Chapter 644 Tiana’s Misunderstanding

Chapter 644 Tiana’s Misunderstanding

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Shinji and Freri’s clash had only just paused when she sensed the approaching presence of Flair and the others. The matter of the demon army was left hanging for now; the priority was to get the succubus out of sight before she was discovered.

’I’ve marked you. I’ll call you again later.’

”U-understood…”

The succubus gave one last nervous nod before gliding off at low altitude, wings brushing the treetops as she vanished into the shadows. Shinji stood still for a moment, watching her fade from sight, and then finally let out a slow breath just as three familiar figures appeared from the distant ridge—Luluane, Tiana, and Flair.

Flair looked immaculate, not a single scratch or stain on her clothes, her steps light and effortless as always. Even after fierce battles, she somehow found time to cleanse herself of blood and dirt—the natural perk of a spirit’s self-restoring magic. Luluane and Tiana had escaped major injuries as well, though spatters of dried blood still marked their clothes. They had released their <Beast Equip>, leaving only a lingering fatigue on their faces, nothing enough to stop them from fighting again if needed.

”Shinji! It’s all done-noja!” Flair called cheerfully.

”Thanks. Things went well here too—I’ve set up our next move.”

”So there’s still a role for me-noja.”

”Of course. In fact, the next part’s the big one. I’m counting on you to raise hell.”

”Just what I wanted! I’ll wipe away that shame from the valley for good-noja!”

”That wasn’t shame. That opponent was just… yeah. But if you think of it that way, I’ll let you redeem yourself.”

Flair puffed up proudly as she reported, their voices bouncing back and forth with casual ease. Luluane and Tiana, though, couldn’t get a word in—not because they were shy, but because they were both frozen, their eyes fixed on the staff in Shinji’s hand.

The Divine Staff Aria gleamed faintly in the dim light, and the power coiling around him was nothing like the sinister aura he had shown when wielding Freri’s demonic power at Canopy. This was something far purer, sharper—and the sheer weight of it made Tiana’s hands tremble against her will.

(He can handle this kind of power… and still talks about being “just doing his part”… That’s not humility, that’s unreal!)

Her soul understood the difference in their levels before her mind could. Yet she also thought of their talk last night, how he had gone out of his way to clear any lingering tension between them. Seeing him now, overwhelming and yet calm, she found the shame she’d carried about their… service… starting to fade. He wasn’t someone who would toy with anyone. He was simply strong, and kind enough to act like it meant nothing.

She turned to her side—and blinked. Luluane stood there with a look Tiana had never seen on her face before. Warm. Dreamy. Awed.

It wasn’t love. It was admiration. Luluane was staring at the image of everything she wanted to be: someone who could grow this strong yet stay humble, show respect to the goddesses, and devote herself entirely to her work without losing grace.

(So this is the strength of a true Apostle of the goddess…! One day, I want to be like him. To carry out Goddess Padra-sama’s will, and aid other goddesses as her representative…!)

(Master…! No… you’re not actually falling for Shinji-sama, are you!?)

Tiana’s stomach lurched. She knew—personally—how used to women Shinji was. The idea of Luluane being swept up, lured into his bed, and devoured in a single night flashed through her mind like a nightmare. If he were going to stay by Luluane’s side forever as her fated partner, that would be one thing. But their separation was certain. The thought of her Master’s pure heart being toyed with—

—No. She couldn’t allow it.

Of course, this was all nonsense. Luluane, for all her beauty and perfect figure, wasn’t remotely Shinji’s type. But Tiana didn’t know that. To her, Luluane was the most wonderful woman alive. She believed any man given her affection would instantly try to claim her. And so she clenched her fists.

(One night wouldn’t be enough… I have to make sure he doesn’t even have the strength to look at her…!)

Luluane finally stepped forward, her eyes soft with reverence as she went to speak with Shinji. She spoke of serious matters—the rescue party’s arrival, the return of the captured expedition, and how Captain Tect had apparently suffered such intense pleasure during his torment that it had broken his mind—but to Tiana it looked horribly like lighthearted chatter. Like flirting.

