyes in pure shock. This was impossible. At least, it was supposed to be. They were the most secretive organization in existence. How could Malrik possibly have planted a spy within their ranks?

Everyone’s eyes immediately snapped towards Threshold VI. He was the only one capable of distinguishing lies from the truth through his ability linked to deception. But seeing Threshold VI remain completely still after hearing Malrik’s words, they immediately understood the implication; Malrik was telling the truth.

But alas, Malrik was bullshitting, the man was lying.

Everything had simply aligned perfectly. His father had hidden Azazel, Solaris had provided him with information regarding the ambush as well as Ezekiel’s death, and it had appeared as though they had known about the ambush beforehand and had merely faked their deaths because they could.

So Malrik simply took advantage of the situation to plant seeds of suspicion and distrust throughout the Convergence.

As for how Threshold VI had judged Malrik’s words to be truthful when he was clearly lying... well, being blessed by the Sun didn’t grant Malrik only combat abilities. Under the blessings of the Sun, anything Malrik said became nothing but the truth. As usual, however, such an ability became useless during the night. Not that it particularly bothered Malrik, as this was basically one of the very few times he had ever needed to lie to anyone.

The air immediately became tense. A battle was about to break out.

Azaron immediately snapped his fingers as a portal leading to the Separate Dimension he had created opened. Baron Canestane, Baron Whale, Baron Rivelle, and their families could only watch with envy.

They could only hide away while the Wargraves fought. Although they had farmed a bit of aura for a brief moment as Azaron had allowed them to float high above and gaze down upon their enemies, they were now being reminded once more that they were weak.

But alas, they had already reached the limits of their talents. There was no further progress awaiting them.

Although unknown to most of the Wargraves gathered there, today they would bleed, today they would lose limbs. Those who couldn’t even remember the last time they had been pushed to their limits would finally be pushed once again.

After all, The Convergence only recruited top-tier talents and individuals with extraordinary abilities. That meant those who stood at the level of a Threshold were no ordinary Crownstar Life Rankers like the ones the Wargraves had fought until now. If they had been that weak, they would never have managed to evade the combined might of the Four Empires until this very moment when they had chosen to reveal themselves.

The next moment, Threshold I’s battle intent stirred as she stepped forward with calm, measured strides, her eyes never leaving Azaron as she spoke.

"Azaron Wargrave, I am—"

Before she could properly introduce herself, Azaron interrupted her.

"Threshold I. I already know," a smile appeared upon his face. "The last Crownstar Life Ranker I fought couldn’t even keep up, I hope you will be a little more interesting" he stated as he slowly descended, his feet touching the ground.

Threshold I came to a halt before Azaron as she spoke.

"Please... don’t insult our battle. I’ve been looking forward to this for over a century." Her smile broadened into a grin, her battle intent reaching its peak as even the air itself groaned beneath the pressure.

Azaron’s battle intent exploded from his body like a nuclear blast as the two stood facing one another, like a tiger confronting a tigress.

"Show me your resolve for Human evolution," Azaron stated.

"Gladly," Threshold I replied.

And with that, they both moved, space twisted and collapsed beneath the force of their movements.

Thus, a battle between two beings said to be equals finally began.

But could Threshold I truly match a man known as Azaron Wargrave?