”I won’t know until I see him, but… with my magic, I might be able to help. Seal the trauma away, if nothing else.”

”You can do that too…? Shinji-san, I’m starting to think you can do anything.”

”Haha, not at all. I’m hopeless with weapons.”

”But not completely untrained, surely? I saw the way you moved. Definitely not like someone who’s let their body go just to study magic… Was that staff technique I saw?”

”Only a little. But yes. I’m still an active adventurer after all. I have to be able to protect myself at least.”

They stood maybe a little too close. Close enough that anyone watching might start to wonder if something could grow between them. They would be wrong—but Tiana didn’t know that. And so—

(This is it… I have no choice…!)

Her heart hardened with sudden resolve. She would not wait and see. She would pull out her strongest move and drag Shinji’s attention away from her Master by force.

They returned safely to their temporary base afterward. Time drifted by as Shinji worked to seal Tect’s broken memories, spoke with Luluane and the Resistance leaders, and shared a quiet meal. Eventually, night fell, and he slipped back to his own tent alone.

Once inside, he sat cross-legged in the glow of a single lamp, debating with Freri over the fate of the demon army. But it was a hollow debate—the truth had been set from the start. If he truly didn’t want them, he would have slaughtered them without question. The fact that he hadn’t meant only one thing: he intended to take them all under his banner.

Why the long debate then? Because he meant to make Freri their commander.

’We’ll make them our army, just the two of us. All right, Freri?’

’Mm. First, I’ll make them all surrender.’

’…The way this is going, you might end up scooping them all up.’

’I’ll make sure of it. Leave the planning to me.’

’Then it’s all yours, Freri…’

His voice held no heat. He couldn’t even use them properly back in his world, so his enthusiasm was low. But if Freri was having fun, well… he could live with that. He let out a soft chuckle.

”You really are passionate about this…”

Then, suddenly, he felt it—that same magic from the night before. Which meant the one about to enter his tent was Tiana.

And he was right. Sort of.

”Forgive our intrusion, Apostle-sama…”

”…Excuse us…”

Tiana stepped inside, and to Shinji’s surprise, another girl came in alongside her—a cat beastkin with braided red hair, long legs bare under a short one-piece dress that matched her sister-disciple’s. Her eyes were shy and unreadable as she stood just behind Tiana’s shoulder.

Tiona. Tiana’s younger sister-disciple. Always quiet, always standing in the back behind Luluane and Tiana. Shinji barely knew her at all. If Tiana had dragged her here, maybe he should send her back—

But then, in perfect unison, the two girls bowed deeply, lips curving in the same silky smile.

”Tonight, Apostle-sama… we wish to serve you together.”

Notes:

• Luluane – Female. An apostle of a different goddess. She has long, flowing hair and a pale complexion. She is sincere and remorseful for the accidental summoning, repeatedly apologizing and showing genuine concern. Her relationship with Shinji is initially tense but becomes more relaxed as they work together. She is also a summoner and has a close bond with her disciples, who see her as an older sister figure.

• Tiana – Female. Luluane’s first disciple. She has blue hair tied in a round bun, a petite build, and a well-defined, feminine figure. Energetic, confident, and competitive, she is quick to speak and express gratitude. Her relationship with Shinji is respectful and positive.

• Canopy – The resistance’s main command tent, first seen in Ch.640. A large pavilion used for war councils and maps, symbolizing the heart of strategy and leadership. Think: ‘war pavilion.’

• Padra – Female. A goddess. She has orange hair styled in twin tails and a petite, delicate appearance with modest chest proportions. Her personality is carefree, cheeky, and playful, often acting bratty. She manages the world where Shinji was summoned. Her power revolves around summoning magic and phantom beasts. She has a friendly but sometimes audacious relationship with Arian, often pushing boundaries.

• Resistance – A group of fighters opposing the Sect Theocracy, marked by black bands and composed of various races.

• Tiona – Female. Luluane’s second disciple. She has red braided hair and fluffy cat ears. Slender yet curvaceous, she is modest, quiet, and reserved, contrasting sharply with Tiana. Her relationship with Shinji is polite and apologetic for the rude summoning.
